Finally got my hands on the ThinkPad P53 mobile workstation with the NVIDIA Quadro RTX 5000 graphic card and what a monster of a machine. Great machine to work on AutoCAD and Adobe products.

Thanks for your review, I am planning to buy this laptop. Your review really help me to settle my final decision.

Great reviews! Thinkpads since the early 200p0s have always spec out like BMW cars. They may start low price wise but by the time you put basic stuff on it you can easily quadruple the start price and still not be finished with your build. Great machine and solid review. You earned a new subscriber my friend!

Thanks for your effort! Dann, they sent you a beast! First I thought why they did not send you one with 4k screen but when you came to batterie life... You had to glue the charger on because it would have sucked out the battery instantly! But for some reason there is no 4k model reviewed even with lower specs which makes me wondering why... That would be the one I was looking for!

His audio sounds strange at some parts. Like there was too much noise reduction applied or it wasn't EQ'd correctly. Still a great video though.

The other reason people go with thinkpads is it's durability. What is your take on P53's durability? Thank you for taking the time to review it....

it's a solid machine. don't recommend traveling with it to much. this laptop is something I would purchase and leaving it plugged up on the desktop. I feel like it I dropped it and my son accidentally hits the table or wants to imagine his a Power Ranger and kicking everything in sight the laptop will survive the fall. Lenovo does advertise that they test all there ThinkPad with Mil-sec standards.

@@bjtechnewshd thank you for the reply. I have an Alienware area 51m and every time I press on the screen lid, it flexes which scares me. I travel a lot and looking for a durable laptop. I got introduced to Panasonic toughbook via your channel but as you know, it won't replace a workstation given the graphics card it has. I think my best choice is a thinkpad.

@@kanthvinay you can check p1 gen 2, i mean it is not so powerful as this one but it offers better mobility.. i have w540 which is more than 5 years old and since it is very chunky to go out with, i am considering p1 gen 2 or probably will wait for half a year and get p1 gen 3..

I banged the table with it once, or twice, haven't done the drop test yet or the spill test ,in and out of the back back every day for the last 4 months. . Oh I had a blue screen of death for a moment, Windows update issue. It's a bit heavy, fan a bit loud, and battery for 4 k is about 3 hours, and trackpad mprint on screen, finger print magnet, tracked is greased up, dust all over keyboard. But I do want to try to repasting, the temps are in the 80s an 90s when working. But that will be done whenever I decide to clean the dirt/dust off the screen and keyboard. But, So far it is doing it's job alright. No throttling issue I can recall. I'm rambling, but I'm pretty careless with my laptop. I'm kind of surprised I haven't done the drop test yet.

@GateCrashers i think they announced p1 gen 2 in june 2019 but availability with all announced specs took few months, so p1 gen 3 should be announced around the same time this year. Update for you: i actually ended up buying Lenovo yoga c940, different category but serves my purpose..

Thats crazy because my mouse is so much better on my p53, its extremely accurate and the keyboard feels better than my other thinkpads.. I have pushed my p53 and it definitely eats pretty much everything i throw at it. I use it for cad mostly and it renders like a champ..
@bjtechnewshd
@bjtechnewshd 4 года назад
nice, what type of specs do you have on your ThinkPad P53? Intel or Xeon processor? FYI, when I did a reset on the machine to send it back to Lenovo the trackpad was working fine 😂
@CryoftheProphet
@CryoftheProphet 4 года назад
@@bjtechnewshd haha right on, I went with the i9/rtx4000, yeah my other lenovos the mouse feels almost jittery at times, where my p53 is ultra accurate and moves exactly the way I want it. The keyboard seems to feel better and a snappier than my p53s, but my x1 yogo gen 4 feels about on par with the p53. My p53 never really leaves my desk, I bought it as a desktop replacement that 'could' be portable if I needed it to be, so far Ive only taken it on vacation, I have the m14 external usbc display so I can have dual monitors on the go, Its been a great laptop, I did buy a cooling pad that I keep it sitting on pretty much at all times, so heat hasnt really been an issue. Its nice having a laptop that pretty much destroys anything I do in cad haha..
@CryoftheProphet

@@bjtechnewshd PS, Love your videos, I tried to buy a x390 but I bought it with a 10th gen processor and I think their was an error on their website because they cancelled my order and said it was "end of life' which was weird, i really wanted a smaller laptop for dragging around the house, but i ended up going with the x1yoga gen4, same spects basically and the smaller chassis is much welcome over my 15" laptops..
@bjtechnewshd
@bjtechnewshd 4 года назад
Nice. I had AutoCAD 2020 installed but didn’t have a clue on how to use the software. Was able to open an AutoCAD and move around the interior of the house with no lag. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment about your experience on the P53 😁
@CryoftheProphet
@CryoftheProphet 4 года назад
@@bjtechnewshd yeah, cad is more cpu intensive, you would never notice much lag with that processor, but the graphics power really shows in rendering your drawings, something like fusion 360 takes advantage of this quite a bit. Lenovo laptops will be sort of capped as the processors will want to work at their full capacity but due to heat constraints, the cpu will be capped a little, still tho, I think the p53 is one of the most powerful laptops you can get, I have the fhd display with hdr and 500 nits and its really nice, I dont do anything color related so i didnt opt for the 4k display or anything, all in all its a great laptop, Ill probably keep until its replaced with something bigger and better, looking forward to intels newer processors, going to 7nm should yield even more performance.

"When you really are trying hard not to buy a desktop computer and still call it a workstation" I get why some people would want one, I mean it's simply not possible to rival on the laptop end. Likely 2023-2024 mainstream laptops will have horsepower like this... but this is still way overboard in terms of specs... :D

Used one of them for 5 months. It was i7 - 128gb - rtx4000 - 4K touch screen version. Heavy, solid, incredible screen and gpu performance in visuals, noisy fans even set for silence rather than performance, very big charging adapter, frequently disconnects from Wi-Fi, many times blue screen crashes, around once in every month lenovo vantage updates - but you still can not see the CPU temperature, I built several vm clusters from 3 to 10 nodes, i7 can hit 100% very easily and lots of fan noise. Then I sold it, which made me really happy.

The biggest downside with these are the batteries. Replacing these or simply taking a few spares when going somewhere without power outlets becomes a huge hassle. Prefer the P52 batteries you just carry easily and replace in a second or two.

I've had this laptop for half a year with the top end xenon + quadro rtx5000, + oled touch and I'm beyond disappointed. The screen is horrible, the touch layer has a mesh that is clearly visible in front of anything you view (saying its not noticable is bs), the colors distort to to blue and red with the slightest viewing angle, even visible from head on, and most importantly, the screen looks like it has a crappy uneven backlighting even if its OLED. If your screen is not full white or full black, the brightness or value of grey will be inconsistent and have clear horizontal and vertical lines. HDR Causes issues with Windows10 and doesn't play back properly if you have multiple displays connected to your laptop. Lenovo software caused throttling which made the GPU get less than a quarter of the score of a laptop gtx 1060 in Unigine benchmarks. I had to manually test out all possible drivers from nvidia to find ones, not recommended by Lenovo, that were able to bypass the throttling software. The laptop froze once a day if I was afk long enough for it to go to sleep, it would not wake up no matter what and it had to always be hard restarted. I had to disable sleep completely, and even then, the workstation dock causes similar freezes once or twice in a few weeks due to bad drivers and software. On top of all of this, the thing gets absolutely sizzling hot under NO LOAD AT ALL, and has already bent the chassis so that only three of the four feet touch the table surface. There have been loads of refunds going in for the P53 and its taken Lenovo many months to refund any of the Laptops, nor do they address or admit any of these COMMON issues with the P53. There was a huge thread on the Lenovo user forums about the issues and refunds but some of the issue threads have even been removed.
