I know, I know Entertainment over accuracy. So I try not to sound bitchy, but Bricky missed the really funny part from the scene when Russ and his Barbarians had the dinner with horus and some imperial nobles. Becaus Horus send EVERYBODY except Leman out to berate his "embaracement of a barbarian brother" but when the door closes, Leman sits upright in his chair, full etiquette, like he was raised on Terra. Picks up a fork and eats a piece of food from the plate, all propper, gives the suprised Horus a shit eating grinn and asks him in gothic "So, what you wanted to talk about?" Because he learned all this over the dinner. I love the moments when Leman shows that he is only playing the Barbarian King

Fenrisian wolves: *growling with murders intent* Vulkan: *Jamaican accent* “I would like to pet this creature.”

The single best line in Rogue Trader is you talking to a Space Wolf about how they say wolf a lot and he laughs and says "You are not wrong there. It seems like every other word out of a Fenrisian's mouth is wolf"

The point about Leman being a Knight with the outward appearance of a Savage is actually so on the bloody nose. And it's always great when he lets how smart and controlled he is shows through. Like when he was talking with Kaspar Hauser in Prospero Burns. Or even in his first conversation with Horus when there's that moment where Horus realizes that Leman's teasing him and is nothing like he's presenting as.

The eating and drinking contest between the Emperor and Russ is just the best thing ever

Russ gets an episode the week my city gets the 9th highest amount of snow recorded in its history after a snowless winter....how interesting

The theory I've heard that I like the concept of about the true nature of the Primarchs is that they're literally Greater Daemons of the Emperor bound in human bodies. Which is why Corvax becomes what he becomes spending so much time in the warp, and the great trick played on the Daemon Primarchs: Becoming a Daemon Prince doesn't actually upgrade them, it just strips off the human layers.

A quote I like about Russ is from Guilliman during the Plague Wars. He's messing with a custodes, being intentionally obtuse, and he says to the custodes: "be glad I returned instead of Leman Russ - for humor's sake, he would punch you, then scold you for not laughing."

You can also describe the Russ vs Lion dynamic as Russ being a dog and Lion is a cat.

Leman Russ is the jock in high school who was actually like a good kid, Lion is the kid everyone genuinely thought was gonna do *something* one day so everyone was kinda nice to him like out of self-preservation.

I would love a Necromunda episode sometime, I think Bricky and DK would get a kick out of all the gangs and shenanigans

Corvus corax and Leman russ had a pretty good relationship from the lore I've read. They seemed pretty close.

Actually Leman and Lorgar both head very spiritual legions and they were ultra loyal to the Emperor (pre-Monarchia). So they actually do have a lot in common. There's a hilarious moment where Magnus tells Lorgar that the only thing he and Leman both ever agreed on was that they liked Lorgar lol

Why do I get the feeling Russ is in the warp and has been turned into a MASSIVE Werewolf

One thing that I hear people don't like so much about Space Wolves lore is this idea of the "Wolf Time", I admit it sounds a bit silly out of its context, but in its original context, in the closing lines of an old norse poem describing everyone going mad and killing each other at the end of the world, it goes quite hard. "Axe-time, sword-time, brother shall not spare brother. Wind-time, wolf-time, ere the world falls."

My favorite fight between the Lion and Leman was when they got into a fist fight over a miscommunication. In the middle of the fight Leman stops because he realizes how stupid it is and busts out laughing. The Lion thinks Leman is mocking him and knocks him out cold, then storms off. This sparked a fierce rivalry between the Dark Angels and the Space Wolves, and every so often they get together to have this big knock-down, drag-out brawl in memory of their two primarchs getting in a fist fight.

49:50 + Magnus did managed to get the massage across, which is the "Horus is a traitor now.", and even If big E did not belive it it's still better safe than sorry to just say "By the way. Don't listen to Horus while you are on this mission."

56:46 So, those four challenges are taken from the tale of Utgard-Loki. Basically, Thor and Loki are traveling and come across a huge Jotun, who, after some shenanigans, invites them into his home. While there, he challenges them to a series of contests. Loki does an eating contest, Thor has to drain a drinking horn, then wrestle an old woman and, finally, pick up a cat. After he nearly, but not quite, completes each challenge, Utgard-Loki stops him and explains what has been going on. Loki's opponent in the eating context was Fire itself, and thus could not be beaten. The horn Thor drank from was connected to the seas of Midgard, and Thor drank so much it actually lowered the sea level, the old woman was Old Age itself, and cat was Jormungandr, the World Serpent. Utgard-Loki was utterly terrified that Thor managed to do as well as he did and very politely asks him to leave.

Genuinely the saddest thing I learned from this episode is the Space Wolves filling Leman's cup just in case he comes back.

36:30 on the other hand they Absolutely Nail the Dynamic of Leman and Lion and how they differ.

I now have the headcanon that Malcador was laughing his ass off while watching Emps get hammered and drunkenly knocking out his son.

The thing is Leman was an inch from killing Horus. Only hesitating when the true Horus from before the corruption returned the blink of an eye, and the chaos gods took over and empowered Horus more and Horus struck Leman. Wounding him severely, if any of the other legions accompanied him, the Heresy would have ended long before the Siege of Terra.

In Norse the are called the Norns the fates are the Greek ones also space wolves is what the imperium calls them as fenrisian is too hard to grasp same with all the wolf unit names, the call themselves Vlka Fenryka which is a cultural and poetic reference as in the sagas the closet you can get as a translation is We are the Wolves that stark the stars or more common but less poetic Wolves of Fenris. The codex is written from the imperial side but if you read the novels they use the real word more like Aett instead of the the fang or jarl instead of wolf lord. The wolves is interesting because they are so misunderstood just like the Norse mythology and the Norse people of the Viking age. Russ will hopefully come back in a Odin impersonation

Fun fact the trails that leman has to go through are based on the three trials of Utgard-loki (zero relation to the god loki) where Thor had to empty a drinking horn that was secret magical connected to the ocean making it near bottomless although Thor did lower the sea level, the next challenge was to pick up a cat that was actually a magically disguised jormungandr (Thor almost ended the world early) the final trial was to beat up an old woman who turned out to be the physical manifestation of old age.

This is probably the one episode you got the most "not quite right", in terms of some of the finer details. Still entertaining. You guys should watch WesHammers video on the 30k vs 40k space wolves.

This is one of my fave Episodes along with the inquisition as it was space wolves that got me into 40k way back in 2nd Edition

48:30 Russ wasn't like ok Horus. He thought he had found a spy with a direct link to Magnus and begged Magnus to turn himself in. Russ even laid out a plan to help Magnus stand before the Emporer and save his people. It was Magnus's lack of response then the actions of his son's that truly made the world burn. Think of it from the wolves side. They have been sent to sensor a Primark The Primark refuses to show and the entire planet is covered with something that the emperor decreed as heretical and a death sentence. That world then turned that very power against the wolves. What option do you have but to burn everything?

I celebrate everytime DK guesses correctly

Loved this episode but feel like I need to correct a very important part. When Leman faces Horus, he could have killed him, he had him laying on the ground ready after being properly stabbed, about to receive the killing blow, but Leman felt like Horus could still be redeemed after the spear showed Horus still had some humanity in him so he hesitated (Leman letting his emotions get the best of him, classic) and Horus had time to recover and win the duel. This is made perfectly clear on Wolfsbane. Only mentioned this because you portrayed it as "Horus was just glanced by the spear and then won the duel". I´m not expecting this to happen on the last book of the Horus Heresy, but I wish this encounter with Leman and the wound from the spear has some effect on how he ends up dying, maybe this wound and the magical effect of the spear makes him realize what he´s done while facing the Emperor and that helps towards obliterating him. Wishful thinking.

Don’t forget Rus tried to contact magnus to figure out what the hell was going on, but magnus was sulking in his room refusing to talk

Another thing missed was that the fight between Leman and Lion is a tradition still carried on to this day between chosen champions from both chapters. Leman and Lion are essentially that friend you have that will punch it out with you and then make amends with later. Also, Lion never stabbed Leman he just knocked him out because lion thought Leman was mocking him and not the dumb situation that they were fighting about. Either way, I loved this episode and I feel like justice was done to my boy Leman Russ. *edit* Also, the three fate weaving witches are called the Nornir.

I'm just sad that Bricky doesn't mention to the hints that Leman has the highest Primarch kill count with 2

As possibly the world's biggest Thousand Sons fan, I can safely say I came out of this with a much greater appreciation of Leman Russ

I'm one of the space wolves players who much more enjoys the viking part than the wolf part (Norse mythology was the thing that brought me to this army) and i would just LOVE for Leman to return as an elderly man with one eye and long beard, wise and silent, just like Odin returned from the well under Yggdrassil. I think it's possible seeing as space wolves in 40k are somewhat less angry and just a bit more reasonable day-to-day (still screaming going into battle tho, which is awesome). So yeah, if he returns as some kind od warp-shaped Wulfen I'd be somewhat disappointed.

For the Vylka Fenrika, May the Rott hunt the Stars for ever! I really hope that you Guys give Lucas the Trickster(Lukas der Schakalwolf in German) give in the Legion Episode Justice. This Dude really deserve some some Words for his Pranks and Shenenigangs on the Space Wolves and Enemies of the Empire. Fucker really mess up Magnus on Prospero or the Story with his 2.Heart. The two interactions of the lion and leman were definitely undersold. The first fight where leman was laughing ended with Leman getting knocked out by the lion. The second fight was after their fathers death on the golden throne within the palace and it was the fight that ended the bad blood between the legions

SInce Bricky mentioned the Emperor's spear. im expecting Russ to return missing an eye and possibly having two ravens with him to move from thor to odin a bit

Since there are no wolves on fenris and given the space wolf defect of mutation to Wolfen and that all inhabitants of fenris have the canis helix (which probably causes the mutation) I have always thought that Thunder Wolves are the wolfen mutation taken to its end point and Fenrisian Woles are the native population succumbing to the same mutation. All thanks to the Canis Helix

Leman leaving Terra to stab some sense into Horus, only to end up in a coma caused a 'ruff' time for the Loyalists during the Siege of Terra...

I hate to be the um actually guy, but dude bricky kind of messed this whole thing up. 1. Lemon Russ’s primarch book was the great wolf chronicling the duel between Russ and the Lion. Also it gives some insight to how they handled the second founding 2. The wolf didn’t walk away from the duel. The lion knocked the living shit out of him as he was laughing on the floor 3. You really undersold spring time on fenris. It’s more the movie 2012 with the Himalayan mountains getting falling into the ocean.

Fun Fact: Freki & Geri's names are indeed from Norse mythology; they are the names of Allfather Odin's pet wolves (most folk know about Odin's ravens, but not many know he also had a pair of wolves). Ironically, Odin is prophesied to be killed & eaten by the giant monster wolf Fenrir/Fenris during Ragnarok. Additionally, the three trials of the Erlking (German for "Elf King", BTW) that Leman Russ failed at were indeed based on a trio of challenges that Thor failed at while visiting the castle of the Jötunn King Utgard Loki (not to be confused with the trickster god Loki Laufeyson, who also accompanied Thor on this trip and failed his own challenge). First, a great drinking horn that Thor failed to empty even with three tries that was actually connected to the ocean (but Thor drank so much that he ended up causing the tides). Second was wrestling an old woman who was actually the embodiment of Old Age (though Thor was only forced to one knee in this fight), and the third challenge was to lift a cat off the ground which was actually Jormungandr the World Serpent (though Thor managed to get one foot of the cat off the ground, which nearly destabilized the world). So yeah, Thor is actually scarily strong and was immediately banned from ever returning to Utgard. Also, the proper name for the Fates of Norse mythology are the Norns. They don't really do a weaving thing, that's strictly a thing of the Greek Fates.

Oh man I’m so happy this has finally happened! 👌🏻 Also after Russ started laughing at the situation Lion knocked him out clean but still kept the Wulfen curse a secret, he missed his organs on purpose after the seige of Terra and became to like eachother more, Russ talks to his sons after the break of the legions and tells him about their rivalry and how much he respects him and I believe Russ was winning the fight with Horus to the point he had a killing blow but the spear brought the actual Horus back for a bit and he couldn’t do it which is why it went to shit. Could be wrong on some of this but I know you couldn’t explain EVERYTHING in one video. Looking forward to the wolves next week 👌🏻 make sure you mention how Arjac became a champion

The three challenges Russ did in his vision on Fenris are a "subtle" nod to a myth where Loki, Thor and his servant Thjalfi had to complete challenges made by a giant Utgard-Loki Thor failed all his challenges, because all 3 were illusions. He had to empty a horn of water in 2 gulps (Which was filled with the ocean, so Thor drained enough to cause the tides) Overpower a frail nursemaid (Which was actually a personification of old age, weakening anyone she touched) And lift a giant cat (Which was actually Jörmungandr, so Thor shifted the Earth itself)

Horus meeting Leman for the first time is one of my favorite things in warhammer, not only because of what they talked about here but when Horus called the fenrisians primitives Big E's immediate response was basically "Oh yes because the people of Cthonia are so advanced." Also Leman challenges Horus to a wrestling match within like 5 minutes of meeting him its great.

In regards to prospero, dont forget: fenrisians HATE psychic stuff, extreamly so. The rune priests are only ok cause they use "fenris magic" and distinctly say anythibg else is tantamount to death. Then lets temember just how much a sorcerer magnus was, and how powers were in so much use, telepathy was used for as mundane as waitstaff. Itd be like early christian quakers and 90s goth punks being told to get along. Also yes, shaping up for leman to be odin. Guesses were corax(already in the warp) can help him out, so odins ravens. Probaly miss an eye, not only for "punished russ" but also is a neat parallel with magnus.

While a good episode I feel Bricky left out or forgot two very disntinct parts about Russ. First, the entite reasone he is called the Emperors Executioner in the first place. Second Leman's dislike and distrust of psykers and his role at the Counsil of Nikaea against Magnus.

I'm sure this will be a purely factual, unbiased take. I'm excited!
