I got a Mac mini 2012 full specs few months ago, It’s doing great for my music production .. cant wait to get the new ones but after my iMac 2015 stop getting updates
One tip : Make sure you get 16GB of RAM, you may think you don't need it now but you will need it later. It's also easier to sell it in the future to fund your next Mac.
Don’t listen to this tip, 8gb goes a very long way in the MAC realm and resell value wouldnt mean anything when every generation is improving quickly. 16gb is really needed when your an insane editor with a whole of apps opened at once. This future proof gimmick is nonsense.
@@mza2001 8GB of RAM does go a very long way, which is true. Extra 8GB of RAM is not going to make your Mac Mini suitable for an insane editor. "Resell value " only mean something when someone need the budget and can actually sell what they are selling.
I’d say don’t buy a mac mini at all, the things a giant waste of money. That thing costs more than my pc yet my pc can destroy the M2 ultra, and I don’t have to get a new computer to upgrade… anything that costs more than a $1000 from apple is a waste of money, they don’t build their computers like they used to
I bought the base model M2 mini and it’s great. Everyone is saying to upgrade it, but if you’re just doing everyday thing with it it’s fine. And if it sucks in 2-3 years just get the newest entry level mac. Price is right where you can just keep upgrading every few years instead of dumping a ton of money now and having something obsolete in a few years. You only need to upgrade if you’re doing crazy amounts of video or photo editing or massive high speed transfers. For the normal person, the base model is fine.
This is all relative as you could say this for any Mac configuration. But in my experience the best strategy is get a Mac that meets your needs today and will still be competitively powerful in 5-8 years so you get maximum value out of your purchase. You’ll save way more money long term this way as these Mac updates and apps are getting way more power hungry every year. I’m still using my 2015 5K iMac and 2017 MacBook Pro which I maxed out to the highest configuration and they still outperform these base M1/M2/M3 Macs not only in the Core i7 processing power but they have 4GB discrete GPUs which Mac Silicon doesn’t have. Plus they’re both running MacOS Sonoma using OCLP and the iMac has the best 5K display that Apple sells and you can install a custom chip into it to use it as a standalone monitor. Now I’ll get the Mac Studio once it gets the M3 chip and continue using my iMac 5K display with it. So I’ve gotten 8 years out of my purchase and I’m also saving a fortune not having to buy a new monitor.
Atleast they should provide and m.2 slot for storage upgrade. They are charging $250 from 256gb to 512gb upgrade and it's not even fast, I can get 1tb gen4 SSD for $85 that is 4x faster.
Does look good tbh but if I’m gonna buy a Mac mini it’s gonna be a mid 2010 model with 16GB ram and 512gb ssd as it’s enough for me as I don’t game (outside of some occasional terraria or Minecraft) and I’m not gonna use it as my main computer. It also has the cd/DVD drive, which I like, and it’s not expensive (I found one for €110🗿)
Great tips I’m on an old iMac 2012 on catalina. Planning to get a new one soon. Waiting to see what comes out in May & June. Was looking at iMac M3 with 24 GB memory 1 TB storage or Mac Studio M2 Max w/ 32 GB memory 1TB storage (hear new one is coming) with Studio Display. Now wondering if the mini is a better option.
3 Reasons why you should build for the same price a proper Gaming Computer: 1. Proper Airflow and no overheating 2. High end, Top of the line components 3. Easily repairable (Bonus) Can run Games properly
For those with an Iphone, in front-end website development, or video/photo editing industry it makes the most sense for a home setup. This assumes you don't travel much.
Hey! I'm a frontend dev and I was wondering how this mac mini performs under a pressure? If I open like 10 tabs and open a heavy react.js project what happens?
@@melihtopal9188 It should be fine if you have 16GB of RAM or more. Don't do professional work with other apps/browser tabs open with less than 16GB of RAM.
You can but you have to do a weird workaround. Bc for sidecar, the ipad is treated as a 2nd display. Which means you need a first display before connecting to the ipad. Some people do this, then make a keyboard shortcut that automatically sets up sidecar for the 2nd time.
@@yephindiangamersm if you are referring to blender for 3d software probably not. I would suggest going with 16gb of ram even with this it will still struggle depending how much resolution and effects you are trying to create. Just take my opinion a grain of salt.
If I have a 24 “ full hd monitor should I buy Mac mini or MacBook Air.? I will use either with external monitor only and I only browse Internet and watch videos. I can get both with comparable prices and configurations in seconds market. Please advise
Im gonna buy the m2 pro because i live in poland and the price of it in poland is 5899 pln whih is about 1450 dollars but on german amazon the m2 pro costs the same price
The comments are confusing me about what’s best.. do I want 8 or 16gb? Do I need the m2 or is m1 okay? I want to be able to edit long and short form videos ❤ feel free to help me if you see this 😅
Is it good for 3d and most design programs? Any suggestion for screens that is good with the mac mini? I'm still researching, currently using a macbook pro and looking to upgrade my work setup. Thanks in advance!
does it have virtual ram? if yes does that mean 8gbram 512gb ssd would run god of war, spiderman, and call of duty atleast high settings and over 60fps?
can mac mini m2 base model output a 4K 120Hz via the TB4/USB4 port? i have DP to USBC cable together with dell G3223Q 4k 144Hz 32" monitor or i should get 16GB/512GB SSD version?
Hey guys, what do you think is better M1 8/512gb or M2 8/256gb? I want to use it for video editing and besides that, I also wanted to play league, so which one of these will have more FPS?
the thing i dont get is why you wouldnt just get a macbook pro, and then get a monitor. Im not sure in the comparison in price but then you can bring your laptop anywhere and use it on the go.
I have m1 mini, and its so slow when making music...try to record your screen when in session and its impossible.. forget about streaming...I bought it cause of missleading videos like this one.
Warning: you can't use Mac for any gaming at all.. it's not worth trying when almost every game you can't download or if you can Mac has annoying features you can't turn off like shift + scroll for horizontal scroll
I'm doing some research on this now but I can use this with any monitor right?? I don't have to have an apple one (idk nothing about technology so be easy on me lol)
