L340 with i9, 16gb ram, ssd hdd. It was my kid school laptop for pandemic times. I was surprised that it unperform so badly in games, while second laptop (lenovo gaming, with nearly the same spec) works like a charm. I was going to sell that l340 but yours video saves it. -115mv and it works much better then before. Temperatures drops from 80 to 50 degrees. Thank you, I owe you a beer 👍
@@rolen2358 me too, but only with TRaider, CS GO, san andreas, fall guys, its ok , so i guess if you play tomb raider back to normal , the game for me never down 50 fps, and if you have problem with temperature you elevate a laptop with laptop stand, remember that the air its ejected below. for me laptop without stand 80-85 C of course the procesador lost fps couse the I5 when the temperature its 85 C procesador throttling. and laptop with stand its 65-78 C its a 15 C that different.
@@josueflores4095 Final update - undervoltage helps for around 1h. After that it heats up and fps dropped again. I have opened it, and interior was full of dust. I was surprised (in negative way) how dirty it was. Laptop was kept on desk only. It looks like airflow was messed up during designing of case. I did repasting also. With undervoltage around -130mv and cleaning it - finally works like a new. Aparently it needs to be clean every year. So if anyone will have issue with l340 - check interior.
@@rolen2358 I bought mine for a steal price off a C2C marketplace, and it initially reached very high temps and fan speeds. Upon opening it I saw the fan was *clogged* with dust, cat hair and lint, and the previous owner seemingly screwed up the TIM application on the two chips, which certainly didn't help the temperatures. After thorougly cleaning it the temperatures dropped by 10C and the fans ran much quieter. As a last measure I undervolted the CPU and the temperatures never rose above 88C.
@@rolen2358 Pro tip: Prop up your laptop for better airflow and lower temps. And OC + UV the gtx 1650 in it. OC the 1650's vram as much as you can. I did it to my gtx 1650 gddr6 and in most games the clock is no 1785mhz, the highest its allowed to go. And in very demanding sections, it generally holds around 1650mhz to 1700mhz. I also OC'd my vram by +600mhz. All these tweaks gave 10% boost to performance.
IF VIDEO DIDINT HELP READ THIS! If your laptop is still sloe even after following this video theres till one thing you can do. You simpy need to clean it, open the laptop by unscrewing the back and simply remove every piece of dust and ash you can see. Also dont forget to clean cooling fans, Id reccomend taking them out to do so. Theres very usefull tutorial about dissasembly on RU-vid its easy to find. I did all of this and went from deppresing 11 FPS to 160 (csgo) Hope it works for you
@@fishboi6724 dude, i thoroughly researched the lenovo ideapad l340 model, it has a critical cooling problem, so I recommend you to buy a new gaming laptop
my L340 started to throttle a few months ago, so I bought a laptop cooler, but the temps were still pretty bad. I did tinker with ThrottleStop but it didn't really improve my temps as much when I undervolted so I limited the turbo ratio limits. I realized though as I was cleaning my fans earlier the bigger one had stopped working, so I plan to buy a replacement. for the meantime though, I'll be applying the 30w limit you showed here, it makes a lot of sense and I hope it can improve my temps even further thank you so much for the video
I bought mine around 2 years ago, and experienced the throttling very early on, because living in a hot country makes the whole system heat up easier. My boyfriend did a great effort and came to the same conclusion to undervolt the CPU, which made all the difference. In the long time use however, the disks and RAM have become a problem. Freezes happen after 2-3 hours of gaming use. What we think would be good is to swap the two disks to a bigger and better SSD and RAM. We'll see if we upgrade this laptop or not.
@@r3s3tko_2 after undervolting this laptop, it served for a while with the freezes from starting the HDD at random. We never upgraded the hardware further on this one, but ended up purchasing a totally new laptop.
@@oOLareOo do you think the freezes were caused by the undervolting of the cpu or just happened out of nowhere? i have the same l340 and the cpu gets very hot so i would like to undervolt the cpu but if this makes the laptop freeze then i probably wont do it
@@mr_mic2685 the undervolting was not causing the freezes. We actually recently put this laptop back to use as a backup. It's the windows trying to read the HDD periodically, even if no task is set up for it. To get rid of this you can either get rid of the SSD and HDD and replace them with a bigger SSD. Or do what we did: We ended up re-installing windows in a way, so the HDD is not formatted, and thus not detected by windows at all. If the system runs on the single SSD, the freezing should stop. Undervolting is for performance in gaming. Many titles are dropping in FPS without it. Installed W11 btw, runs just fine. Well as good as it can.
Holly Molly Jesus Christ, thank you very much. I was wondering why I had lower performance than expected, and this explains exactly why this laptop model overheats and how to solve it. I was thinking of doing a full reset of the PC, but probably it won't be needed. Thx from Brazil
Now pop in the bios and disable DPTF. Then using throttle stop lower the multiplier to 39. Temps are better and the thermal throttling will only happen during extreme benchmarks.
hey i am not much of a gamer type, so i don't need much fps but will this help in overall performance like for android studio , using multiple apps - tabs in chrome like that?
I've never had a "real" gaming computer so I haven't noticed any slowing beyond what I would consider normal (maybe 'none' is normal and I'm just used to junk lol)... but I've found myself needing to replace the power port and I already put in new hard drives and ram, so I might as well just keep making improvements. I guess this and replacing the screen are next on the list. :)
After repasting and deep cleaning I had no good results so following this fixed it, in fact it was so bad before that it kept shutting off due to heating.
This method did not work for me, after 20 minutes of V Rising the cpu bottlenecked or thermal throttled and it went from smooth Fps to very choppy, no clue how to fix it maybe you could look at it thru teamviewer and help me Lenovo IdeaPad L340-IRH15
Can I send you money somehow? I've had the laptop for 3 years now and I haven't been able to solve this problem. Suddenly I found your video and after 3 years I can play without trothlle processor. Thank you very much indeed, you deserve a lot for this.
It works! Thank you very much!.. a question plz, Is there no long term disadvantage in my Laptop to having made this modification? Thank you very much for your answer. I have the same PC as you
Good guide, this helps a lot. Unfortunately, I have already learned how to use this tool. but there is a question why during the game the processor is loaded at 100%. I have a Lenovo Gaming 3-15IMH05 with i7-10750h and the processor is loaded at a maximum of 50%? (have 36-56 fps)
Update Yeah I ve done it seeing some significant changes, a doubt System agent voltage youve said -50 offset voltage but in the video youve set it to -75.2,ive gone with -75.2.
Hey, great video. I have the upgraded version of this laptop which comes with an i7-9750H will these same settings work well with my processor. I'm mainly talking about the power limit, I've already undervolted my cpu.
i have the same device but with a i7 i did the same tweaks you did but it sits on 2-2.2 ghz its better but it still doesnt hit 3.9-4.2 like it should can you please help me , and thanks in advance
Im not sure why people have problems here, I don't ( not really atleast ) Basically DDR-4 2666 Mhz 8gb ram ( gonna update it in 4 days to 16 gb ) GTX 1650 I-7 99** ( the *s are for i forgot lol ) It works very well, just the RAM storage is a bit too small. I've monitored it, with GTAV, HOI4, CS:GO and other different types of games. It works very well. The GPU when playing GTAV doesn't go above 70% ( mostly stays around 30-50, sometimes higher, but the RAM is ALWAYS AROUND 90% ( 95-98 ) ) So I found out the problem. It was the RAM, so I will upgrade it by myself even tho I never did it, I ordered the right one for my Mainboard and i'll update it here if the performance is better or not. Basically and logically it should be, cause everything's chill and the Laptop's not even hot, but only the RAM "overreacting", it runs smooth, but just saying. Been using it for 2 years now, and my first upgrade to a Laptop.
I feel its faster because the dell has a 10th gen i5 instead of an 9th gen, gddr6 vram instead of gddr5 and has memory which is clocked higher? but your tuning is gr8 dayam your tuning with this laptop the performance the gains
My msi afterburner works sometimes . (when i load up fortnite it lets me play perfectly fine getting 120fps . then after 30 min of play it just stops working . and my frames drop to 30fps) any help?
Help me Why does GTA 5 always lags on my laptop, specs are good. It's an i5-9300H , 8gigs of ram and 1tb + 256gb nvme. Lenovo IdeaPad l340 (GTX 1050 3gb varient) it even lags on the lowest settings. It's impossible to get constant 60fps.
iam thinking about upgrading my L340 to 16 ram will this help me with the drop farmes cuz (cuz it usually happens when the ram usage is too high) and make working on the laptop smoother cuz the ram usage isn't that extremely high?
Unfortunately it has only single channel and i don't think a single channel 16gb would help you much. This laptop does not even provide dual channel :/
Have a Lenovo L340 and have been having a problem with random rebooting about once every hour. Found out about "Fn Q" and set it to "turbo" (it was on quiet), and tried undervolting and limiting power as instructed. Let's see if this works.
@@rhemisnip Holding the Fn key while pressing Q toggles the baseline fan speed. "Turbo" means a higher baseline fan speed, while "quiet" means a lower baseline fan speed. Unfortunately the other trick I tried did not work. Machine still reboots randomly. Next machine is not Lenovo.

I just found a Throttlepad in a trash can, I guess the previous owner got tired of getting bluescreens lol. Thankfully it’s in an acceptable condition, but I think I’ll just sell it.
Can anyone help me? I have the exact same laptop (Lenovo), but throttlestop doesn't seem to work, I follow every step there is, but it is like bios is overriding my settings for some reason... Should I downgrade to original bios that came with this laptop? Because it seems to me it is not possible to undervolt anymore
Hi i have a question. I have l340 but i can't undervolt. I searched in some forums and they saying something like Intel, dell, lenovo blocked the undervolting feature. What i need do then because my temps reaching like 98C and idk what to do.
Hi, I see your EPP is disabled, do you think disabling EPP only by itself would make a change? I have the GTX1050 version of this laptop. Without any tinkering with throttlestop, I realized that If I use an external monitor, I do not face with these issues, cpu runs fine, all the graphical calculations are being done with NVIDIA (It does not matter if you start every app with NVIDIA gpu, if you are using built-in laptop screen. Because Intel graphics still works for displaying and it causes increase of temperature no matter what kind of cooler you use.)
I usually turn bd prochot off because it tends to drop all of my cpu responsive after an hour of gaming or just watching youtube, try experimenting it.
@@M7son3000 all chips will cope with different undervolts, try for -100 or -75 then if it's unstable gradually dial it back. Mine was happiest at -50 but you might have more luck.
Hi, my friend got same problem but with different laptop. I found that it's problem with bi directional sensor. I heard both that disabling BD PROCHOT may void your warranty, and heard that it's safe to disable. It might get trigerred by 1 faulty sensor, so i disabled this one option in ThrottleStop, and bum, clocks not 800MHz, but 2,1GHz. Someone correct me if Im wrong, and maybe give it a try (If u hadn't) Also carefully monitor temps of gpu and cpu, becouse there's still a risk, and u don't want to damage machine
@@omarkalaf the error is related to a hardware failure, aka, overheating and I play games like gta so idk why it did this, after I disable and put everything back to default, it works just fine
For mine its so weird. I have the l340 with 16gb ram and i7 core with gtx 1650. I literally cannot play 1080p in 60 fps on medium settings for too long because afterr 15 to 20 min GPU utilization goes up to 99% and fps drops to 15 fps. Temps are like 68 to 75 Degree on the GPU so its not thermal throttling but power usage drops to like 3W. So yeah, Only way I get 60 fps is by playing lower resolution + medium settings. IT happened after like 6 months of use
I have the same laptop It's not because of gpu but because of cpu temps While playing far cry 5 on high settings The cpu temps sky rockets to 91°C and the system starts thermal throttling which reduces the performance of the laptop I have seen many people have the same issue with this machine You should clean it every month or so use a cooler And undervolt it for best results
