Lenovo Thinkpad T14s Review - Intel vs AMD | Ryzen 7 Laptop for Programming Students & Tech Pros

The Lenovo ThinkPad T14s AMD is running the AMD Ryzen 7 Pro 4750U Processor with integrated AMD Radeon Vega graphics, while the Intel model is running the 10th Gen Intel Core i5-10310U Processor with integrated Intel graphics. The AMD model has 8 cores and 16 threads while the Intel only has 4 cores and 8 threads. Since they’re both running at a base clock speed of 1.70 GHz, the overall performance difference is noticeable in CPU intensive tasks. They both arrived with 16GBs of DDR4 Ram soldered to the motherboard but the ram inside of the AMD is 3200MHz which is quite a bit faster than the 2667MHz in the Intel version. Also, this AMD model can be configured with up to 32GB of Ram, but the Intel core i5 is stuck at 16GB max. If you want to get more Ram on the Intel processor you’ll need to upgrade to an Intel core i7. If you’re wondering if any of these tech specs truly matter in a laptop for everyday use, well it depends on what you’ll be using these business laptops for. This is a great programming laptop for students and on the go users even if you're working from home. There is even good gaming on a ThinkPad T14s AMD even though this isn't the typical gaming laptop to buy. This is my review and AMD vs Intel comparison.

i miss the times when thinkpads came with two batteries, one onboard and another interchangeble, that was really portability.

AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 4650U has 6 cores with 12 threads. Intel Core i7 10710U and 10810U have 6 cores with 12 threads.

New subscriber here. Excellent review and comparison. I have a small request: can you do a review of the ThinkPad L13 (non-Yoga) because no English channel has done an in-depth review of this particular model and considering it’s one of the cheaper 13 inch ThinkPads available on the market right now, I think a ton of people looking for a thin and light laptop would be interested in a review. Better still: If you could do a comparison of current 13 inch ThinkPads it would be great (something unique). Anyhow, great content!

hi Mchanga! love your clean style of reviews. can you comment about the thermals of the AMD version? coz some reviews say that it gets uncomfortably hot, so it might be a dealbreaker for me :/ thanks!

Hi there Marcus. Thanks so much for your support! In my testing and weeks with the laptop, it never got uncomfortably hot for me. Using it on my desk and my lap, I had no issues but of course depending on the tasks, your mileage may vary.

Lenovo is just forcing people to buy intel one because they still refuse to add thunderbolt to amd model :( that's a deal breaker as with tb you can replace your desktop plugging external gpu to the notebook

Looking for a laptop no more than $500 to run Chrome OS and Linux no windows, ideally with a 2K display what seems to be hard to get, I would have thought in the last 6 years they would be minimum 2K at least doesn't seem to be the case, I don't know why still stuck on 1080p. Any suggestions

I’m getting the T14. I’m just torn bw the 4650U and 4750U. Budget isn’t an issue, I just hope to have it many years but I doubt I’ll need the extra power of the 8 cores, but would it be more future proof? And is there added heat issues and throttling with the 8 core that make it only nominally more powerful than the 6 core under regular conditions? I’m wondering if the 4650U hits the sweet spot since these are limited to only 23w or 15w of power anyways??? The decision is killing me haha...
