Naturally I'm aware of Buckner's historic error because it's baseball history that I witnessed, and because I'm a Mets fan. But I'll always remember Buckner as the great ballplayer he was. He had a long and productive career, and it's a shame that people choose to define him by that one moment. Buckner was an excellent ballplayer. That's what he should be remembered for. What a tragedy it would be if each of us was remembered solely by one single incident out of our entire lives. What about all the good things we might have accomplished? Nobody wants to be defined by a moment that was their lowest point. But that's what people are doing to this man. Think about that. So the next time you think about Bill Buckner, naturally the error will be in the back of your mind, but then remind yourself that he was an excellent ballplayer.

Yes,just like Ernest Byner's fumble, and Jim Marshall's wrong way run. They should not be remembered for one bad play but for great careers. They should all be Hall of Famers.

Buckner was a .289 career hitter. I'd take him on my team in his prime any day of the week.

All of you nerds that are correcting the batting average stuff, Lenny doesn't have a computer in front of him like u. He's just trying to say he was a good player that got remembered for something other than being a good player. You young people can't see the forest for the damn trees

Its like Lenny said in another interview about this. Bill was not known for his defense and in any other game he probably would have been taken out of the game for somebody who could play defense better. But it was a game winning WS for the Sox and Buckner did his time and the manager kept him in so he can celebrate the win from the field. It was the wild pitch that screwed that game up. Mookie would have made that a close race if Bill correctly handled the ball and I am sure going thru Buckner's mind was Mookies speed and rushed the play.

Sad that the worst things in sports are always remembered 1st. Bill was a GREAT player overall. Lenny is 100% correct.

Buckner had more career hits than Babe Ruth and Ted Williams

Buckner - you could strike him out and couldn't walk him. Nolan Ryan couldn't throw a fastball by him. Just a tough out and a clutch hitter.

Bill Buckner was a .289 career hitter. I think Dykstra was confusing his career OBP of .321 with his Batting Average.

Still a 20 season .289 is GREAT. To hit nearly 3 outta 10 at bats consistently EVERY season is not as easy as it looks.

The game was tied when Buckner’s error occurred.

Buckner wasn't at fault for losing the game and the series.

Jared knows what's up. The damage was already done by a couple pitchers and a crossed up sign where Mookie did some ballerina move to get out of the way.

Calvin Schiraldi and Bob Stanley blew that World Series. It never should have even reached the point where Buckner could have made an error in that situation. On top of that there was another game to play after the error in which the Red Sox had a lead, and in comes Schiraldi to blow the game again!!!

Bill Buckner was a .289 hitter, not .320 as Dykstra states.

Kevin Bryant sounds like a guy that never made it as far as he should have and takes his anger out on the MLB players that did.

For Lenny 1 year is like 20 in his life. Look at the guy. Regardless, he's giving an interview and rattling a stat off the top of his head and not on his couch googling Bill Buckner.
