I lived here for a few years and can say Lemmy was a great guy and neighbor. Used to run into him from time to time in the building. Everyone looked out for each other here. A legend and humble guy.
I was about to take a gig in West Hollywood back in the early 2000’s and actually almost rented a unit in that building fuck that would have been amazing.
@@Finallybianca ah that would have been cool! it was a really tight knit group of neighbors when I was there. We looked out for each other. It is definitely a time I will always cherish!
My mate's brother was living in the next block back in 91. We all came over from London that year and stayed in LA for a few weeks. Caught sight of Lemmy one day at the poolside but never actually got the chance to meet him then. But my mate's bro and his girl bumped into Lemmy that Xmas eve, asked him what he was doing next day, he said "nothing special" so they asked him over for xmas dinner and sure enough he came round and was there all day, chatting, drinking, smoking and telling stories. He really appreciated the company on the day.
@@fernandolazzari4536 if it is a lie, it ain't my lie. I wonder what would make a person think that an ordinary human story was a lie. Lemmy was a pretty amiable and approachable guy. I met him in one of my local pubs about 20 years ago.
BTW, here in England , its common to have a pub close to houses. A small village can have 2 or 3 pubs. People would (and still do ) go to their local pub and walk back home, lemmy probably wanted the same experience there in LA. Thanks for the insight 👍
@@CaptainBorax Thats how it was here in germany too especially in the towns with coal mines and steel mills. My Grandpa could tell you the way by the name of pubs and where to go from there.
Lemmy was my old neighbor, I even got his mail by mistake once. Used to run into him all the time and when he wasn’t touring he was usually at the end of the outside bar at The Rainbow having a jack and coke and playing the poker machine. The place you originally thought was Lemmy’s place on Hammond Street was his very good friend Scotty‘s place, and he used the address for official mail and stuff since he was often on the road, that way Scotty could let him know if anything important had arrived
Hey Scotty Here, Lenny's condo was actually the 1st building on the left that you mentioned you were correct that was the condo that he He bought in 2012 and totally remodel it to his liking. My apartment was actually right next door. And I was his best friend on the planet. I actually would stay at his apartment at harrett towers when he was on tour and I would take care of his plants that's eat his Omaha Steaks. And drink is whiskey. And it was all perfectly fine with him. I actually built a train a train set on his coffee table for Christmas one year. But thanks for mentioning me I appreciate it.
My buddy used to live in that same complex as Lemmy for about 3 or 4 years and said he would periodically see him out at the pool once in a while wearing a speedo....lol.
I use to Drink Whiskey with him at the Rainbow back in 1995 and play ms packman with him/ one time he looked at me and said " you look like your looking for some Advice" .....I gave him that look like Hell yeah...and he said " Always Expect the UnExpected"....I looked him back dead in the eyes..and said ..." Life is about SCRAFICE" he reached over the packman table and shock my hand.....couple months later the album and song Scrafice came out...have no ideal if my words had anything to do with it...but He was as Solid Thinker and Speaker of the TRUTH that still resonates thru my Soul !
Enjoyed the vid. All three of the classic lineup were very interesting people. Fast Eddie seemed very affable. Also, Phil Taylor was taught drums in his youth by an old soldier who was a drummer in the First World War!
It's the perfect spot I'd live there for years myself I went to the rainbow back in the day didn't know he lived so close I knew he was a fixture there but I missed my chance to stay in California and meet him but none the less very cool to see his spot in person years ago Salute to Lemmy ! You are still very loved sir you will never be forgotten 😎
I used to work in the music industry in Hollywood and I working with mostly metal people and most of them had small really apartments cause they are never home, they where always touring and also didn't have kids or other obligations that required that have a bigger home. I'm still in Hollywood and on occasion I get pulled in to a music gig but now its mostly rappers and hip hop and weirdly, they all have huge houses and are home most of the time.... top names on both genres btw, I'm not gonna say who cause not my place to share info that they might consider private. R.I.P. Lemmy! We miss you!
That's an interesting comment in context lol. I think you're probably right I can remember back in the old days of Hollywood that was kind of a lifestyle nobody gave a shit about having a big house, it was just about partying and playin. I remember going down there around 89 and hanging out out on sunset and it was nothing but guys walking around with guitars coming from GIT or MIT. Doesn't look like that anymore it was a little scuzzier back then too I loved it. That's cool I bet you've seen a lot of crazy stuff over the years!
@@CaptainBorax I remember visiting Sunset Blvd when I was on vacation with parents in the U.S. in 1988 as a 15 years old -- and yes, it was as you said: nothing but guys walking around with guitars, each of them sporting a black band shirt and tight jeans. I was so impressed!
Ive been in it,maybe it was because i was a secret 1985 rock wife of Sebastian Bach@Skid Row.Lemmy had unusual antique connections. He was intelligent.I knew his girlfriend Octavia. Morticia Lavina.
@@madarab37 I cant say for all the other rockwives but they do have to share with groupies! When i married Sebastian it was a long while ago in 1985,i was a trained ballerina.I also sang goth vocals+metal screams on Bauhaus+later Gunsnroses.Sebastian ordered i leave his industry as he was jelous.I was a legal wife but i didnt want to be photographed in magazines w Sebatian. Now i regret this.He also more recently asked me to be included in his semi ficticious memoirs but i declined, now i also regret this.Skid row hadnt yet made a hit and i thought if they all knew their lead vocalist was full on married then maybe the band wouldnt be so popular as Sebastian was a sexgod sale type.I also was pretty-sleazy ballerina type. Then Sebastian was jelous of my little sons and he violently hit them in their beautiful faces so i lef Sebastian and managers brought in known Maria who was really the managers daliance.Maria was mantough and hit me when i was in our New Jersey home, then Maria flew to Wales and payed girls to traffik my sons and hurt them.My gosh our lives were ruined.Still today the peer musicians and managers control their artist sending them to whomever you know to ruin our lives.I let Maria or Suzzane in photos. It was before internet but Sebastian+i were together mostly always but then i couldnt forgive him for hurting with such force my children. So i never returned to Sebastian who followed me robbing my next love from Italy.x Lavina Morticia.x
@@morticialilas3229 omg thank you for the response! I love bauhaus, what songs did you sing on? I saw you were in the Gene Loves Jezebel Bruises video but I couldnt figure out what band you were in when you and Sebastian met at Niagara Falls and quickly got married. I dont know how much of that is true but thats what ive read so far.
Cpt. Borax, I believe he initially lived in the apartment shown, but then he bought a condo down the street in 2013/14. I think the address was 1010 Hammond. Also, he had a son, named Paul-also a musician. And he inherited Lem’s entire estate, I believe.
That is what I heard to, and probably where the confusion was. I read around 2014 he moved in with his gf and her dogs.Might have been from Paul at Lems funeral
I was a bit of a regular at the Rainbow in the late 80s and early 90s. Lemme was always at the bar playing a video game. He was a super down to earth guy.
Lemmy is a King and he will inspire generations to come. But your video and rather your voice has a color of irony about it. There is still a long way to go to learn to play rock like Lemmy in LA.
You could throw a rock from Lemmys pad towards the Bow and it would come close to hitting it's so close to his apartment lol. I hate that I never met the guy he was a good dude
Awesome 👍 TY friend I 5TATS OF LEMMY KILMISTER 3OF HIM SNAGGLETOOTH UNDER MY NECK MOTORHEAD NAME ON RIGHT SIDE OF MY FOREARM REST IN POWER LEMMY KILMISTER
To be honest I think I own his apartment on gta 5 and I didn’t know it 😮 no lie I still have it on my game I’m not sure I think if not it’s right across it. And yeah I can’t imagine how much it cost now cause a 2 bedroom house or apartment even where I am at lowest is $1,000 I think.
For a long time through the 80s and 90s Motorhead weren't really making monster money, they were a midlevel band success wise. But I think the last 15 years or so from 2000- til his death, they were killin it, playing everywhere, loads of gigs. I dont think Motorhead were ever big record sellers compared to many other heavy groups. But I believe I read that at death, he was worth about 12 mill all in .
Metal was always a fringe group. There was no comparison to the earnings of Michael Jackson, Madonna et al and the musicians in rock bands.. maybe the only exception was Metallica and probably Sabbath.
This is the rnr life I wanna live but in a rv instead a house or condo or apartment cause I love to travel but I also love to make music right now I’m struggling with 2 things ? Getting my family’s support and my left hand to cooperate .
Yeah no family, touring a lot of the year , rent controlled. He also drank heavily towards the end of his life and faced with sobering up to live longer he chose not to. Luckily his immune system kicked in and kept him alive for another couple of of years!
What an awful place to live. I really don't understand why people would want to live in the US. A country with nothing to see. Long live Europe and its history!
