Everyone wishes that Lenovo brings back the quality , design and everything about the Old 10-20 series with newer hardware and such , don't make it thin , make it usefull and strong ..
@@CharlieQ7400 when devices were built to last and you could repair them if they broke. For this reason, I decided to buy a t420, if for no other reason than to have a piece of history in my collection. I hope to be able to tinker with it when it arrives.
You know what grinds my gears? People who use a trim tool to take the keyboard out of the think pads.... all you have to do is put both hands flat on the keyboard and slide up. The keyboard will slide out of its notches. Some of these videos I watch it's so painful to see someone spend 3 minutes doing something that takes 3 seconds. Good God lol BUT NONE THE LESS, GREAT VIDEO. Subscribed
completely missed this video over for some reason, but no longer! Thinkpad upgrades always go well when the safety cat is under the desk. 👍 Good job on 500 subscribers.
The cat is the brains behind the operation! Thanks on the subscribers, its been ticking up slowly! managed to hit 500 then it dropped back to 499 for a couple of days hehe!
well done. i owe a T530 myself and had some issues upgrading the 1366 x 768 panel. my goal was a 1080p display but i couldn't get it to work. my guess is the LCD cable needs to be replaced. but i don't have alot of succes finding a HD+ cable. funny thing is, i found a pretty damaged HP probook at work with a 1600 x 900 display at work and i decided to take the screen and try it on my t530. and a little bit to my surprise the panel worked. now i was under the assumption that when your LCD cable supports 1600 x 900 it should also support 1080p. when i put in the 1080p display i see the bios display, i see the white dotted circle from win10 being loaded and then nothing. when i then hook it up to an external monitor i see the panel being recognized as a 1024 x 768 @ 60Hz panel. so i'm damn sure it's a bandwith limitation. if you guys got any idea's or theories i'd like to hear them :)
we found it really hard to get a screenshot or photo that really showed the difference that you feel when using the machine! its pretty hard to capture! it makes it a delight to use!
thanks for this video.. .I've had my t420 for many years now. It's very dependable honestly. I didn't even realize the screen could be changed. I found an LG screen and cable so those are on the way. I made sure it was OEM/genuine. For all this time I've had 4gb of ram and a 300gb harddrive. It was slow. Just popped in another 4gb so 8gb total now, and a 256gb SSD... it's mind blowing why I did not do this sooner. The screen upgrade looks nice. It's a cheap mod so figure why not. Not sure how much better it is going to be honestly though. We'll see.. Great how to. I appreciate that you took out the screen itself. A lof of places sell the screen/bezel and why I bought was just the screen so this video will match up perfectly!
@@Phantom-pj1ls Forgot to update. Yep definitely worth it. In fact I'm on the t420 now writing this..lol I have newer laptops but honestly this is my go to one. It's just the right size, and weight. With those mods it's like a new computer. Still fast. And slightly higher resolution screen made the biggest difference in terms of viewing content without having to scroll everywhere.
@@ensom I can turn my screen almost 90 degrees and still see what's on it. I do believe the viewing angles are better. I am not sure if all upgraded screens are such but the one I got is such an improvement over the lower resolution screen. I'm still using this laptop. Other than the battery not lasting long, it's the perfect size for me. I ended up dumping 16gb of ram in it just because I had it laying around. Just gotta pick up a new battery and I'm good to go.
As of May 2020 is there a 1080p screen upgrade available for the T420 or is the 1600x900 the best were are going to get. When the human race ends...the T400 laps will still be around!
You couldn't reuse the original display cable? That would save you all the hassle of opening up a lot of stuff... Nice upgrade nonetheless, looking forward to the RAM video!
No, unfortunately the hd and hd+ use a different cable. Thanks for the feedback, the extra ram will make all the difference and be interesting to see if the performance memory timings make much difference. It's a shame its going to have to come apart again however!!
In order to replace my old 1366X768 screen for a 1600x900 hd+ in my Lenovo T420, do I need to buy something else beside the screen? Any cable? Any controller? Best regards.
i have lenevo t420 . the problem is that in my laptop is one mosfet is burn and track is damage . its heppens when i insert a short usb . and when i removing it the track line break to me. could you please help me about this.
Is it possible to put a videocard as nvidia geforce, etc at the T420? I have one and did the best for him, 16gb RAM, SSD but i cant run Adobe Afteraffects or something for video editing...
my screen is broke. is there any way to tell which version screen i have? i do have an external monitor but i cant get it to recognize the laptop screen.
I don't have one to hand to test but I believe if you type your machine number into this system it will give you a full spec inc the screen fitted psref.lenovo.com/Search
Hi i know this is a bit late to the party, I clicked on the link to the cable, went to UK and had a bunch of part no.s so which one to get? “ I think I can figure out the screen part. Thanks (In USA)

Should be a final upgrade on my T430, but my X230 came with "Wide viewing angle & High density FlexView Display 1366x768" and I'm trying to rethink the whole plan again.
1600x900 on 14`` screen looks like better then 1440p on my 24`` screen lol.. Hardware Hackers i wanna get this laptop from ebay.. i want to upgrade the ram from 4 to 8 and the cpu from i5 to quad core i7 2630qm oe 2670qm.. also the screen from 720p to 900p.. and the 160gb hdd with 500gb hdd which i have and maybe later with ssd.. would you recommend me doing something different or doing something else??
we looked into an i7 but peoples experience online was that they just run too hot for comfort on these machines! To be honest the little dual core i5 has proved more than enough for our usage when paired with a super fast SSD. The 8gb of ram is definitely a good move, we are still waiting to do ours. and the screen upgrade is FANTASTIC value for money. Feel free to hit us up for any questions you have on the process and feel free to share your progress at facebook.com/HardwareHackers
let us know how you get on, sounds fantastic. as you say the sandy i5, for what we use it for is more than enough but the potential for a real cheap power house with an ivy i7!!
Hi i have a Type 2522 T410, its screen freezes on the start of it it works with vga on my tv in full hd just fine but i want to repait it and use it as a second PC next to my Desktop can anyone help me find a solution or a new panel? thanks.
first it boots up i.imgur.com/b6MluAO.jpg , i.imgur.com/CRgrBXE.jpg then shows something sometimes , i.imgur.com/Kdbdj1d.jpg but begins to freeze and artifacts begin to take over the screen untill its all white
that is an odd one, possibly a faulty screen cable, its pretty easy to check/replace. seems the GPU is working fine if its displaying on an external monitor ok.
Still looks abysmal. The screenshots make it look better than it is. Check out that gamma and unsaturated colors at 6:35 that no amount of color profiling will be able to fix. Of course taking a screenshot and viewing them on an actually good monitor will make it look decent.
The screen is of no worse quality than the Factory fitted unit was, the T420 was never renowned for having a fantastic screen, unlike previous ThinkPads with their IPS panels but as a daily web surfer work horse the LED panel is bright enough, viewing angles are of no issue as its only ever being used at a desk. The purpose of the video was not to show any improvement of screen display quality, hence the use of screenshots (as there was no improvement, however there was no negative trade off either!) The purpose was to show the extra real estate that can be gained from such a swap.
We had a real good look online for you but couldn't find much at all to confirm or deny if it will work or not! We did notice that MOST review sites at the time of release were receiving review models that were fitted with 1600x900 HD+ screens of the same 14.1" screen size - So I would make an educated guess at YES it will be a straight swap if you have a 1366x768 panel currently! Hope this helps :-)
if your super tech savy there are 1080p mod kits on ebay. now if you have a T420s the 1080p mods are very reliable and easy to apply. for the t420 model the 1080p mod kits are much less reliable and may have incompatibilities with bios and hardware.
