Thank you for your video there are so few videos about the t530 Lenovo.

You're welcome. They don't seem to be anywhere near as popular as the T430. Wonder how they sold when new?
@vladyarotsky5287

You can install this thing into almost any computer featuring optical disk, even those with slot drives. No hot swap functionality usually though. Also blue stuff is the protective film that you are supposed to remove before use. Also prior to this you could use the bay for variety of things including LPT+COM on some models - T500/T400 IIRC, mentioned battery, even numpad on thirty something series and more.

Yeah the Ultrabay is an idea that I wish was still around. So much versitility.

thanks for the video. i have a good condition T430 and an 'okay' condition T420s. the ultrabay adapters are also on eBay for similar prices (depending on which ultrabay form-factor you have). and of course all eBay sales are guaranteed/protected.

Hi quick question for you. If i take out the CD Drive and use the ultrabay to add a second SSD would i need to format the SSD to use or would i be able to use it as storage as soon as i insert it in the bay.
@LaptopRetrospective
@LaptopRetrospective 3 года назад
Depends on the operating system and how the drive was formatted from the factory. If you did need to format it, it would still be pretty effortlessly.

Any idea if the ultrabay battery will work with the x220 using the ultrabase 3 dock?
@LaptopRetrospective
@LaptopRetrospective 2 года назад
I'm almost entirely certain the answer would be no. Considering the base doesn't work unless it is plugged in, it would make it entirely pointless.
@IloveFrytkasy
@IloveFrytkasy 2 года назад
@@LaptopRetrospective I was under the same impression but it definitely doesn't need to be plugged in to work. At that point though it'd make more sense to get a slice battery (provided I can find one)

What else can you add to that ultrabay? Another battery perhaps?
@LaptopRetrospective
@LaptopRetrospective 5 лет назад
Only SATA things. So no battery. At least nine that I've seen.
@dUDEpERSON367
@dUDEpERSON367 5 лет назад
the battery only works in s models (t430s 420s...) and the t400 as far as i know. Older ones, i'm not so sure. But considering the price to capacity ratio of an ultrabay battery, it's better to get a second 9 cell, and turn the laptop off when swapping.

Screw an external drive... I'd sooner keep my ultra-bays internal option in my laptop bag. I have the HDD adapter for the T-420, though I do not use it. I have a SATA III 240GB in my main HDD bay on SIII, and a SIII on SII in the WWAN slot (also 240GB). Then they run in RAID as to combine storage space and speed... Combining the space for convenience, and speed to make up for (though it's hardly needed) the SIII on SII situation. I don't mind the idea of keeping a drive in the ultra-bay, but I usually just use drives that way via eSata... as it's powered and the same speeds as internal for the most part. Less to do vs that of swapping out the Ubay. Now, with that said... I envy the ThinkPad models that have Ultra-bay GPU options, which vent right out the side. They are absolutely brilliant. I mean, MXM is one thing. But that has to mate up to a systems cooling, rendering some upgrades impossible. Even when white-lists aren't present... But with an ultra-bay option, you can just pop a GPU in like a damn CD drive, or SSD. I mean. That should be a standard. Just something that gains ubiquity all around. But of course, as it makes perfect sense, it will NEVER happen. It will stick to one tiny line of one tiny line of one manufacturers product. ehhhhhh.
@LaptopRetrospective
@LaptopRetrospective 5 лет назад
First time I've heard of a GPU Ultrabay option. Not surprised but can you tell me more?
@Dex99SS
@Dex99SS 5 лет назад
@@LaptopRetrospective It may actually just be limited to the Lenovo IdeaPad Y510p. Not sure if it extends beyond that or not. I know that there are videos showing what the various Ubay GPU upgrades bring with them, performance wise. There is one with an individual playing Witcher 3 @ 4k Ultra settings with a Vega 56 Ubay GPU doing the work... Averaging some 45fps or so. Pretty impressive. And again, it just makes SO MUCH SENSE. Sadly though, it will likley begin and end with that model, or at best become an IdeaPad standard. What magic it would be if the Ubay had ubiquity like PCMCIA did back in the day! Though, even expresscard had that opportunity, and it didn't really happen there even. But a direct high speed connection to the CPU via PCIE lanes from Ubay, as well as a SATA III interface, just makes sense... and this should be on all things.

I'm guessing here but there might be an issue with the T430 and Windows 11 not playing nice with each other since it wouldn't be officially supported or tested. I'd be tempted to try a Linux Live USB to see if it works there.
