A great cover of this song. It blends different styles: the serious Red Army Choir alongside the zany Leningrad Cowboys, the cuts to the Russian National Anthem and Handel's Messiah interspersed with the upbeat American R&R. The song is an unusual mix of elements but it fits together beautifully. It just make you want to smile and I can't stop watching it.
Never mind the Balalaikas! Every other contender for 'best cover version ever' is cowering in the corner, sucking their thumbs and whimpering. This made me buy the DVD of the whole concert. A good purchase.
OMG ! I just realized that the man in the choir the film focused on was Whistling! I had heard the whistling before but this time I put the two together :)
The Rurikovich dynasty that ruled the pricipalities of Kiev and Novgorod was founded by Vikings, namely one called Rurik, a Rus. And the Rus people are by most historians considered to be from somware in present day Sweden. Of course, the Vinkings were only the ruling elite, and it only took a few generations for them to be assimilated into the slavic population and loose all of their scandinavian heritage.
Great, Great, Great Song~!~! The tractors displayed are reminders of Stalin's Mass-Murder of The Ukrainian People in 1938, 7 to 14 million, as there were so many murdered Ukrainians laying about that no one could count them~! Mainly farmers, as Stalin wanted to control Ukrainian farming~!
