Useful. I am expecting mine deliver d today. Btw did you install that M.2 SSD yourself it looks strange without the plastic caddy I have seen in photos from Lenovo. Is there any risks of just install it like this? Does Lenovo sell the plastic kind of trays for the m2 not to sit tilted ?
There are 4 ram slots. Why did you bother to remove the ram under the keyboard? You can just insert the 2 ram sticks in the 2 slots under the back cover. Don't you end up with more ram this way? Am I missing something?
Optimal memory performance is "dual-channel mode", which is obtained by installing matching memory cards with identical size and timings in the "paired" slots of each bay. So you would use two cards in slots #1 and #3 (under the keyboard), or two cards in slots #2 and #4 (under the back cover), in order to see "dual-channel" performance. Any other configuration involving "un-paired" slots will result in "single-channel mode," which provides less than optimal performance.

Hi There! Quick Question: Could you have placed that 8gb stick in one of the RAM slots on the underside? I'm doing the same thing, but was wondering if adding that 8gb stick back to give me 40gb or RAM (the 32 + the original 8) would mess with the dual channel setup or not. Thanks!
I know my P50 has 16GB of original RAM, but don't know whether its a single stick of 16, or 4 sticks of 4GB. Is there any way other than opening it up to see how the current RAM is configured?
Thanks. Really helpful. Two questions, assuming I have also bought 32GB (2 16GB sticks) DDR4: Does it make a difference if I install them in bay 1/3 (under keyboard) or bays 2/4 (back of machine)? And, assuming it does not, would you just keep the 8GB stick in the front and install the additional 32GB in the back for a total of 40GB? (Would having 3 sticks actually affect performance in any way?)
Shouldn't be any difference, I installed under keyboard so i wouldnt have to remove it the next time I installed RAM. You can also keep the 8GB stick, though performance may be slightly lower (likely not noticeable) due to double vs. single channel

Crucial should be fine, from what I've heard the P50 isn't as picky about RAM as some other systems. As always though, search through the reviews to see if anyone reported any issues with Lenovo systems. And sweet SSD, you should have a good time
