Lightning Scientific Arnis is a Filipino Martial art founded by Benjamin Luna Lema in 1937. From my understanding it is more of a police style with your baton being your primary and the knife being a backup for places where patrol officers don't carry pistols regularly. A knife unless it's a bush knife such as a Bowie won't have enough mass to cut through the outside of the forearm where it's skin and bones to do serious damage, so you keep the bone side outward as a shield to your head and neck. Basically an injury to the forearm is better than one to the head and neck.
