@@explosiveeg9718 Um I'm pretty sure there is some supernatural force keeping him alive so you definitely don't need a body if theres something supernatural going on.
The first couple of times I listened to it I thought it was some kind of sentient robot (half human, half machine; organs inside; eating a maintenance man) obviously I wasn’t paying too close attention to the lyrics lol
Well, I remember that the song is based off of the infamous arcade cabinet Polybius, a mythical cabinet made by the U.S. government as an experiment that caused health problems to those who played it. The story was (most likely) a hoax, yet the details were not too wrong. The FBI did service arcade machines to break gambling rings, and two kids who played at the same arcade fell under terrible conditions, one of the two dying on someone's lawn.
I think my favorite thing about Cabinet Man fan videos is what happens during the last chorus. It's a split between he dies and the chorus is in remembrance of him or it's his last chorus as he takes the vandal or vandals down with him
I feel like if it ended on the sneakers line, it would be the former, but repeating the chorus after that definitely implies murder, especially with how hard it goes.
I started typing the first two lines and then I got sucked in. I was not traumatized. However, I recorded my thoughts live. Here is what I typed: Oh no. Yeah I’m not gonna finish this. It’s 1am. Oh gosh. Oh no. I’m typing this live. I’ve been sucked in. Ok maybe I should stop. Nahhhh. Oh a vandal Oh this is gonna scar me for life Oh no OOOOOOH ITS HAPPENING HE APPEARED AAAA ok this is amazing.
Fun fact: Neil’s sister, Emmy cicierega, is credited to have worked on gravity falls episode Soos and the Real Girl about a sentient virtual being that kills. Neil made the early gravity falls intro and a song about a sentient arcade cabinet (also a gravity falls episode) so this is either proof holism exists or Disney is full of nepotism
quick thought i had: the quarter trick at 2:20 made me think of how that would feel but then i realized it would really be the same thing as using bait on a hook to catch a fish. just a weird thought.
well if you think about it, he mentions his breath being the quarters in his lungs. think of it as telling your friend to breathe in the fresh air and then treating them to a roundhouse kick to the chest where it pushes the air out of your lungs
2:20 this scene reminds me of a scene in the computer Fighters where a guy sticks a quarter on a string into arcade machine and it jams and then he goes oh no not again and then he shows his hand and it's missing like three fingers
Cabinet Man as a song is actually very interesting- the song is literally about a man who puts his organs into an arcade machine, but when you think about it metaphorically, it’s about celebrities that make themselves into simply content. They go so far to be popular that they’ve turned themselves into a product, and then they get outdated (hence the arcade machine, since arcade machines are rarely used now). They rely on money and appreciation to live (like Neil saying ‘two lungs collecting change’, then he says ‘it’s getting hard to breathe’ right after he says ‘it’s getting lonely’, suggesting that he lives on people’s attention and money). Also, he complains about the people bashing the arcade machine, but the thing is they don’t actually know the arcade machine is a person- they think it’s just a product, which represents antis of celebrities who don’t actually see said celebrities as people. Also, when he says ‘this must be what love would have felt like’, it represents the parasocial love he gets from people- they love him but without thinking of him as a person.
@@RyderHuckFilms who said people who stop at animatics say theyre the "best animators" like bro they never said that. And they dont even like that. I dont get your point.
THIS IS INTENSELY AWESOME !! really pretty colors that elevate the mood and so many clever details (i never connected the "getting hard to breathe" line with his lungs running out of quarters, for instance - that's so cool!!) LOVE THIS!!
the colours, the clean lines, the art style, the timing. this is an absolute work of art especially paired with an equally underrated and brilliant song writer niel cicierega. thank you for bringing this song to life,
I could see it being based on both. IDK if what it is solely based on has been confirmed, but both the Bezerk case and the polybius legend can be thought of in this song.
I.... my brain literally was so confused at the beginning bc I tried to actually "press play" even the video was already playing lol. Fantastic job mate 👌
when i first heard it i thought it was a weird love song like "i wont hurt you unless you cheat" like in a relationship and i thought the "box for safe keeping" and "box inside your hands" was the same, and it was like a gift. Also like "you cant see me behind the screen" i thought he was a cyberbully- Yeah no then i went to genius and..
I think if there was a movie of the entire album animated in this art-style would be amazing. The animation just looks like the feeling you got from listening to the album.
A movie like goosebumps, but with lemon demon soundtrack and characters. At one point they meet the aftermath of the cabinet man arcade since it's set in modern day.
I love how at 3:17 it seems like the robber broke into the machine and is taking the quarters but also that the cabinet man is bleeding coins. Like he still has the concept of blood but he’s so fused with the machine the only thing that comes out is coins. Beautifully done.
Didn't find the lyrics guy yet, so gotta improvise: The day they found me, I hadn't yet been played Inside my workshop behind the old arcade Electric desires had unraveled all my wires Now I'm in the box for safekeeping The news reporters reported that I died But all my organs were living on inside Circuit board to brain with two lungs collecting change One big human heart gently beeping You can't win me, I can't be beat I won't hurt you unless you cheat You can't see me behind the screen I'm half human and half machine Thank God for business, they let me take the floor I stood so proudly, like I was going to war Players soon appeared and I quickly was revered This must be what love would have felt like Such dedication, they came from miles away With eyes so piercing, they'd wait their turn to play In perfect patient lines because I was in their minds I could do whatever I felt like (Whatever I felt like) You can't win me, I can't be beat I won't hurt you unless you cheat You can't see me behind the screen I'm half human and half machine I'm happy for years and years And only eating the occasional maintenance man Only driving a few kids to madness Maybe they were predisposed to madness, who knows? I only want to have fun But now they're telling me my days here are done 'Cause there's a little tiny box they make in Japan And pretty soon it's gonna fit in your hand It's getting lonely, it's getting hard to breathe The arcade's empty, I think it's Christmas Eve Someone's broken in, now they're painting on my skin Breaking me and taking my quarters Bashing in my face with a crowbar Kicking me and pushing me over Now they see my blood on their sneakers You can't win me, I can't be beat I won't hurt you unless you cheat You can't see me behind the screen I'm half human and half machine
This looks like something out of an animated tv show, how did you make something so good?!!!!??!!!??! You should totally be an animator, your talents are amazing!! Edit: it would be a crime for me but to sub to you because this is soooo gooood omg!
No it doesn't,,, the animation isnt fluid or smooth enough,,,, Its mostly static shots with zooms and ?pans? To keep it interesting,,, Even anime doesn't have that much static shots the art is pretty but not the animation-

I don’t think I ever realized it was getting hard for him to breathe because the change was like air. This is a perfect visual representation of of the vibe or the song + the lyrics
Wow, turns out this song was way darker than i thought. Every time I listened, I couldn't make sense of the lyrics, until the listen just before this one, when i realized how much of a creepypasta it is.
I don't know what kind of vibes this animation emanates, but I like them. It's sorta like Adventure Time or Bee and Puppycat but like with an 80's aesthetic I just live it 9/10 for nostalgia.
My Cabinet Man headcanon was that he's a missing kid who was shoved inside an Arcade machine by some serial killer, and he's still missing and is speculated to be dead :>
