I got the yoga 12 new in 2015 and it’s still my daily laptop. It has survived me landing on it while it was in my backpack while skateboarding, and countless other knocks. Never an issue! Will have to upgrade soon for my photography hobby, but I’ve certainly gotten my money’s worth.

I thought I already commented, apparently not. Your video seals the deal for me. I needed some sort of laptop/tablet with stylus support and been interested in buying at least one good thinkpad device (sadly, I only invested in Ideapad previously). The newer versions are too expensive for me so I'm looking out for old Thinkpad models that covers my requirement and tolerable to deal with (budget, upgradability , and form-factor) Thank you for the review, I'm now a three-weeks old happy Thinkpad Yoga 12 (refurbished) owner.

I still use a Thinkpad Yoga 12 as one of my many Thinkpad laptops. The CPU isn't that great but plopping an SSD made it usable for light workloads. I just don't use it much anymore since it becomes sluggish when I try to edit photos
@LaptopRetrospective
@LaptopRetrospective 3 года назад
Yeah that SSD upgrade is a must.

I have the Yoga 260. I got it after being an x201 and x201t user. While the yoga obviously is lighter, thinner and has several more years of cpu power on it, the x series tablet convertibles felt better to draw with. First, I don't have to worry about sliding the machine around because the bottom is still the bottom on the x series, while on the yoga its the keyboard face/ palm rest. The yoga has less grip as a result of that as well. Second, The yoga is almost too thin. The x series, especially with the extended battery, provided more to handle the machine with while the yoga has you grabbing the bezel a lot which might cause touch input you don't want. The yoga does seem to have more friction with the pen strokes but I think I even liked the friction less gliding that the x series had. That said, I'd take the yoga over anything non Thinkpad in the same category.
@LaptopRetrospective
@LaptopRetrospective Год назад
Fair assessment. The twist and fold era of machines had some clear advantages for serious computer tablet work. I think the fold around 2 in 1 was an effort to get more people interested in the concept and by in large, it seems to be the more popular method. I definitely agree with you on taking a Yoga over a competitor product; they've been doing it for longer and I get the sense looking inside they know what they're doing.

I bought the Yoga 12 S2 refurb. It was a lease return, and I don't think the original user did much with it. It cost me more than $300 cad I'm afraid, but I'm pretty sure it had a new battery installed. I put an ssd in it, and it boots Windows 10 in 10 seconds. All in all, it's a pretty responsive little guy, great for travel. So I bought my wife a refurbed T510, mint condition for $300, not so portable, but a good desktop replacement, and she's no gamer. It's built like a tank, and would make a great battering ram if you needed to break down a door. I would hate to get hit over the head with it, so it's good security against home invaders too. I love these old business machines; they're so well built.

The Yoga form factor is one positive that Lenovo gave to ThinkPads! It's a lot better than the swivelling X2xx Tablets. Not sure if they kept the lock/lift or wave keyboard in the latest generations, though. My sister bought an X1 Yoga 4th, but I haven't seen it yet.
@LaptopRetrospective
@LaptopRetrospective 3 года назад

Got a hold of my sisters X1 Yoga. It's actually a 5th Gen. Yeah, the keyboard keys don't lock, and they also removed the rubber feet/bumper on the keyboard deck. The aluminum top case does feel very nice, though, with the screen slotting into the lid, as opposed to the screen fitting "on top" of the carbon/plastic lids. I wouldn't mind Lenovo going with an aluminum lid for the other premium models, provided it's black.
@LaptopRetrospective

Ahh I see. Perhaps it was still on the 4th.

After using a series of Yogas (original tp yoga, yoga 12, yoga 260 and a pair of x1 yoga gen 1), I still miss the hinge on my X200t. When X200t in tablet mode, the heavier end with battery is in your hand, not fighting with a laptop as a lever in Yogas. Original TP Yogas is so heavy I took some wrist damage while using it as a tablet in some weird places. 260 and X1s are lighter and easier to handle but not as stable as a X200t. Plus 200t have better protection of keyboard area while placing the folded laptop on a damp surface while I'm taking shower or eating. (I do have some weird habit with my thinkpads...)

The classic twist design is well loved but depending on your situation didn't wear as nicely. From the samples I've seen anyway.

I'm looking everywhere to see if the Yoga 14 supports the Lenovo active pen or any lenovo pen models. I currently got one for free from an office and I am planning on using this for school/work note-taking. Does the Yoga 14 20DM support a stylus or should I buy an external wacom pad?
