Ive had this computer for about a month & just installed that additional card as stated in this video & WOW it's so much faster browsing now! What a difference!
I just installed a 8Gb memory and a 500 Gb SSD. I also did a clean install of windows 11 in my new 500 gb ssd and installed Linux mint in the soldered 128GB ssd. I think windows runs faster, I don't know if it is because of my new SSD or the clean install (or both). Just some observations: 1. You dont need a bracket to install a regular size NVMe. You will need the bracket only if you install an small (44mm?) NVMe. 2. You will need an external mouse to clean install Windows 11. The pad does not work with the "Windows 11 installer". There are several tutorials on the internet about how to perform a clean install. The pad will work fine after the clean install. 3. You will need to install some of the monitor drivers manually from the Lenovo web site after installing windows 11. I installed the Crucial P3 Plus 500GB NVMe and the Crucial RAM 8GB DDR4 3200MHz.
@joseabelardorodriguez6320 do you know where I can find a video to install the NVMe? I just bought a 1 TB Crucial and I want to install it into this laptop.
Bought it at Costco, worked good for a week. only running Windows S that came on it and edge browser. Now started timing out running outlook and just browsing. Got the Ram upgrade not very easy to open. Tried guitar pic and credit card, could not pop cover up. Ended up breaking most of the little clips on cover. Oh well good thing it was only $150. Can't return it. I'll just keep upgrading it till it works....Update, it does run much better with the ram upgrade. Doesn't tme out loading outlook...
Hey there! Thanks for the detailed review of the Lenovo IdeaPad one. It seems like you've got a great deal on it, especially with the upgrades you're planning. The additional RAM and SSD should definitely make it a powerhouse for your needs. I appreciate the thorough walkthrough of the laptop's features and your personal experience with it. It's always helpful to hear real-world feedback before making a purchase. I do have a couple of questions: 1. How's the battery life on this laptop? 2. Did you notice any heating issues during extended usage? 3. Can you comment on the keyboard comfort for typing longer documents? Looking forward to hearing more about your experience with this laptop. Thanks for sharing your insights!
What a great review. I've been looking for a laptop that is affordable, quiet, and responsive. I assume I can add a wireless (or plug-in) mouse to it. I read some reviews from people who had so much trouble with the S Mode but if you can opt out of/disable it, like you said, "who cares". I am not very computer literate. Why would I need to install the additional RAM...advantages/reasons?
btw make sure your ram is matching , another thing to note.. if your buying a laptop to use ALOT look for fan ports on the side not on the bottom, the reason most are on the bottom is because easyer to design that way but fans being on the bottom causes overheating issue with extensive use.
I got this in 14 inch for $129 at Walmart, and I agree with everything you've said here, mine is the same (keyboard, etc). I was really here to see what you thought about S mode. First time I've had it, and I have really hated having to use Bing and Edge. So I guess I'll choose not to have S mode so that I can use Google as my search engine.
I'm out of S mode and it seems to work really well with the 20GB upgrade on mem. Only exception or problem I appear to have is when I am on Zoom conferences ... not often enough to be concern with though, as this is personal lappy and I use a work lappy for most of my zoom conferences! Wow you got a good deal on yours at $129! Wondering if you upgraded the mem or how much it came with originally?
@@Mia-qf7fh yes, it's my most favorite device, better than my work Macbook air 2020. To be fair, I turned off a lot of windows settings and cleaned up a lot of bloat. I also have it at Max power rather than balanced. The only time this is a. Issue is when I use zoom, but I just put a fan underneath to keep it from overheating.
You know what I realized... it's for $149 on Costco for the Black Friday Sale meanwhile this guy bought his 8 months ago for the exact same price it is now.. hmm.. makes me wonder
I like it for school I had a hp laptop it's 6 inches only I needed this one I'm now making money from my lunch money to buy one it would be great if I get it I always wanted it BTW good review
Bro i have no idea why some peoppe hate this laptop and saying its slow just upgrade it you saved alot of money aswell right now im planning on buying it for school
I actually just saw one at walmart and its $379. Its intel core i5, 8gb memory, storage is 512gb ssd. 15.6" full hd screen. Windows 11s. But the color isnt as dark as yours and this one is clearly more. I loved the loading speed and id just be using it for the basic things like netflix, papers and surfing web. I'm glad you mentioned the touch screen its one reason why i hesitated buying it yesterday. And you didnt mention anything about yours being i5 intel and wondering if thats a bad thing?
The version with the AMD chipset like the Ryzen 5 5500u is a much better deal at $399. Those Pentium and Celeron chips are extremely slow. Believe me. I have an N4500 in my $150 chromebook.
@@KYUBIMATIAS Seen on California Sacramento flyer . Starts midnight March 8th if for orders on line . Definite disable S mode . Only basic laptop for browsing . Other laptops with discounts up to $250 off .Don’t know if the discount is all Costco .
Great review! Unfortunately my son talked me out of it because he said the RAM could not be upgraded. I see from your informative review that it CAN be upgraded. Again, I missed the sale and it is out of stock so I purchased another Lenovo. Do you know if this model Lenovo can upgrade the RAM? IdeaPad Flex 5 14IAU7 Laptop - Type 82R7 This one is on sale for $399. Do you have any other suggestions.
I use mine in my garage to search for parts or tool , auto shop locations and thing like that , you can connect a printer and a wireless mouse. What else do you need ?
I Just bought one today for 149.99$ and hopefully everything works good for my schooling n work things that ima have to do on it. If anyone or if you got any extra info that would be helpful please lmk I’d appreciate it a lot thanks
PS. A Costco reviewer stated that they added a 256GB SSD and used it as the main OS drive because it was faster so it looks like that slot works on the 82LX0050US model.
Great video! Trying to figure out, with an external drive, if I could load some software such as accounting or tax software. It's on for $239.00 in Canada.
@@BUTLERNIXON I noticed the Costco Canada laptop isn't the same model and has a lower processor... means it may not be as upgradeable as this machine.... Only place I found this exact model in canuckada was best buy for $499... aint gonna git it.
@@jackdeth613 I purchased the one at Best Buy for $219.00 CAD with the AMD Athlon Silver 3050U/128GB eMMC/4GB. And I added the 8GB RAM DDR4 which was really easy. Before I added it the RAM was 2.83 GB out of 3.44 GB. Thanks again for your video!
Target Circle has a deal right now on IdeaPad 3 15.6" with the Pentium N6000 for $119.99 w/ free shipping. I grabbed one for the hell of it. Is this a decent laptop though?
In my Laptop " Lenovo IdeaPad 1-15IJL7 - Type 82LX ; Product Name 82LX0050US ” how to add an additional 500GB SSD Card ? There is already 128 GB storage in the above-mentioned laptop. To increase the storage, I want to add an additional Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) in the laptop. Is there any separate slot available for fixing this 500 GB SSD (NVMe M.2 2280) ? What make/models of SSD are suitable for this purpose ?
This, from Lenovo Community Forum, is pasted regarding the ability to upgrade ram without voiding warranty: The link is at the bottom. 2021-06-06 01:08:37 Re:Hardware Upgrade - Warranty Void(?) The consensus seems to be that you can open the system to perform RAM and HDD/SSD upgrades without voiding the warranty, but if you damage the system while doing so, that will not be covered by the warranty. If you do choose to do the work yourself, be sure to follow the instructions for opening the case precisely (see links below), such as using non-metallic pry tools such as these to pry open the case. I cannot stress enough how important it is to disconnect the battery immediately before doing any work inside the laptop, and after unplugging the battery, it is not a bad habit to hold down the power button for a few seconds just to be sure any residual power is dissipated. Using metal (conducive) tools to pry open the case, and failing to disconnect the battery can result in blowing the tiny LCD backlight fuse that is soldered to the motherboard, and that is a very expensive repair. Note: Use only a nylon pry tool if you need something to nudge the battery connector free to disconnect it. forums.lenovo.com/t5/Gaming-Laptops/Hardware-Upgrade-Warranty-Void/m-p/5082727 NOTE: This is a different story, according to another poster, regarding changing out the SSD, because it is soldered on system board and doesn't have a slot for more SSD. Here is the link that explains that: forums.lenovo.com/t5/Gaming-Laptops/Opening-the-laptop-and-upgrading-SSD-and-RAM-void-the-warranty/m-p/5085192
My parents was going to buy me this for school but I already had the old Lenovo gaming laptop with i7 and Nvidia gpu for free and I am fixing, installing windows 11 and upgrading it I am going to use it for school, gaming and everything so I don’t need that the old laptop it had a subwoofer as well that doesn’t but this is what your get for 200$ I suggested This over the crappy school Chromebook’s this one is better.
Great review, I'm actually wondering as I do - do a lot of photo editing and I'm using a 2010 desktop if this would be something that would still be helpful in my editing (I.e photoshop, lightroom) unfortunately I'm not finding any reviews in that regard. Any in sight would be appreciated! Thank you 😊
if you use your older apps from your 2010 system on this laptop it should all run fine... newer versions of those apps might be too heavy due to updated coding.... but with a ram and ssd upgrade this machine could be a decent replacement for a system from 2010. This is just my opinion... what do I know anyways?
I have a question, i just got this laptop and i'm wondering how i can get the graphics to look better? it looks washed out to me and super white. the color doesnt look vibrant at all and theres only brightness in the settings. which doesnt help.
Just bought this for my son but the AMD 3020e processor version.. As i'm not too tech savvy just wondering if the DDR 8GB RAM will still slot in the same? I only ask as my son is into video editting and wants to be able to run Adobe After effects & think the extra Ram could help maybe..
Hey if you received it could you tell me if it runs well for things like light gaming because im gonna buy it aswell, if you would it would help alot, thanks
The problem is you need a better video card in the computer. The ram helps run multiple programs or open windows. Adobe is more video processing and you would need a dedicated video card laptop to effectively use it.
You can absolutely but this computer will show almost the same results with a 12gb. Unless you have one laying around don’t over spend. In that case buy a different model almost the same price.
@@TheRealReviewz I'm not sure that's true. I haven't upgraded or opened mine yet, but I bought mine through amazon recently and its a 8gb ram model with a 256gb SSD and after checking your link there is less than a $10 price difference for the 1x16 ... for this small of a difference, I'm going to purchase the 1x16 to find out. I'll check back in and let you know if it works out as faster. Also, wondering if the laptop would be enhanced by running Linux Mint? If any has swapped for this OS and can let me know how it is going, that would be awesome -Thanks!
Does this laptop have an actual hard drive? Ours just went kaput after a year, and I took it to a reputable repair shop, only for them to tell me it doesn't have a hard drive, so they cant work on it. Thanks!
Can you "Zoom" or run Microsoft Teams with the current configuration? I need a computer for "live" meetings and want to make sure that this basic computer will work for this.
I just ordered one but it says 8 g ram and 256 gb memory. Do you think I could add that ram chip/card thing and if so have the link? I haven't owned a computer since windows xp came out and it had a dvd burner lol
You said it's Windows 11 ? Is that after you upgraded from the Windows 11 S mode ? If I keep it in Windows S mode can I install Printer software on it for my wifi printer ?
I decided to return it to Costco. I was afraid it would be too slow and wasn't sure it was what I wanted. I actually installed 8 GB more ram in my older hp and it works for me for now@@janjaf844
wondering the same thing. it's 26 bucks right now on amazon for a 16gb. i just don't know if the 16gb will work, i.e. if the laptop is maxed out at a certain amount of memory?
It's working pretty good at 20GB. Only thing I can't figure out is sometimes it is not playing nice with Zoom, it gets choppy and will give a low system resources error message. i tried closing all my running apps, but for some reason zoom still is a bit of an issue to run :( @@note.da.gøat
This absolutely works. I'm currently running the 20GB usable. I have a screen shot of my mem running, I just don't see an option to upload the image in comments... LOL. My guess is you can't put an image in the comments?
NO! It is Intel "Mobile" or Pentium Silver N6000. It is a processor designed for the specific use case of low power, low heat, etc. Life is a trade off. There is no free lunch. If you want Intel i5, you'll need a machine designed for that processor. I.E. More power, more heat dissipation, etc.
Im trying to see the size to see if my stinky delusional brother took it and put it in his backpack i ordered a ideapad laptop on Amazon and it was apposed to come on Friday yesterday and it didn't come i felt his backpack and it doesn't feel like a book in it im worried this dude is a theft he steals my mom credit cards and buys robux and more and now my mom gave him full responsibility
@@laurietice2612 installed the linked 8gb memory. I definitely noticed some sluggishness while multitasking, with 12GB of ram it handles all my multitasking just fine now. I usually have a zoom meeting and multiple tabs running at once
