The sad part is that even in 2000s Rnb was way more about feelings and relationships than it is now. At least female singers are holding shit down and they release more sunstantial RnB projects than guys who are like "Copy-{aste" each other for last 5-10 years

This is a subgenre of music that I call "Brown liquor music!" Bobby Womack, Bill Withers and Al Green are some other singers in this subgenre IMHO. R. Kelly copies his vocal style from time to time.

One of the greatest songs ever. I remember my dad playing this song on repeat in the basement when he was sad. I start tearing up when Lenny starts talking. You can't convince me that he was faking this. Came straight from a pained heart. The vulnerability actually reminds me of how Bryson Tiller laid himself bare in TrapSoul. Yes Lenny's a bad boy. He was also the lead singer for Tower Of Power in the 70's A great voice. If this doesn't touch heart strings in man or women ....then go get your soul checked....peace
In my opinion, the female equivalent to this song is I Try by Angela Bofill. Neither of these songs feel like they were written, instead, cried out. You should definitely do a reaction video to that song.
