The ThinkPad X1 Carbon is a fantastic piece of hardware. Lenovo has done a lot in creating this superlight and durable Ultrabook. The X1 carbon brings a new level of quality to the ThinkPad legacy of high standards and innovation. It starts with the durable, carbon fiber-reinforced roll cage, making for the best Ultrabook construction available, and adds a host of other new features on top of the old favorites. Carbon fiber top cover and roll cage -- as strong as aluminum at 1/3 the weight. it also boost Lenovo's RapidCharge, for five hours' battery life on a 35-minute charge, which is fantastic for a commuter or someone on the go. The webcam comes with face-tracking 720p HD webcam, dual-array microphones, and keyboard noise suppression. You have got a fingerprint reader, TPM and BIOS encryption, for advanced security.
In terms of specs you have got up to 3rd generation Intel® Core™ i7, up to 256GB of SSD, up to 8GB ram, Dolby Home Theater v4 and Intel HD 4000 integrated graphics, for rich sound and vision. Ports include one each of USB 3.0 SuperSpeed, always-on USB 2.0, Mini DisplayPort with audio, and 4-in-1 SD Card reader with a Glass multi-gesture touchpad and backlit keyboard. Plus you also have shared connectivity with Mobile Hotspot technology.
The ThinkPad X1 Carbon tested here in this review, packs a core i7 vPro processor, 4GB of ram and 256GB SSD. It handled work load masterfully with the ability to render a 5 min video in 3mins. SSD had great response time in a sec load time from sleep. Rapid charge is another great feature, that really adds a great element to the X1 Carbon. Allowing you to quickly charge on the go, helping optimize time and functionality. Though quoted battery life is stated at 8hrs, with the build I eked out 5hrs 30mins with full use. the best way to describe the Thinkpad X1 carbon, is truly a sum of all part. The full combination of design and functionality crafted by Lenovo, sets this apart as the best Ultrabook on the market, in my opinion and bearer of a new gold standard in computing. I've setup three of the X1 Carbons and one of the X1 Carbon Touch over the past month. I liked them so much I bought one for myself, it's unbelievable how light yet extremely well built and powerful these machines are; feels like a Powerful Desktop in a ultra form factor. I'd highly recommend purchasing one for any purpose. Oh, one thing I think may not have been mention is they do have true encrypted finger print security. I've owned 7 or 8 Thinkpad going back to 2000 and these are the best

I appreciate your feedback and insights on this- Do you have any updates on what apps it came shipped with for the almost 2K price. you indicate that the heat increased when working with video, do you hear the fan noise (this is a deal-breaker for my purchased decision if the fan runs loud as it does on the HP Envy line).

I have one of these. Got it for my travels to India. One fine laptop. Nothing I can think of negatively. I'm a programmer and architect by profession and this does everything I need. It all depends on the specs you get. I have the i7 with 256 ssd and 8gb ram. If you have the money for it, I highly recommend it.

get, I just bought it 2 days ago, the i7 model. However, my battery after charging over 15 hours still only yields 3 hours of battery time. Are you having any issues with battery life? Any info would be appreciated, Thanks.

very nice video. i am torn between the i7-4Gig and the i5-8Gig, since the i7 does not come 8Gig. For almost the same price, i am leaning toward the i5. I plan to max this baby out with Acrobat CS6.let me know what you think.

Directly from Lenovo on their website. They have a really good student discount, but they give coupon codes often too (you get a 10% off on your first order, if you wait they do bigger ones). Although I've heard due to demand they stopped offering discounts in some regions a week or 2 after it came out, so you might need to wait a little while to get it cheap.

This is the 1st gen X1 Carbon. 14 inches. I'd say, depends on the game. On low settings, maybe. Maybe some light music or photo work.

Great review - however, describing the keyboard layout as a Traditional Thinkpad layout - might be a bit controversial! There are some die hard thinkpad fans out there who would vehemently disagree :)

Yep. I've got a CHF 500.- Student discount :D. 1800.- instead of 2300.- . But I'm still waiting to be shipped... takes like forever... But Its really worth the money. I've already tested it and no other Ultrabook comes even close to this build quality. Especially the keyboard and trackpad is amazing!

x1 is ultrabook ( speed ssd and it is ultra light and mobile) and y510p is ultra super extra high extreme gaming machine and great for entertaiment and all kinds of work. its not that light . and batterly life is not that great. but in y510p is haswell cpu that extends baterry life. in y510p is also dedicated video card nvidia 750m with ddr5 video memory ,mabey there are two 750m video cards. sry for my bad english .

Vaio Z starts at $1600, I paid $1,100 for the X1C after tax. Granted Lenovo offers massive discounts but the starting price is still lower without them. And I've never used a Vaio Z, but most of the other Vaios I've used have nowhere near the build quality of Thinkpads.

@@ensi1645 you can find it for lower prices i guess but battery lasts only for 1 hour. so in 7 years battery almost dead . because i am now using 2012 i7vpro with touch screen 256gb ssd. battery should be around 4 hours if you can find a new battery. I am living in a 3rd world country so it was good price for me.
