I recently bought the T470 again as I’ve previously had one and could run games such as GTA 5, Batman Arkham Origins and even Dead Rising 3 with ease. It’s a really good laptop and I have another arriving tomorrow, backlit keyboard and touch screen, you will not regret getting it
You probably have the 1366x768 HD Panel instead of an IPS 1920x1080. Right click on the desktop>Display Settings>Scroll to Display Resolution. This will tell you the native resolution of the display panel.
Thanks! I am selling the similar ThinkPad T460s if you want to check out that video, you'll find it. As well as the T14, which woule be quite the upgrade from a T420. Just to be clear, I still think the T420 is/was great.
Thank you very much for the tutorial, your videos are very good and easy to understand. Hopefully in the future you be able and want to review the Thinkpad l380 Yoga and the Thinkpad X390 Yoga, since I am very curious how they both hold up today considering that they are Laptops 2 in 1.
This laptop was my Christmas present to myself last year, and I bought it from my local Micro Center. As soon as I got it home, first thing I did was install Linux on it. It's been almost a year now, and it's still going strong. In fact, I'm making this comment with said laptop. And yes, I was lucky to get a unit that had a 1920x1080 display.
Depending on your usage and needs. If its light casual things even with gaming. Thanks to cloud gaming these days even laptops that are not directly made for gaming will be in theory capable of playing newer demanding titles. If you are a more casual type of gamer rather than competitive serious esport type of one. Where even the smallest bit of milliseconds do count. By causal i mean more like its netflix
It might run, but only at lowest settings and lowest resolution. This guy did it, though: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ppfD-AcGlIY.htmlsi=ZunZ3bPQLZBXW4RE
I bought one renewed ThinkPad excellent condition, Everything is good at start, Then 1. in 2 months touchscreen issue 2. Wifi connectivity issue in 3 mnts 3. After 6 mnts, few keyboard keys not working. Bad purchase...
What can you expect from a renewed version. Plus think pad is really old now. I'm using one for like 8 years now . But it can run genshin impact on like mid-low mixture settings with 30-45 fps. Tbh it's not a bad laptop for a renewed the only thing needed is a keyboard and a mouse cause tbh my keyboard and the touch pad are dead 😢😢
Hello brother! You did an excellent video here! You proved that a machine like this can still have plenty of use in 2024. I was wondering if you know a method for unlocking the bios in the t470. I just bought one but it came with the bios locked😢. Thank you much appreciated
Just checking, there's a password required to enter BIOS? Or does it ask for a password before boot to the operating system? Can you reach out to the seller to ask them if they have the password?
@@HaisteComputerRepair it does boot to windows 10. But the access to the bios functionality is under password protection. Unfortunately it's impossible for me to get the password.😔
@@juanjofre4807That is unfortunate, if the seller set it up and did not remove it before selling, or if it was from an organization or business. If it's just BIOS password, try disconnecting all batteries, locate the CMOS battery on the motherboard, disconnect that, and leave it unplugged for a few minutes before plugging it back in and booting back on. Let me know if this works.
If I buy this will it be a problem for windows 11 cause 7 gen is not supported on windows 11 I have 2 options t470s i5 7 gen or 5490 dell latitude i5 8 gen these comes in my budget I have read reviews about battery issues in 5490 Which one should I choose
Well, if it has the wrong battery I doubt it would either fit or work with the system. Is this the case or is your battery perhaps a third party battery?
@@jJ-xp7ofThat feature died out after the 40 series thinkpads unfortunately. Or fortunately, depending on who you talk to. USB optical drives are pretty cheap though.
Hi could you please clarify couple of my doubts on this laptop 1) I have a thinkpd t470 i5 7th gen moded in which I want to upgrade its hdd to nvme ssd of gen4 I am curious to if the caddy adapter compatable to gen 4 nvme ssd and will get the rated speed of 4GB/S on this system. I am talking about the Western Digital WD Blue SN580 NVMe 1TB ssd. And what is the maximum speed that I should expect from this laptop. 2) What is that yellow watch cell like thing at the corner of the motherboard. Should we replace it or how do we judge when to replace that thing wrapped in some yellow sheet. --> Please answer my questions I going mad searching these things in youtube. I watched all your videos on thinkpad t470 they were really good and informative and much better than any other video that I saw .
1)T470 is capable of M.2 SSD / PCIe NVMe, PCIe 3.0 x 2, 16Gb/s. Check out the product specs here: psref.lenovo.com/syspool/Sys/PDF/ThinkPad/ThinkPad_T470/ThinkPad_T470_Spec.PDF 2)That is the CMOS battery, only needing to be replaced when it is dead. If your laptop is working fine, it's all good.
Could you recommend me an adapter for it please tell me the name of the adapter and place to buy. I am really thankfull for your quick and informative responce I wish your channel to succeed in future, by providing such professional and detained reviews
@@abhiramr3283A power adapter? You can try ebay or Amazon. I could even ship you a third party adapter if it doesn't cost too much to ship to where you are.
Hi Mate, I have a Toshiba z30-1-af model i5 6200u, 8gb ddr3 ram, 720p resolution and it’s fast enough for my work I need to do on it but the screen is awful, the text etc look shocking in 720p and the screen is 13 inches ,, would this laptop be better? The one I can get for a decent price is the i5-7300U, 8gb ram, 512gb ssd, 14 inch windows 10 version
@@HaisteComputerRepair Thanks for the speedy reply, no I haven’t but I’ve seen a hp 450 g7 15”6 full hd display laptop with an i5-10210u 8gb ram 256 ssd for just less than 200 ,,, would you recommend that laptop? I’m guessing it’s a lot better than the one I have lol
Hello brother I recently but lenovo t470 core i5 6300u But i found that when i play youtube 1080p 60 fps video my video feels laggy and aldo do circular loading aslo my interned connection is good. Yesterday i checked my taskbar manager to check his performance is saw there mostly only one youtube tab and full hd 60 fps video my cpu hits on 100% and mostly vary 90 to 100
@@HaisteComputerRepair no bro i have installed fresh window and only installed some basic software ms office, vs code e.t.c, and when played youtube video on chrome, edge browser in 60 fps I feel lags jtter in videos, I checked through task manager my CPU mostly goes 100% 8 GB ddr4 ram 256 gb NvMe ssd
also 2.4ghz (2400mhz) and its the same model: i5-6300U CPU please tell me if i can run gta 5 with low settings at atleast 30 fps or so and be able to play in rp servers at that similar framerate or just gta 5 itself atleast.
@@ionknowwfs upping to 16GB would help if possible. Honestly, GTA V will run on low resolution and low settings, but whether you want to realistically play the game like that is totally up to you. If you already own the game, go for it. If you still have to purchase it, maybe save up for a laptop with higher specs.
Hi, so I play a lot of games on steam and sometimes games like cs go, lag too much, so i was wondering if there is any way to improve my computers performance or something on settings that could help the game to not lag.
Outside of making sure you have an SSD and at least 16GB RAM installed, you can only hope to adjust in game resolution and put settings down low for games like Counter Strike
I also use T470 with i5 7200u 8Gb ram confifuration however it is not fast as I want. I closed all apps and stuffes work in background but still waiting for the youtube loading. It is less than a second but disgusting for me if I upgrade to 16 Gb of ram will be better or it is the limit of processor? thank u
As long as it looks to be in good condition and has the configuration you want, go for either one. If refurbished means the keyboard and touchpad aren't all worn out (vanity wise) then perhaps that is the better choice.
@@HaisteComputerRepairIs this computer good for music production? I look at the T480s and the T480 they have quad cores but I’m just curious which one is better?
@@LucrativecrisIf the choice is between the T470 and the T480 (or T480s), go with the T480(s) options. I would say do some research on the software you are wanting to use and what laptops/desktop PC's people are using.
hello, i have recently fetched this laptop from my dad's when he was working with it for multiple years and for some reason when i try to launch a game like tf2 for example, the fps drops and it becomes slow. I have changed it on the game settings, put everything as low yet it remains the same... even on simple games like roblox. is there something i can do about it??
Im looking for a laptop under $200. I found this laptop refurbished at that price. Also theres a lot of new laptops under $200 but they all seem to have an intel celeron. Which one would you recommend?
Definitely do not go with the Intel Celeron CPU. It's just not worth it. Any ThinkPad with at least 16GB RAM, an SSD, and a 2 core 4 thread CPU will perform much better. T480 is where you start seeing 4 core 8 thread i5 CPU's.
Hello! In theory, you could use the usb c thunderbolt port to connect an egpu right? Im looking to sell my actual thinkpad and buy this one or similar.
Absolutely. You could run Linux or install Windows 11 after bypassing the TPM 2.0 requirement. The hardware is good, just the restrictions put in place by Microsoft have been instated under their assumption that end users benefit from TPM 2.0 Security features, which are largely an option for users, not a requirement to operate.
My T470 does not turn on all the way! when I turn it off even using the windows start /power options. It acts as if its turning off and the screen goes off but stays on and I have to press and hold the power for about 5 sec to turn it off of take off the battery. If i dont do that the PC wont come back on even if I press and hold the power
Think of this laptop as more business class. There is only integrated graphics from the CPU, which would not perform very well with games like that. You could always try it out, but I wouldn't buy a T470 to play games like that.
@@gamingnesia5317 Unless you get lucky, you need somewhere in the realm of $400+ to get a gaming laptop or a laptop with a dedicated GPU. Try looking for a ThinkPad P50, P51, and P52 with a 4 GB GDDR5 Quadro GPU for something cheaper than a gaming laptop. I reviewed these laptops in my videos.
On low settings and lowered resolution it might be playable, but I wouldn't expect it to be that great unless you have a T470 with the NVIDIA 940MX discrete GPU
There are differences that could be negligible or important depending on what you need.
