This is an awesome review/comparison! I've been debating wether to get the Sony or Sigma for a while now and the only thing tipping me over to the Sony was the OSS but now that I got a Gimbal I'm gonna go with the Sigma. It definitely yields a better picture in my opinion!

It's always difficult. I love the slightly warmer and "better" imagine from the sigma, but the Sony glass just works better with the Sony body. The autofocus with the Sony doesn't hunt as much as it does with the sigma, and the extra OSS pulls through as a security against jitters. Thank you so much for the review.

It seems that this is a handheld test. If you perform the same test with Sigma on a 3 axis gimbal without steadyshot, would you get less shake? Does the gimbal compensate the shake on sigma in 1/50 shutter? What is the best choice in terms of sharpness and focus tracking when using the lens on a gimbal?

This was an EXCELLENT review bro, thanks so much. And wow that ISO test made me remember why I'm getting the 6500 in the first place, currently I'm shooting on a Canon 70D and my video becomes massively fuzzy at anything at or above 800 ( and that's in great lighting). Looking to pick up the 6500 to be able to add some flair to my videos and get crisp low light shots. I was thinking for my first 2 lenses I would go sigma 30 f1.4 and the Sony 50mm (the silver one). Any other recommendations?
@SidneyDiongzon
@SidneyDiongzon 6 лет назад
THANKS SO MUCH!!! Yeah, the low light on the a6500 was surprisingly good, considering it's APS-C camera! As far as lenses go, I'd also recommend the Sony 85mm 1.8 OSS. It's soooooooooooo good and produces the best bokeh of any Sony lens I've tried so far. Hope this helps!

Quick question. I have the sigma 18-35mm and I just got the sony a6500. I want good autofocus so I can't decide if I should save the money and just get the mc11, or if I should get some sony glass. Since you have both, what would you recommend? does the mc11 work pretty good, or is it finicky and I should go with sony glass?
@SidneyDiongzon
@SidneyDiongzon 7 лет назад
The Sigma 18-35mm and MC-11 adapter will definitely give you GOOD autofocus, but not GREAT autofocus. Sony glass is by far faster! The Sigma 18-35 is a beautiful lens and will give you beautiful results, so if image quality is your goal, then get the MC-11 adapter. If autofocus performance is your goal, then go with a Sony glass. In my next video, I'll be featuring the MC-11 adapter with the Sigma 35mm Art, so look out for that! Hope this helps!
@zachsperrazzo
@zachsperrazzo 7 лет назад
Sidney Diongzon ok awesome thanks! I I'll go with the mc11 and also the Sony 10-18mm cuz I love that wide angle and also it's Sony to it will be great autofocus. I'll go with that setup instead of something like the zeiss 16-70... Cuz lowlight of sigma is also a huge factor. Thanks for the input!
@jmackultra
@jmackultra 5 лет назад
I think I'll rock with the Sony because of the OSS because I can't see too big of a difference in video quality. When you place them side by side I can tell they're different but they both look pretty good 👌. I'll have to try watching on a larger screen to see if I change my mind.

Which would you recommend for my a6300 shooting almost exclusively photos. I've mostly done street photography but have been exploring and trying new things. Going to the mountains, car shows, boudoir, night shots and everything in-between. But all I have is the kit lens and an old 50mm 1.7 I adapted from a Minolta film camera. I'm also looking for a more versatile telephoto lens but I think I'm getting a nice prime first.
@SidneyDiongzon
@SidneyDiongzon 6 лет назад
+Zuriel Guillen Go with the Sigma 30mm 1.4 DC DN lens! It's semi-wide enough for street photography, but you can get great portrait shots when you're close to a subject. It's my favorite lens for the Sony a6000/a6300/a6500!

There is one more thing for Sony lens - it's smaller. I went to E-mount for size and weight so it's quite important for me. If someone doesn't care about size Sigma is a clear choice. You didn't mention about CA - Sony can produce quite massive CA is contrast situation (purple fringing) while Sigma does a much better job.

I'm getting into vlogging with short cinematic clips here and there with the A6300. I was looking for a run and gun lens that can help be with both scenarios. Do you think a 30mm/35mm will give me a wide enough angle for vlogging? It'll definitely help me in video quality and cinematic sequences but I'm just not sure if it'll work out for vlogging.

I bought first the 35mm f1.8. Then I heard of the Sigmas. I bought the 16mm. It delivered 1/5 of the images completely missfocussed images. Until f4 the lens is soft at the sides. So probably I’m not going to try another lens of this series. I have the Sigma 150-600mm and there it seems I was lucky to get a properly sharp copy.

Hey guys I am in desperate need of some help here, we have the Sony a6500 and just purchased the 35mm 2.8 zeiss lens which we took out test shooting last night and was GREAT for photos but the video is terrible!! So shakey and unusable. Even though the a6500 has 5 axis stabilisation and all our settings seem to be right for video set up. Would we be any better off with the sonnar 1.8 that has OSS?
@SidneyDiongzon
@SidneyDiongzon 6 лет назад
The IBIS is great, but not perfect. At 35mm, your focal length equivalent is actually 52mm, so seeing some shake is expected. There are some techniques you can apply to reduce shake (I even made a video on how to do that! "3 Handheld Moves to Cinematic Shots"), but yes having a lens with OSS will definitely help. I haven't tried the Sonnar 1.8 yet, but the Sony 35mm 1.8 OSS works really well! Hope this helps!

Great comparison! Curious if you think the 35mm with OSS is perhaps a better choice for someone with the a6300 (like me) since it has no in-body stabilization? I do shoot with a gimbal most of the time, but not always...

Man I'm really torn lol. I ended up grabbing the 35mm for OSS but really love the image quality the 30mm has. It's very comparable to the 18-35 which I use a lot.

I loved this review!! Well done 💪💪💪, for a6300 a6000 users (no IBIS) to do video and event photography, which one you recommend? I own the sigma 30mm 2.8 and just focus points on the center, would that be same issue, or a limitation with the 30mm 1.4?

LKFX Quality Media My understanding is that unlike f2.8 the f1.4 uses all the PDAF focus points...just like native Sony lens.

I have recently bought sigma 30mm for a6300, and I noticed rattling noise when taking a video in AF. Is it normal? And which lens you would recommend for filmmaking?
@SidneyDiongzon
@SidneyDiongzon 6 лет назад
There shouldn't be any "rattling" noise, but maybe AF noise? You can only hear it if you use the internal mic of your camera. I rarely use the internal mic, so it doesn't bother me.
@Tennisfiles
@Tennisfiles 5 лет назад
@@SidneyDiongzon Thanks for pointing out that the AF noise only matters if you use the internal mic! Gonna be using the rode wireless go so not an issue :) For shooting video of fast moving subjects, like tennis, would you choose the sony 35mm or the sigma 30mm (using a tripod or gimbal)? Thanks bro!

I'm also thinking about 18-105 g lens for events, going to check your channel for reviews. Thanks again.

That OSS really reduces the micro jitters with IBIS on, it's still quite prominent on the Sigma. I've got really shaky hands so that's a tough decision, especially when I'm shooting handheld. Should be a breeze on a gimbal. I'm switching from a Nikon D750 to Sony so looking in to lenses to acquire along with the A6600.
@NLMusique

Great video. I'm debating between 2 of these lenses and which to get. If I'm using a Sony A6000 with the Sigma 30 mm, wouldn't that be too shaky for still pictures? The good thing about the Sony 35 mm is that it has OSS which prevent hand shake for still pictures.

One last question, I do photo and video so what would you recommend for getting sonys 35mm or 50mm?
@SidneyDiongzon
@SidneyDiongzon 7 лет назад
+Bryce Vaughn Good question! That's really preference. If you like tighter shots, go with the 50mm. If you want a little room to play with, then go with the 35mm. I do find that the 35mm is slightly better in image quality.

Hi Sidney! Nice video! I also prefer the image of Sigma 30. But I have a doubt: in AF-C the engine is noisy? I use it especially for weddings and this can be a problem for recording a good sound. Thank you
@SidneyDiongzon
@SidneyDiongzon 7 лет назад
It's not too noticeable. You shouldn't really rely on the internal mic of the camera anyway. You should always use an onboard mic or external recorder. Hope this helps!

Depends on how steady your hands are! Ideally, the a6500 is a great pair with the Sigma 30mm because of the camera's IBIS. Hope this helps!

I shoot with the A6500 which, obviously has IBIS. I purchased the 30mm f/1.4 simply because I found it from a local photographer and got a very good price. I am quite happy with it. Right now I'm shooting with the 12mm f/2 Rokinon; 30mm f/1.4 Sigma; 50mm f.1.8 Sony; and the great Sony 85mm f/1.8. I also have a 16mm f/2.8 Sony which is soon going the way of eBay and a 28-70mm f/3.5-5.6 Sony zoom which I love for family pix. I'd like a small lens to fit somewhere in between the 12mm and the 30mm and think that the Sigma 19mm f.2.8 might be my choice,,,

Since a6500 has IBIS.. can i go for sigma 30mm f1.4... will sony 35mm f1.8 give more stability since it has OSS in lens? Thanx in advance... 🙂
@SidneyDiongzon
@SidneyDiongzon 7 лет назад
The Sony 35mm will have more stability, but the IBIS performs really well with the Sigma 30mm 1.4 in my opinion. Either option, you can't go wrong!

Thanks for sharing, this is a great comparison video. Considering jumping from a5100 to the a6500. Sad how bad the 1080 footage looks compared to the 4k - usable in brief spots for B-roll but that's about it. Great to know if that's your impression if you get a moment.
@SidneyDiongzon
@SidneyDiongzon 7 лет назад
Go for the jump! I don't the the 1080 footage looks bad at all. Check out some of my "FILM JOURNAL" videos and you'll see the image quality of the footage. Especially if you use a good lens like a Sigma 30mm 1.4 DC DN. Hope this helps!
