Yay. I bought the 2018 model with the HDR dolby display because of you, Andrew. Thanks a lot! The speakers improvement is really a nice touch, although I really don't dislike mine, they could indeed be better. Overall, It surpassed all my expectations, it's an incredibly good daily-driver. Battery life is pretty good for me. It didn't disappoint at all.
I got the i7 with 16 gb RAM and 512 gb SSD for $1,300 from Costco...amazing machine. I was worried about thermals, but AIDA 64 can’t get it to thermal throttle (except at the very beginning before the fan spins up). Stable at 75-85 degrees after 25 min at 100% CPU, hovers around 2.5 GHz. Fan is practically silent at 5,000 RPM. Has no problem running an Ubuntu VM in Hyper-V, was able to do software updates on both OS at the same time today with no stuttering or lag on host or client. Pretty awesome!
Best Laptop ive ever used. (the 1080p version that is). Solid performance, great battery life, fantastic keyboard (really important, i have to type alot). The built in ports, together with the dongle Lenovo sells for a couple bucks, get you surprisingly good connectivity and the soft touch coating just feels amazing. Only bummer is the soldered on RAM, so consider the 16 gig model. Other than that, its a fantastic device and as an administrator you'll totally love this thing. As far as ultraportables for work go, this is it. Bonus points for offering it with Linux. Great job Lenovo, kudos to that!
Excellent Review Andrew!!!. What I really like is when you provide added information like what the average nit count is----> This is what sets you apart from everyone else and another reason why we subscribe to you!.
Full hd, because of battery life. It still doesn't compare with the Dell xps line you recently reviewed though. I believe I will be more seriously considering my new Windows laptop according to battery life, screen size, touch screen, Windows Ink, and must have backlit keyboard for me. Oh, and price. I will have to do a great deal of searching around to stay within my under $1k price range. Lower would be even better, but I want something that will last and something I will use. If I am going to be jumping into the Windows eco system, I may as well try to get as many boxes checked as possible for the least amount of money possible. I know you will have videos out there that will help me make a smart decision as well as an affordable one. You are the best reviewer by far young man. And you speak my language - semi technical!
Hi Andrew, I actually think X1 carbon gen6 2k is better than the 4k model. The previous year's 2k model has better brightness, amazing gamut, and Delta-E. At the same time, it has better battery life. Gen 7 has a better speaker but I don't think it worth the money. Intel 10th generation CPU is also coming soon. Is it better to wait for the next X1 Carbon? What do you think? Thanks
Why do none of the reviews include the fact that the keyboard is mil-spec'ed and spill proof? I don't care about gaming or video editing. I wanted a powerful, light weight business machine with long battery life. It gave me what I wanted with 16GB of ram being maxed and the Whislkey Lake I7. No complaints at all. Love the light weight.
why nobody speaks about that WQHD screen? I would rather go for FHD for that double battery life, but coming from Retina world, it kinda scares me. So maybe WQHD would be the sweet spot? anybody knows how it compares to FHD? all in all, a great review!
Justin Breton, “not that bad” after switching from retina might be terrible. Thats why i think WQHD might be a good choice... but nowhere to find info on battery life with wqhd......
@@HumoraraS I owned X1C 7 with WQHD (2K) screen. Battery lasts only 5.5 hours with very light load (Chrome 3- 5 tabs and Outlook client). The machine went back to Lenovo. I need a laptop which last full working office day (8+ hr is my benchmark). I also had 4K screen. In real life scenario it lasts 4 hrs.
Only 93%, Andrew you are 'bad boy'. Just kidding, I have X1 Carbon 6th GEN and love it, I give it 99%; so GEN7 should be minimum 222%. Seriously, thank you so much for not only informing but also for educating all visitors to your awesome channel.
Haha, was just watching ur review of the 6th gen after purchasing the X1 tablet, coincidence? maybe, but I am definitely gonna watch this review too :D
I’d like to see a review of the 2nd gen extreme and P1 to find out if sound is better despite no top speakers and if heat management is better. Also I understand key travel is less on new x1, is it also less on extreme 2nd gen and P1 second gen
Hello Andrew, thanks for the excellent review. Much has been said about the X1C7's keyboard in comparison to its predecessor ie less key travel which apparently is affecting the overall feel good factor in using the new keyboard. I would love to hear your thoughts on this. Thanks
@@alphabetamusic7 The "reviewer" said "it has the legendary ThinkPad keyboard", which sounds like a marketing statement. This is not an objective review.
Great reviews! I’m stuck on which Lenovo laptop to get to edit my RU-vid videos. I record off of my phone and camera. Which would be better: X1 Carbon Gen 7 or Thinkpad x390 ... or is there a much better preference?
Since I'm waiting and pre-ordered the XPS13 2 in 1, and was stuck between this X1 and the XPS13, what is your opinion about these two laptops? I noticed that that XPS13 actually scored higher in the GeekBench testing, and it's got better Graphics card. I asked myself: why should you buy an older version of CPU, which is the X1? Really like to know your opinion about this.
In India, the *base model X1 Carbon 7th gen* runs for $2100 and *MacBook pro 13" 2019 256GB* for $1,650. My workflow pretty much revolves around chrome with 10 tabs, vscode and Photoshop. Which one should i pick?
@Sam S9 If you're from Europe then the prices will be relatively same as compared to India. Honestly at this point I'm thinking of going on with MacBook, because i use windows for adobe softwares only and main os is Ubuntu. MacOS will be a sweet spot.
@Sam S9 True, I'm about to move to EU soon for education in CS and from what i know most of the professors use ThinkPad and MacBook, I'm sure I'll go with MacBook as of now. Do let me know what you went for after making any purchase.
@Sam S9 Wow thankyou for the insight, with lots of reviewers recommending 16gb ram i was bit skeptical. Will definitely pick the base model 256 now with a Samsung T5 external ssd.
Looking to buy a new ThinkPad X1 Yoga now. And I'm completely towing between the full HD or the 4K screen. The battery life is such a big factor, what to do...
At the 4:38 mark you claim the UHD 4K display is anti-glare. That's not true it's a glossy display and I've seen other reviews where reflections from lights makes the screen really hard to read/see.
Could the light of the Windows behind you change the quality of the front facing camera when you recorded the camera test? It had to much light... Also the video is Nice, i liked it and you are allways improving, but i had a hard time reading the labels of the 4k display when you were reviewing it. Now the fhd labels were perfect. Keep up the good work.
i watched all your review abt thinkpad T490, T490s and x1 7gen, x390 and i cant decide which one suitable for me :D haha i dont play game, but i do some 2D graphic designer( photoshop, lightroom .. ) May i ask which one was suitable for my certain job. Sincerely Thanks :D very detailed reivew
Lenovo's website says it glossy finished and you said 4:37 that it is anti-glare. Which is it, please? If you look at your 8:07 mark you can clearly see the reflection/glare on the screen when the unit was turned off.
Hello Andrew! One question, if I change the resolution in the 4K display to a FHD in Windows Settings, will battery life last as long as the FHD display??? (Just in case I need that extra battery life for special occasions). THANK YOU!!! Hope you get to those 100K subscribers soon!!! Best!
@@andrewmarcdavid another question. I am about to buy a new ultrabook. I currently have a maxed out Dell XPS 13 9360, which one would be better option, the Dell XPS 13 9300 or the Lenovo X1 Carbon 7th Gen, both with Core i7 10th gen processors??
Wish they'd stop putting the headphone jack on left side recently, though! There's no room for my hand AND my external 1 inch speaker on that side! Plenty on right where they used to put it (one of biggest reasons I'm going for 2018 model, lol)!
I thought about it and got the 400 nit one. It just depends on what you value more: battery life and brightness or touchscreen. I didn’t need a touchscreen so I went for the 400 nit one
This thing has 4 micros and the sound result is what you get at 7:00 demo, are you kidding me?? Also you need a dongle to use the good ass ETHERNET.. What else.. seeing how much issues I get over the usb3 connector over time I wonder how long this slim power plug will be usable before it start to give false contact and random disconnections.
Absolutely my most favorite review, thanks Andrew! Lenovo X1C7 is absolutely no doubt the best PC built in the world, but comes with Windows OS is a degradation in its value(e.g. fan noise, sleep overnight battery drain, self-reboot/update, no reliable backup & recovery software, privacy). So it would be perfect, if Lenovo hardware + macOS. BTW: would be nice if you could have demonstrated the sound quality of Dolby ATOMS comparing to previous model or non-ATMOS model. Best regards
hi Andrew just suscribe cause I like ur reviews.. I want to buy a new laptop where main concerns are battery life least 10 or more and weight..... I like this fhd option thanked, but why haven't u review yet for ex. the 2019 lg gram series...I was lookin at couldn't find none ...been z990 series in 13 14 15 17? even with touch screen....still wondering why....? saludos from Chile
Hello Andrew, watch few of your series already, they are quite interesting. Would like to know whicj laptop would you prefer in a comparibetwrrn lattitude 7400 or 2in 1 and this lenovo x1 carbon 7th generation?i am checking on prices in Amazon and obviously watching more reviews specifically about battery life but a suggestion from you would be a great help and stimule. Thanks
hi I just got my carbon gen 7 FHD with privacy filter, but it looks a little yellow tint. Wonder if you have the same problem, or it's not a problem; it's just the display like that. Coz comparing with my mac, it's very yellow tint. Or It's because of the privacy filter? Appreciate your response.
Why so many RU-vidrs make advertising for such key shops. The Keys are probably working but they are probably also against the terms of use, like volume keys. Otherwise this couldn't be real or they would loose money. So: Dislike the Video, RU-vidrs stop making people use illegal websites!
Hi there, I am debating between the lenovo yoga 730 i5 ,13.3, 8gb ram, 256 ssd on sale for 550 or the x1 7th gen i7, 16gb ram, 512 ssd on sale for 1300... any advice?
