You should always make sure the compensator your going to ru will run with the one sping and 115 grain ball ammo. That way if you switch things up you know it can handle it. Going to a lighter spring may cause issues if you can’t run a normal Glock polymer guide rod. Speaking from experience here.

Yes, Lenny. Here in Alaska 10mm is the Alaskan round. At least in our opinion. I carry 9mm for self defense in the summer months for in town/city and 45/10mm for winter months. 45 for in town/city during the winter and 10mm year round for any outdoor stuff. Cutting/hauling trees, camping, fishing, hunting, 4 wheeling/snow mobile. I use the tung in all of my carry Glocks because it does help the felt recoil, muzzle lift/flip znd stay on target. It makes shooting hot loads of 10mm very nice. G19 gen4, G17 gen3/4, G20 gen4, G21 gen3/4, G30S gen3.

I got a Glock 17 Gen 5 last fall. The only upgrade has been getting a tungsten guide rod. The G17 is an awesome gun to begin with but the new rod makes it amazing! My shot grouping went from 2.5"-3" at 10 yards down to consistently 1.5"-2", even with bulk RN ammo! Unfortunately, tungsten rods aren't allowed in stock Glock comps so I do have to train with the original rod. But I am noticing there has been consistent improvement in that training too. I don't know if it's the placebo effect but my shooting hand doesn't seem to fatigue as much with the tungsten rod. 9mm doesn't have much recoil but I notice the difference when I change back to the plastic rod. I can do 500+ rounds with the tungsten rod but I start feeling it around 350 rounds or so with the original rod. Great product!

@@hardybirch3630 , physics provides us the ability to calculate the mitigation using real numbers. Newton's laws are sufficient -- it does not require solving partial differential equations. Have you run the numbers, Hardy?
@LAIRDO-
@LAIRDO- 4 года назад
Replacement Tungsten or even steel/stainless guide rods will more often than not make your pistol short cycle, thus resulting in FTE and jamming. This is because these guide rods are heavier and have more tension than the stock ones. Less recoil? Probably, maybe. But, do you want your firearm to function properly? YES!! I've learned the hard way. Stick with OEM guide rods. If you own and/or carry a Glock, they've already taken enough of your money.

I would like to know as well because I’m using a 15lbs guide rod for my P80 G19 and for some reason it doesn’t cycle full sometimes. For example if I’m racking the slide pointing downward it will get stuck but doing the same thing point up it cycles with no issues. What I notice is when it doesn’t cycle and the slide gets stuck I notice that the barrel not only moves freely than normal and the barrel appears to more forward as well which can explain it causing the slide to lock when pointing downward compare upwards. Now this is an example, issue is occurring when shooting down range at times. *Note my setup is a G19 slide w/ ported barrel and P80 lower.

Try feeding a 15 or 18 lb. spring onto an Uncaptured Guide Rod without the rounded hood device Lenny has on the end of his gun and it is near impossible. The spring buckles way before it can be compressed and placed. His rounded piece below the barrel prevents that. Using stock 40 Calibre Glock 23 Gen 5 firearm.

I doubt the flexibility of the original, plastic (?) guide rod is the explaining factor behind possible limp-wristing. The extra ca 35 grams of rigid tungsten leverage does not much to prevent possible limp-wristing if the grip is loose or weak. But by opting for the tungsten rod, you're already qualified as a near gun nut - which itself infers you're up for grabs, aware and ready.
@v.german11b
@v.german11b 3 года назад
Outstanding! 👏🏼 Stainless steel and tungsten vs polymer it is a no brainer. If you are happy with your polymer spring guide rod, stay happy. If not, change the recoil spring guide rod assembly for a stronger, more durable, metal one, which will add weight for the gun to stay flatter on target when firing. It will also give you confidence in reliability, due to the integrity of the material. Some people get stuck in the "old school" mentality and never evolve from it.

Finally received mine for my g19 gen 4 after 2 weeks of waiting. I usually use hot ammo at least +p and my carry ammo is +p+ - I will say that there is definitely a noticeable difference in muzzle flip and recoil reduction especially in follow up shots but if I’m shooting softer ammo like subsonic 147 grain the difference is negligible. I do believe that my accuracy has improved but that could very well be in my head and not due to the guide rod but there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that +p+ ammo feels much much softer now

Recently picked up a Gen 5 Glock 26. Feels like it take a Mack Truck to rack that slide - it's super heavy. So replacing it with a lighter recoil spring makes sense for me. My question is, is there any real reason not to? I understand with 'hot' ammo I'd run a risk, but almost everything I run through my guns is just standard ammo you'd get from any store. Appreciate any feedback.

the information is truly interesting. I just bought the 26 Gen5. So the question: is, is it best to swap out the original guide rod spring? I ask this question because (hey Lenny !) I don't want to entertain the thought of a plastic guide spring breaking on my watch...Finally, you don't recommend a swap for my pistol. Why is that?

@ That's actually what makes the glock more reliable too is the fact that the frame and everything like the guide rod is able to flex together.. It's also why it can take a steady diet of +p ammo.. Always start seeing peoples glocks malfunction more as they start putting in all these upgrades.

@@muddyhotdog4103 Factory Glocks are built like AK 47's. They're loose. The barrel chamber is loose, so bad that spent brass has to be resized completely before reloading. But, yes, they're built for war. They'll run dirty, choke any ammo, and never fail. Once you start tightening them up with match barrels, guide rods, etc. You might start seeing your gun getting more accurate, but more finicky for sure.

Hmmm. I just bought my first firearm Glock 17 about a week ago, I was nervous as shit my first 10 bullets at the range but as the the next clips went in my groups got tighter got the jitters of holding a deadly weapon out of my system. My second time at the range I didn’t really get to practice, let my wife shoot more, got maybe 2 clips in and my shots were decent, my third time out and 300 rounds in I’m shooting near perfect every shot at 25 yards, my wife was trippin. No upgrades at all on the gun. Should I really mess with a guide rod? I’m afraid it’ll throw my shot off.

Stock plastic guide rods are cheap, they break, and flex too much for any real accuracy. I changed the stock guide rod to a tungsten guide rod, which is over two ounces in weight. My accuracy greatly improved immediately. I would recommend. And yes, I have seen super slow film showing the gun flexing with the stock guide rod. For Glock, it’s about reducing prices, thus using cheaper parts, like those ugly plastic sights!

@muddyhotdog4103

They flex too much for accuracy lol? Makes it more reliable if anything, by giving some flex.. Otherwise it's a low pressure bearing part, all the action goes on the spring itself.. Rarely ever see the actual rod break; normally the spring itself breaks or wears out.. For any real use, I wouldn't change the stock RSA..

I’m having an issue with my setup I’m using a 15lbs guide rod for my P80 G19 and for some reason it doesn’t cycle full sometimes.

I love how one of the main selling points of a Glock is that it is a polymer system to reduce weight, then everyone wants to wants to add all of these heavy third party “fixes”!😂😂😂 Glock Perfection… after I modify these two dozen parts. I love Glock for their dependability. They’re not perfect but they’re certainly the most reliable, practical and affordable. When you start hot rodding and modifying a lot of the parts in a system designed with extremely tight tolerances and rigorously tested by a team of genius engineers you’re inevitably introducing potential failure points on the system. A lot of the parts are also designed to take sand and water, hence more polymer. You start compromising the system with the introduction of more metal parts. Some parts are also designed to break in and in some cases intentionally wear out, not for some conspiracy of selling you more parts as the firearm and its OEM parts are already inexpensive, but to insure reliable operation based on the firearm’s design tolerances. I’m not saying that you may not get a better shooting experience out of a tricked out Glock and that it might not make a fun flashy range toy. I’m saying that you should think twice before making it your primary self defense weapon and if you don’t know what you’re doing please don’t attempt to figure it out yourself, unless it’s just a tinker gun and range toy. Get extremely good with a factory Glock before you even consider making any of these modifications. It is likely that unless you’ve put thousands of rounds through the firearm that making these modifications will do very little for you. Just train properly and get good at shooting.
