@@alexzhang3836 The M81 looks similar to the M91p. What are the specs in your M81? The best graphics card I have heard someone installing in a similar model (M93p) is a GTX 1050 ti Low Profile. That would be a very nice upgrade. Some basic things you may have already tried: 1) This might sound like a silly question, but you for sure connected the display cable to the card? Each display port doesn't show anything on your monitor? Ex: you tried the HDMI and DVI and the both don't work? 2) Try manually selecting the display option on the monitor by pressing the source button (located on the monitor) 3) Try different display cables. Could be the one you're using isn't working. 4) Do you have another PC you can test the card in? Did you buy it brand new or used? Let me know and we can dig deeper if needed.

The GT 210 I installed in this build is terrible for gaming. I should have mentioned that in the video! Definitely can install something much much better.

The last time I did this, I put everything into a Vista era Lenovo tower, as seen in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cJKCKDo9_3w.html I'm certain you can move it into any case you like, just be aware of where certain components, like the front USB port board, can fit. Or, if you are planning to upgrade to a USB 3.0 board. Where would you put it (PCI slot? Is there room with the graphics card?). Do you plan to upgrade in the future? Maybe it's worth it to take a look at a budget case that would go well with a budget build, until you have enough money to contribute towards a powerful gaming build. Be sure to take lots of pictures so you remember where everything plugs in on the motherboard. As always, be sure to prepare yourself mentally for some troubleshooting in case you need to figure something out. I think I will make a pcpartpicker.com build page once I get the time to migrate one of my M91p's.

I had that problem once with an HP Compaq 6005 Pro PC. I believe the problem was a display driver for Window 10. It was solved with the addition of a graphics card, but I believe the correct driver also solved the problem . try searching for the graphics driver on the M91p website. It would likely be a Win 7 driver.

The difference would be that the M73 supports 4th gen Intel i5 while the M91p supports 2nd gen i5. As well, the integrated Intel HD 4400/4600 is better and there is USB 3.0 instead of just 2.0. $100 is not bad at all, you can easily upgrade to an SSD+HDD combo and get that RAM up to 8GB at least. Hit me up if you need help sourcing parts, I will likely have something in my shop or will help look up deals.

Yep, it would work. Nice match. It receives power through the motherboard, no extra cables from the power supply for this one.

Any SATA 2 or SATA 3 Solid State Drive would work. Any SATA 2.5" or 3.5" hdd would work (SSD highly recommended). Look for any RAM that is DDR3 1600MHz. 1333MHz RAM would work as well. Look for 2GB or 4GB sticks to have either 8GB or 16GB installed. Preferably, all sticks will be the same make/model. Graphics cards, look out for a 1GB DDR5, such as the GT 730, or a 2GB DDR5 like the GT 1030. Do you have a ThinkCentre? If so, which one? Is the SSD not showing in Windows or BIOS? If you haven't checked in BIOS, navigate to Boot Options and check to see that the SSD is included in the Boot Order from all categories you are able to do so.

If you buy new, the low profile brackets will come with the card. Used, you'll have to ask the seller. Otherwise, you can find them from eBay sellers, just search "low profile graphics card brackets" and find one that matches. Also, you could always cut and modify tall brackets with a pair of metal snips and pliers.

If you go to 18:44 during the Finish Install portion of the video, you'll see what I did. Hope that helps :)

I believe it should work, though I have never tried. It should. I have installed an AMD HD 6450 2GB card before, so AMD does work on M91p towers. You might have to configure graphics in BIOS. Is the 7470 something you want to try or is it a deal you are finding nearby?

Just to verify that you have it installed in the PCIx16 slot closest to the heatsink? Are you getting any display at all from the card? Check in BIOS to see which display is default or leave it alone if it is set to auto. Can you confirm that the card works, perhaps in another PC? Likewise, can you confirm that the PCI slot is good on your motherboard by testing another card or from previous use?

It’s getting power the fan is coming on. Yes, next to the heatsink. I’ve been messing with it trying everything. Frustrating. 😂

If you don't want to go through the process of cloning a drive: Is there a Win 7 Product Key somewhere on the case? If not, go here and scroll down to the "Method 2: Using Script" section. www.winhelponline.com/blog/view-your-product-key-windows-10-8-7-script/ You can retrieve the product key by creating a text document, copy+paste the script, and then save the file as "all files," name it what you want, and add the .vbs file extension. Use the example on the site.

It's likely bad RAM if you are getting beeps. I know that isn't good news, but that might be it. Generally, there is an order to install RAM in the DIMM slots. Check out this manual: www.esm-computer.de/handbuch/M91p.pdf where it states on page 84 "Install memory modules in the sequence of DIMM 2, DIMM 4, DIMM 1, and DIMM 3. See "Locating parts on the system board” on page 77." Are you able to try the RAM out in a different tower? To verify they work?

@@HaisteComputerRepair unlikely you’ll see this but if you do is there enough room under the fan to fit a RAM stick with heat sync on top? Looking at Patriot Viper III, or Corsair vengeance LOW PROFILE. Going to fill 4 DIMMS of 4x8gb if room allows it in the Patriot as much cheaper. Thoughts?

@@user-n0tf0und. It might come in contact with the plastic piece around the fan+heatsink, but it's flexible plastic, so you might be able to just squeeze it in. I'm guessing the design is meant to redirect air flow as there is no rear exhaust fan aside from the power supply fan. You could always just take it off or modify it.

So long as it is low profile. Unless you have the larger style tower case.

Is this a Lenovo ThinkCentre M91p you have? If not, what do you have? If it is a ThinkCentre of this era, there should be a Windows 7 key you can use to activate Windows 10. So, with that in mind, you can do a fresh install onto the SSD and set up the HDD as storage, if you like. A fresh install is the best. If you really want to, you can also clone the HDD to the SSD with Macrium Cloning software. So, 1)do you have a Win 7 key on the tower? 2)Are you ok with doing a fresh install on to an SSD? (It's pretty easy). Let me know and we can go from there.

I installed a GT 210, but I do not recommended that card at all. If you are looking for Low Profile GPU: GT 1030 for budget, GTX 1050 little higher budget, GTX 1050 ti, and then GTX 1650.

Yes, you can totally do that. The M93p is a similar PC compared to this M91p. If there is only one SATA power cable connected from the power supply to the stock HDD, then you can purchase a SATA power splitter, like what I used in this video. The power supply can handle this plus a low profile graphics card, similar to what I installed in this video. Search "SATA Y power splitter" on eBay and you'll find one. You'll need another SATA cable as well, to plug from the SSD to the motherboard. Both cables are cheap. What graphics card are you looking at installing? Good luck with the build, you should be all good to go once you get everything you need.

@@christiancaridad6816 I would bet the power supply is the same 240W found in this video, just perhaps in a different shape to fit the case. I think you will be fine. Of course, if you have the money to spend on a better SFF power supply then do it, but I have to assume you're working on a budget if you're upgrading an M93p, which is a good office PC. For low profile cards, you don't have to worry about plugging in a power cable from the power supply, as you would with higher tier cards. I would look for a 2GB DDR3 128-bit low profile card. Nvidia, AMD Radeon, EVGA, etc. The same card in this video, but 2GB instead of 1GB. I found a couple for around $50 or $60 CAD with shipping. 8GB RAM or more + SSD will be a pretty solid setup.

I'm not sure to be honest. Definitely take out the plastic piece around the CPU fan. Maybe it would sit right on top of the tabs for the RAM slots. Are you able to open up the tower case and take a look? Be mindful of needing a power supply that has an extra power plug for the card. Let me know if it does fit.

@@HaisteComputerRepair so yes my board matches the one in this video and I am aware and have a 500w PSu coming for this build. So yes the issue is the size of this card and the possibility that it won’t fit due to the proximity of the Ram slots.

If it keeps booting to the Windows install, have you tried removing the USB with Windows on it, after you have installed Windows? It sounds like the USB is in the top of the boot order, which you can change in BIOS

For sure, that would be an awesome card to install. Of course, look for the low profile version and don't forget to make sure you get the low profile brackets to fit the small case.

It should work just fine. Make sure you get the low profile option unless you have a larger tower case or plan to migrate everything from a SFF to larger tower case. Always expect some kind of troubleshooting, so maybe try to look up some info on other people installing the same thing.

If you're just installing a low profile graphics card, you don't need to do anything with the CPU. There probably isn't any kind of lid on a CPU. Just the heat sink and a little lever contraption that holds it in place on the board. Does that help?

@@HaisteComputerRepair The 1050 ti Low Profile has measurements of H=30 L=172 W=113mm and the plastic black lid around the CPU cooler is in the way, so can I remove it and leave the cpu without it?

@@kluthai Oh, I see what you mean. The black plastic piece around the CPU fan? You can take it off, just make sure to monitor how hot the CPU gets with it missing. The fan will still blow air down through the heat sink, just the black plastic piece won't be there to help distribute air flow in the small case. Just so we're on the same page, only remove that black plastic, not the fan and heatsink below it.

@@joeharyar9873 Yep, the low profile cards will be powered by the motherboard and only draw up to maybe 75W. No power connecter from the power supply is necessary, unless you case swap and install a full size video card.

Are you installing a new HDD or SSD with a fresh install of Windows? Or wishing to move (aka "clone") your current Windows setup to a new HDD or SSD? There are a few different things you can do. First, though, are you looking to back up both personal files and software? Ex: pictures, music, and Adobe Photoshop or MS Office 2019, etc, or, just personal files. If it's just personal files like pictures and music, you can backup to an external hard drive. With paid-for software, if you have product keys, you can likely download the programs again and resume using them. Free software you should be able to download again using the same information (email, username, password, etc) you originally used when you got it. In other words, you can install a fresh copy of Windows and then download and put whatever you want back to how you would like it, just like the first time you started using your PC. If you're looking to "clone" your HDD to a new SSD, there is software you can use that will do this for you. Cloning is taking your current Windows experience and putting it on a new drive. You will need to be able to connect your new HDD or SSD to your computer in order to clone from your current HDD. If you can answer these questions with some detail, we can go from there. Does that make sense?

So I got the PC originally from new egg refurbished with parts and OS already installed. But I wanted to upgrade my hard drive, ram,and Im also adding a graphics card (doesn't have one currently) so I want to know a way to get my current info on to new HDD. Don't have anything special personally on PC . Just a streaming rig but would like my programs and windows 10 but if there is no easy way to do that . How do go about getting windows on new HDD I can reinstall everything else worse case

@@darriusteeter Ok, so this is how you can install a new copy of Windows 10: Is there a Windows 7 product key anywhere on the tower case? If not, there are two different ways to find your product key here: www.winhelponline.com/blog/view-your-product-key-windows-10-8-7-script/ Once you have the product key, you can download a copy of Windows 10 .iso here (click on download Tool Now): www.microsoft.com/en-ca/software-download/windows10 Make sure you have a usb stick with at least 6GB worth of space. Take everything off the usb stick you might need as it will be formatted in the process. Follow the directions on the Windows download tool, it's pretty easy. Once you have the Win 10 .iso loaded on to the usb stick, install the new HDD in your tower, power on, hit the enter key at the ThinkCentre Logo, select the Boot Options from the menu, select the USB option, and the rest is straightforward. Remember to have that product key on hand as you will need it. This is a better option than cloning. If you don't have anything to transfer over, do this. If for some reason you can't find your product key through these methods, let me know. I would assume that NewEgg would have installed a legit copy of Win 10. Note: before installing Win 10 and while you are installing the new HDD, install the RAM and the Graphics Card as well. Then install Windows 10 as it will preload and install drivers for you. Once Win 10 is loaded, hit the Windows key, type updates, check for updates, download, and then restart. That should take care of the drivers for the graphics card and everything else.

So I did the powershell and it doesn't show the key in either spot

Absolutely agree. I had a couple geforce gt 210 cards lying around, so I thought they would be good enough to at least demonstrate how to install a card. They don't have a great benefit, though. I would have loved to test out a gt 1030. I have one or two coming my way now, but I don't have any more M91p's. M93p's I will have, though.

I bought this one from someone in Canada on Kijiji.ca. I've found that it really helps to stay on top of multiple buy and sell sites, eBay, etc, to find the deal. This was probably $50 CAD. Only really worth it for older towers.

Thanks! Unfortunately, no you can only upgrade to an i7-2600 CPU. 3rd Gen Intel came with the ThinkCentre M92p.

For sure. You can migrate everything over to any larger case that matches the motherboard screw locations. Just be aware that you will have to customize and troubleshoot in the event something goes wrong. Ex: once, I migrated an M91p to a larger case and, for some reason, the CPU fan started running at max speed at all times. I ended up installing a fan with lower amperage.

You could migrate everything to a larger case or maybe run the PC with the lid removed or get some PCI extension cables and run the card outside of the case. If it needs a power plug from the PSU, you would need to get a different power supply (aka PSU) that supports that. Does that make sense?

I actually have found that certain lines of Lenovo are the easiest to upgrade and modify. There aren't many proprietary things like power supply and fan connections. Dell was the worst for this in my experience. Of course, not all Dell PC's, but many. Lenovo business class are well built and user (and IT) friendly.

If it is the Low Profile version of the card, yes. If the front I/O bracket on the card is taller than 3 inches, no, you will have to use a bigger case.

I actually just shot a video upgrading a ThinkCentre M90p. Same size tower case as in this video for the M91p. I will edit it and upload soon.

An unexpected shutdown could be any number of reasons. I would recommend using event viewer by hitting the windows key, Type Event Viewer>Custom Views>Administrative events. Look for Critical errors and Google search the error codes.

As for it being Micro, it doesn't seem to be much smaller than a standard sized system board. Are you looking to purchase or replace one?

I don't see why not. The largest capacity I have installed is 1TB + 128GB SSD. I'd say go for it.

Usually, the HDMI and DVI display ports are on the card and the VGA port is attached to the card with a ribbon cable and has it's own separate bracket. Sometimes when I'm buying used I'll get a large bracket that only fits in larger cases, so watch that you either get the SFF brackets with the card or order them separately (eBay or elsewhere).

An RX 5600 XT? Good question, I'm not sure. Correct me if I'm wrong, but you would first need to migrate everything to a larger tower or keep the sff and use one of those PCI ribbon extenders and fit the larger card in best you can manage. Also, a SATA power splitter to gain power from the PSU, am I right? Unless someone released a low profile version? I've never modded the id of a gpu, so I can't really be of much help. Let me know if you do find a solution, I would be curious to know.

Depending on your budget, perhaps SSD and RAM first to build up the foundation of your system. Upgrading to an i5 will really improve performance after that. You can find some good deals on eBay.

I believe that it would work with this system, however I question if it 1) will fit in a SFF (Small form factor) tower case. 2) requires a power plug from the power supply. In pictures I looked up, it appears to not have a power plug. The shape of the card leads me to think you will need a larger case. Or, you to pursue purchasing a "low profile" card that is designed to fit SFF tower cases.

@@aaronleonor1421 It's all good. Pcie 3.0 cards are compatible with 2.0 and vice versa. M91p is 2.0. I have installed a gtx 650 before after migrating to a larger case and installing a power supply capable of handling more.

@@HaisteComputerRepair I forgot to add that med settings for shadows though i think it still ran at 60fps. This is 720p though not 1080p at 1080 med settings most likely with shadows off or low. Bottom line, it plays esports titles fairly well, and on higher settings with 720p res

This is only 2nd gen Intel, so you are looking at DDR3 1333MHz RAM. DDR4 did not come until the 6th gen of Intel CPU's.

@@senatorjack9758 It would really depend on what graphics card you wish to install. Maybe on low settings. What do you have in mind for GPU? Remember with the SFF case you are limited to low profile graphics cards.

Did you have two DIMM slots occupied with RAM already? What capacity and type/speed? It's possible the DIMM slot doesn't work, but also possible the RAM is faulty. Try installing one by one to see which one, if any, is dead.

@@HaisteComputerRepair I already had to DIMM's Occupied and i installed working modules into the slots and the system stayed black when they was installed, and I made sure to test both independently. by changing the current slots what worked

@@liamtilliam5866 Have you confirmed with one working stick that all four DIMM slots are not working? When is the last time the computer booted on?

@@liamtilliam5866 Dang. Well, if you get 2 x 8GB DDR3 RAM sticks you can still run 16GB dual channel. That's not so bad.

I know it's not really an upgrade unless you want HDMI. I should have made that clear, but I didn't really think about it at the time. It was just what I had lying around my shop. I've done a similar follow up with a GT710 (moderately better). And Some 4GB cards which are great. Consider it a how to install parts for someone trying to learn.

Can you tell me what you plan to use it for after upgrading? Let's start there.

@@lasoute Look up a GTX 1050ti Low profile Graphics Card and see what the prices look like. For used and new. As for an SSD, Any brand will do. Go for any capacity 2.5" SATA III SSD. The GPU will help a lot with gaming and editing. SSD will speed things up. What does your RAM look like? If a GTX 1050ti is too expensive, look up the GT 1030, though this would be less performance.

Definitely a less powerful CPU, but there's always the option to upgrade :)

Yes, if you install a graphics card or anything into the PCI slot, it will need to be low profile and have low profile brackets.

@@timisasamis2465 If you go to the same link I left in the comment above, for the gtx 1650, scroll down and there is a fairly long list of equivalents or similar cards. Look for a low profile version if you are putting it in a SFF tower case, like the one in this video. Sounds like you might have to have one shipped to you?

If you want to play those games, I would get a graphics card. At least a GT 1030, but up to a GTX 1050 or 1650. These are low profile options.
