The bottom cover of the X1 yoga looks very soft. It shows a big flex when being pressed. This is completely different from the T450s which has magnesium alloy bottom cover solid as rock.
What about Linux drivers for all the fancy stuff, like lift&lock, pen, fingerprint scanner? Thinkpad users tend to actually use linux, why the hell isn't there a single review that would cover this area?
Your reviews get better and better man, keep it up. Also, I've been watching your videos for months but I haven't subscribed yet....what's wrong with me? haha
Thanks for the review. I'm probably getting the i5, pci-e ssd, FHD. Guess it's the optimal configuration regarding battery life, but not really sure how much of a different would it make from a same configuration QHD? Also considering getting the Thinkpad Yoga 460 instead, seems better value for money. Did you had the chance to compare both? Any recommendation?
like light gaming, like League of Legends, 11.6 inch laptop or less, want fps higher then 60 if possible on high settings, and great for word proccessing
Thank you for the great review~! As someone pointed out below the screen shows some flickering due to PWM in the video, which hurts eyes of sensitive people. Is it possible to show the screen from 100% to 0% brightness to check low frequency PWM? The camera will capture the low frequency PWM in lowered brightness.
Recently got the X1 Yoga and while I love the laptop, the one thing I cannot stand is the residue from fingerprints that left on the casing as well as the trackpad and keyboard. It’s much worse on the casing and the keyboard. Looks like I have been eating fried chicken or potato chips when using it. Has to be wiped down quite a bit. Is this a laptop you own or they supplied you for review? How long you had it? Suggestions?
Thank you for the video, I been considering buying this one and ur video was nicely detailed. I already bought the Hp spectre x360 copper edition which I do like especially the long battery life but I been considered changing it to the x1 because I don't like the pen quality that much on the HP and I have to leave thr screen on 80-90% of brightness most of the time, can I get ur opinion on it
hi. super review!! i am a thinkpad owner... and i wont to buy this new model. It's a good machine for ps , ai and rhinoceros lite use? the hd grapichs and the gb of ram are right for this use?
Hello man, I've seen that the old X1 has a matte screen protector on it, to make the screen not glossy. Is that one has the same screen protector or is it matte without screen protector ? Thank you
+Zachary Sandberg exactly what I thought. Thinkpads pass through military grade tests to withstand temperature, shock, drops etc so I was surprised when he said plastic.
+Zachary Sandberg lol maybe they used plastic on some X1s. Anyway I'm waiting for the release of the Wacom bamboo smart, it's a better pen compared to the ThinkPad Pen Pro.
hmm this or build another dope gaming desktop? What motherboard does it use and why have qhd at 14in screen? The specs and build are decent but how do you justify the price other than appealing to the apple market?
+Ben Lane Thinkpad is not a gaming laptop. No point in comparing. The specs including the QHD (not qhd) is now replacing 1080p for the convertible laptop market. All convertibles are around this price. Check out Surface Pro / Book and other convertible laptops . It can convert to a tablet, has touchscreen and an active pen input. It's light and very sturdy with one of the best and splash-proof keyboards. Bluestack will also get android apps on there. This is very appealing not only to Apple market, but also users who find those things useful. It's the new standard, every manufacturers have been pushing out convertible laptops for a while.
I didn't compare the specs of a gaming laptoptop to this laptop. But the price of this laptop equals what I can spend to build a complete great gaming desktop. There is always a reason to compare all specs of all computers to each other to get an understanding of cost and what one person is willing to spend on a single device. Not to say a laptop is the same thing as a gaming desktop but its about what the components of each cost. mobo, ram, cpu, psu, gpu, cooling, case, monitor, keyboard and mouse. I have a surface pro and a lenovo ultrabook for work purposes. I'm only considering my opinion and what I find valuable about the laptop not what someone else might like about it. The qhd screen looks great but at that size its a way to push the price up along with the 2-in-1 capability which is useful for some users. Its still just a computer.
+Ben Lane "I didn't compare the specs of a gaming laptop to this laptop. But the price of this laptop equals what I can spend to build a complete great gaming desktop." It sounds like comparing to me. But I think I know where you're getting at now ;) Still, things are expensive in a relatively new market and it's normal. The price is simply justified by what is and is not on the market. Yes QHD definitely pushes up the price even further, but that's not really a problem since Lenovo is offering a model with cheaper Full HD as well. I think it's SSD that pushes the price tag up on ultrabook, especially the PCie ones.
+민윤기 its not available in Canada also but some parts of the world have that option. It should be available in the coming months. I ordered my laptop without 4G LTE but I believe it's possible to buy and install the LTE card later on.
X1 Yoga is NOT worth the money due to following reasons which is not expected in a high end laptop like this. My recommendation would be to search for some other laptop: - Display driver crashes and recovers which leads to a freeze of the screen for about 1.5 seconds. 5 to 10 times in a week. - Touch does not work when the laptop screen is opened, have to use the pen. Work around- close and open the laptop. Very bad for such a costly laptop. This happens very often on a daily basis. - HDMI does not work, have to use an HDMI to VGA port converter! There does not seem to be a solution for this, searched a lot online. - Huawei MB module does not boot up due to some reason at times, I have to manually enable/disable the adapter from Device Management. - Laptop freezes completely, requiring a hard reboot. This happens 2 to 3 times in a week. Too bad for such a costly laptop. - Disconnects from WiFi for no reason (even if the signal strength is good). NOT the Thinkpad quality that is expected. I am a big Lenovo fan, but looks like I need to find alternative. I feel that Samsung Slate was way too and better than X1 Yoga good in terms of stability with just 4GB RAM and running Win7/8. Note: I have used Lenovo T440P @ 7200 RPM HD which was way way better than this laptop in terms of stability. Anyone, if you know of solutions for above problem, please do let me know.
+SOG989 To clarify, I bought the x1 yoga with the sata 3 hard drive. Can I install a m.2 PCIe-NVMe drive in addition to the sata 3 or does it replace the sata 3 drive?
sure is an expensive toy for something that only puts out 280 nits of screen brightness. Be careful not to open the shades or go outside because you won't be able to see the screen. That's one of the lowest I've seen yet.
Ive better than macbook aire. I ve Macbook pro retina 2014 a screen is verry nice. And i use carbon x1 2016 4eme believe me the screen is fantastic. I dont feel a difference with the apple. And the x1 is verry nice
Macbook air? You can't be serious, it's a cheap, low res, non touch TN panel. You'd have a hard time finding such a cheap screen on any ultrabook today, most, if not all, are IPS and 1080p and up.
