Leo 1st half sets a well solid base to super pass "Kaithi and Vikram" in LCU. But somehow Lokesh missed a knots to make it. Flashback should been avoided. Instead Lokesh try to keep the secret by hiding Parthiban past life and try to maintain whether Leo and Partiban are same or different persons. WHAT IF ??? 2nd half opens in a same style where Antony Das himself and Harlod Das's gang try to meet Leo and try to prove that Parthiban was Leo in his past.. Noway parthiban accept that he was Leo in his past. Antony Das and Harlod Das gang try to attack his family, but Parthiban well prepared and safe grard his family despite various try from both gang. Somehow Antony Das kidnapped Pathiban's son. Pre Climax Setting: Parthiban try to find out his son. Leaving Trisha, his daughter, alone in GVM house with GVM and Napoleon as a safeguard. Night | Int ( GVM house ) [ Explained Detailed as this scene got some mass elements, I guess ] Harlod das gang around 50 people enters GVM house. Someone cutoff the electricity supply and before opening the door 2 people fly's and remaining people try to find who beaten them using tourch. Inside house 'Dilli doing lungi fold... FLASHBACK [ Before Parthiban leaves home to find out his son. Asked GVM and Napoleon to safeguard his family. Meanwhile Nepoleon asked help from Dili to protect Prathiban family from threats. Dilli came all the way to protect Parthiban family ] All 3 (Dilli, Napoleon and GVM ) almost killed everyone. Finally Parthiban find out the place where his son kept and tortured. Massive fight scene b/w Parthiban and Antony Das. Finally Parthiban killed Antony Das and safe guard his son. ( As seen in original movie climax , just replace Harold Das character with Antony Das ) And still maintained the secret " Who is Leo Das" End credit: ( Like vikram movie ) Insert Lokiverse 2.0 BGM Harlod Das got both news of Anthony Das death and his gang killed by 'Dilli' and he conveyed this things to his son " Rolex " who is a big drug dealer in Mumbai. And now Harlod bas and Rolex against Parthiban and Dilli. And still the secret kept Whether " Parthiban and Leo " are same person or different person. Parthiban gets a call from Unknown no.. Saying Leo we will come for you and your family Parthiban replied : My brother Rolex... Kaidhi - best as original film. Vikram - Non linear screen play Leo - Linear screenplay with pseudo derivatives. A movie like Leo has never been made in India earlier. People who devalued it will appreciate it later!

Leo would have been satisfying, if they had made parthi as another character altogether. As an audience, i liked the parthiban shade of vijay(emotionally vulnerable and responsible dad), than the leo shade(a mass murderer and drug smuggler who has no remorse of all his sins and only reason he burned the factory is because of vaiyapuri's joshiyam).

On point brother. Really appreciate the small detailing you revealed. In my pov, this is the weakest Lokesh movie. He said this will be his 100% film. But I don't think so after watch the 2nd half. They forced to put too much of commercial elements in the movie. I think Loki depending too much on the action sequences and BGM from Anirudh. He really need to get back to Managram & Kaithi mode. Hope he make comeback for thalaivar film with good script and screenplay

Leo is arguebly vijay's best performance and lokesh's worst attempt.

As a film lover, I'm highly disappointed on how negative talks impact even high calibre people to mistook a film. So I would like address my thoughts on the so called negatives you have mentioned in this video: Note: this is as long as an essay. But pls don't lose patience and read fully. 1. Potrayal of leo in flashback: I can see y this becomes an issue due to non-lokesh-esque fights(if we can call it). But it justifys how an ordinary coffee shop owner can fight and tame a hyena, how he can fight off 5 killers and kill them, his shooting prowess, his anger when he starts fighting. I don't see it as a drawback. May be u guys seem to be taken aback because it's not what you have seen in a lokesh film before. Dialogues could have written better though. 2. Madonna's death and elongated fight: Let's take bhaasha. We have a flashback within a flashback for y manikam became manik bhaasha, whole time spent on this frnd character is less than 15 mins. I probably be wrong on the timing. But his death is the reason why manikam becomes bhaasha and we never questioned it. I believe U don't have to spend extra time on establishing the importance of a close relationship for a character. Elisa was leos twin sister. We all are fed with how twin siblings relationships work throughout the course of film history. And for your point on elongated fight, i absolutely disagree on preferring melodrama over efficiently choreographed high level fight scenes. 3.Human sacrifice scene: Actually this is based on perspective. I can't justify others point of view. But I find it interesting 4. Anurag's cameo : it's exactly what it is. A freaking cameo. Even Vijay mentions ' ketu saavu vangikitan la' after killing him. This is a small fourth wall breaking thing where anurag mentions he just want to die in LCU in an interview. I think lokesh brilliantly utilizes even that in mentioning the same in the scene where Vijay is tied up. Films in Hollywood uses superstars for gags like these (Eg . Brad pitt in Deadpool2, Chris evans in free guy, Ryan Reynolds in bullet train). Of all the negative points people pointing out, this is the one that triggers me the most. 5. Villain writing: This I can agree on. Their screenspace is less and motives are just stated not elaborated. However, u can't deny the actions that they take highly motivates the entire second half to move forward. Anthony threatening parthiban in coffee shop, showing up on Trisha mentioning parthi is his son, trisha searching for parthi's past , Anthony kidnapping parthi' s son, parthi killing Anthony, Harold taking revenge for it, action that comes after it and the climax. So not the worst written second half, just that it could be better. The reason they both(Anthony and Harold) want parthi to accept that he is leo is a simple reason. They are egomaniacs. They just want him to accept he is leo and make him beg for mercy. That much is very clear for me. Y u guys didn't get that- I don't know. 6. Naa ready song- lyrics part I accept But the part in which u mention cutting away from the dance, i strongly strongly disagree. scene placements and cut patterns might seem odd. But if u think, look how much that 3 and half minutes achieve in story telling. Instead of wasting time on explaining the whole shananigan of killing the das twins, simply placing them between the song establishes 3 things:(a) Anthony das is real crazy to the point of sacrificing his own children for his satanic believes.(b) Harold has hatred towards leo for some reason(which could have been shown or explained better) (c) Anthony loves leo more than Elisa and wanted to save him when even Harold wanted to kill him. All things went south when leo destroys the godown. And as a bonus, its a great freaking song and one of vijays best dance performances so far in his career. 7. The drone shot fight sequence that follows after the song: establishing geography and showing the brilliantly choreographed fight sequences cannot be achieved better in any other way. Eagle flying within the godown in icing on the cake. Don't know y u guys can't enjoy it. 8. Horse riding scene: i honestly sighed hard with my palm on my face when u mentioned this. This is not forced. If u listen to the beforehand scene, Sathya and her daughter along with priya Anand character would have gone to the pharmacy to buy medicine without parthi. In the mobile conversation, parthi would have mentioned y hurry, if waited for a day, he would have taken them in the car after it was repaired. Since he was not there, he couldn't prevent Sathya from confronting Anthony, which leads her to call parthi frantically, which again made parthi call his son, which in turn made him do the Javelin thing. Regarding horse riding, its using the geography again effectively. 9. Forceful LCU connect: I don't know how to answer this. It's a creative decision that a creator took. But i don't have a problem with it. Nepolean placement was really enjoyable. Maya's placement was really intriguing and didn't get the payoff until the post climax scene. 10. Action scenes: See, Car chase scene was one of the best executed scenes I have witnessed and i have witnessed many. The CG was bad. But it didn't affect my viewing. I get the same adrenaline rush I get to see in any great films like Edgar Wright's baby . Come on man. Parthi jumping of from his bike to another car, leaving the bike and causing Napolean to fall was ultimate. The fact that even after getting seriously injured, he still protects parthi's family by sitting in the centre of the hall, shooting the rowdies entering with one hand, with a freaking iv on the other hand. How freaking cool is that!!!! Can a character have a better closing scene? Lokesh is trying to up his game in every next film he does. This creator is ambitious. Some may click and some may not. But it's wrong to say to a creator that he should stop being ambitious and do simple things that worked before. It's exactly similar to a hero asking to change the story line for his preference. The fact that u said this pains me. 11. Vikram's voice over: Again it's a creator's choice. The reason why maya was in parthi's coffee shop was now clear that she works for Vikram now and Vikram is looking for people to band together for A bigger fight against a much bigger syndicate like Rolex. It's reasonable. In kaithi it was cocaine, in Vikram it was the raw substance to make cocaine, in leo it was darthona which was even deadlier. When leo destroys the entire darthona supply syndicate of the country, he ultimately comes under the radar of Vikram, who is already a ghost. Regardless of his past, he will try to recruit the man. Think like this, only vikram's team and us audience knows that he is an agent. The rest of the country in this world knew him as terrorist only. What if Bejoy thought why should we work for a terrorist? And how did he come to know about the agents' history and joining him? These are unknowns. They are exactly that. Freaking Unknowns. Thats what will make us come to his next LCU movie. To keep the story going. I honestly don't know what to say . I watched the film only once. And I got all of these by watching only once. All I did was enter the theatre without any expectation. I am not saying I'm some smartass who got all these and u r not. The karuthu what is I'm saying: we should start watching films with unbiased thoughts and unachievable expectations. It will ultimately ruin the film. A great example for this is the movie by Shankar 'I' . It was a really great movie which was ruined by unbiased thoughts and unachievable expectations. antony (villlan ne kedaiyathu -(Avaru appa bro) ) leo va kolave pakala he infact he saved his family he just wanted to rebuild his empire with help of leo , he choosed elisa for sacrifaice but everyone including harlold wanted leo to be sacrificed. here leo is the villan he is the badass . he kills everyone for hiding his identity from his family .he also busted the factory for revenge not for drug free society.( see the intro cafe scene he potrayed antony as angel(wings) and leo as devil(crown with throns) ). i will accept that car fight scene cgi was not good (but the hyena and eagle cgi were good) .antha flashback fake ah koda irukalam like uppiliappan story about karnan lokesh made everyone beleive this story therefore there must be a detailed badass flashback about leo charecter in future

Answer for your 8th point?? Its not direct lcu connect movie its a character introduction movie in lcu... Like thor, hulk movies in avengers And now we can't say whether Vikram calling Leo in the climax is unnecessary... If we follow the rest of Vikram's calling Leo illogically in the coming movies, we can say that the climax in Leo is unnecessary but we can't say now... Vikram 2 is the end game of lcu and the purpose of the films coming before it is to build the characters and story for Vikram 2.

In the end Leo was not happy to join Vikram team, as Leo wanted to live a peaceful life with his family Alternative Version FLASHBACK (1999): Anthony Das & Harold Das are brothers who operate a tobacco factory in the state. Leo an outsider joins them and helps in expansion and success of their business. The Das brothers grow fond of him and affectionately start calling him "Leo Das". The reputation of Das & Co. reaches Young Rolex, who is gaining fame in the drug trade. Young Rolex aims to extend the drug business in Das & Co state and approaches them for distribution (LCU Link 1) The use of drugs becomes widespread among college students. One day, Leo visits a place close to college to settle a distribution dispute related to the drugs, where Leo meets Sathya falls in love at first sight. Leo and Sathya fall deeply in love as time passes. But Leo hides his true identity that he is a gangster and plays a good man. Loves changes Leo and makes him go soft. News of their relationship reaches the ears of Das brothers. Fear of losing Leo, they warn him to let go of Sathya. The storyline successfully establishes Rolex as a powerful character in the LCU timeline 3. LEO-Sathya love story with romantic movements in an action movie. 4. Leo needed a compelling reason to leave the gang, and being an outsider made it easier for him to leave. 5. Anthony Das's intense desire to kill Leo is driven by his deep anger, because of Leo's role in destroying his business and causing his brother's death. 6. Leo's motivation to join Vikram's team is strongly justified 7. Establish plots for Leo 2. Leo 2 can showcase his fighting and shooting skills prior to 1999 and how he was recruited into Das & Co 8. Leo's knowledge of working with Rolex can be valuable to Vikram's team 9. Bringing Leo character in Rolex standalone during raise of Rolex in the 90's 10. Love makes you do crazy things is a more justifiable reason than superstitious killing

Flashback opens up with D'Souza voice explaining how Antony Das started the Tobacco empire. His brother goes to Canada for education and got new network links to expand the Datora Drug cartel. As their Drug Cartel expands, he got linked to secret societies or Cult groups, where Antony Das started to believe Human Sacrifice for Growth. As Children, Leo and his twin sister, Elisha involved in drug business of their father. In 1999, Das & Co's large pile of stocks got struck due to police. Elisha and Leo outsmarts the police and recovers the huge pile of stocks. They got involved in the Naa Ready than song while Harold has plan to Capture the Entire Das & Co empire by New Millenium (year 2000). So, secretly has Father(Vaiyapuri) to give names of Elisha & Leo for Human Sacrife to Antony Das as Harold Das is in fear of their growth in Das & Co. In the Incident Date, Antony Das tries to kill Elisha were a massive fights open up which involved in the fire accident. Elisha and Leo whereabouts are unknown. Both Das brothers- Antony & Harold believed that both of them died. Now after knowing that Parthiban looks like Leo, they want to do the Human sacrifice again to save Das & Co from defeating against the Drug Cartels of Rolex, Das & Co's prime rivalry. In Present Day, Antony Das kidnaps Leo's son and ask him to come to Telegana. Parthiban travels to explain that he is not Leo. But again a massive fight open up where Antony Das was killed. Parthiban cannot fight Harold Das but suddenly someone has fired the gunpowder which bursted & Fire was spreading. Parthiban saved his son in the distraction & drives back but got interrupted by Harold Das Call who threatens to kill his family in Himachal pradesh by arranging a huge bounty from all states Rowdies & Drug cartel members. Parthiban call Napolean to alert his family, Napolean picks up the call and give it to a person wearing Black Mask, where Vikram speaks that his family is in safe hands and offers to join "Drug Free Society team". In the Post Credit scene, Elisha fires the Gunpowder but Whether Leo is Parthiban is mystery to be found out in Next LCU film.

On the first day shows, they would have mentioned the reason to bring back Leo. After Leo left, das brothers were not able to restart their drug business. So in present, Antony will say the reason to bring back Leo is to restart their drug business. This reason had no logic, since in flashback, they decide to kill Leo. So they edited that reason in the second day shows.

Bro I Agree with most of your points, but as a budding writer I kinda feeling like he may have deliberately made those decisions cause if you see the flashback portion was narrated by monsoor also khan but the story said by him felt like a cover up cause loki always said Mansoor ali khan was his favourite actor and I personally feel like this was not his portion there was more to his character and when Joshi asked to cross check whether it was leo he was fully drunk and him and Dinesh master reaction in badass song portion or towards climax I think felt like they were trying to cover up. Secondly Anurag Kashyup yes it looked like his character was no required again in a director/writer perspective his character was also not explored cause we need to understand Anurag was one of the juries in important cine awards ceremonies and one of indias most acclaimed director I think if it was his total portion in the movie he wouldn't have accepted it as he knew very well how audience will receive a character, so in a long run both mansoor and Anurag has more to do with the story. about LCU ending, yes I too felt like it was forced and it looks like vikram don't research a lot about people in his squad, but if you read the lines "yaarendru therigiradha" and calling him "LEO DAS" it looked like something has happened between Leo and Vikram in the past and I hope and I genuinely hope it will be revealed in the future LCU movies. About villain again it felt and looked to open ended to me maybe (in some interview he said that he is planning for LEO 2 maybe he will explore more of the LEO's past there and more about the DAS family). MY theory: Leo probably will reject vikram's offer, but same like amar who lost something personal before joining the squad leo/parthi will probably loose his son, as he may become an drug addict in the future(probably using rolex drugs) and because of which LEO will join Vikram squad. Just my head canon. Everything I have written was just my view on writing. Yes Loki Fumbled in many spaces but hope he will bounce back again in the next movies Again I maybe correct in something or I might be wrong, it's just it is little hard to think that loki fumbled in writing as he was a great writer who even goes into every inch detailing. Bro you mentioned that lokesh forced lcu in leo and i too feel it such a way ,but leo is all about Vijay's another face as an actor, lokesh experiments as a director/ and as you said he also may felt like " maybe leo may not work for lcu" so that he can just remove it from his universe/ not like kaidhi and vikram characters there's no compulsion to participate in further LCU's . If leo works he can fix the block in the lcu puzzle 🧩,if doesn't he can just finish it with a narration. He just used the hype for LCU with Vijay ❤

Sanjay dutt and Arjun charecterisation is weak... this might have been a deliberate call from Lokesh. They didn't want to kill Leo. They wanted to reestablish their business through Leo. Actually the main intention of Vijay (Parthi) is to hide that he is Leo. And when that chatacter comes out, he is stressed and frustrated. So Parthi has to fight his own alter ego (Leo), more than he wanted to fight Sanjay dutt and Arjun. I think this is what Lokesh had in mind. But not well executed in second half. And moreover Ani music in 2nd half is not as powerful as it was in jalier 2nd half. Though Jailer had problems and lag in 2nd half, the Ani magic in 2nd half overshadowed it. In Leo that didn't happen.

this is my version of leo with minor changes, but just hear this narrative serial killers in the beginning are actually mercenaries of rolex who want to somehow refill their cocaine stock due to events of vikram so they kill the chocolate factory owners and shop keepers for its raw product erythroxylum coca, hence they go to parthi's Cafe but get killed by him.. For protection from furthering threats napoleon is assigned to help parthi's family but wants to use his transfer for escaping and hiding due to the event of kaithi Just hear this version of the flashback: parthi denies being leo because he is ACTUALLY not leo instead he's sathya (lokesh reference for kamal characters) one of the 11 policeman who in the last 10 years took straight action against the drug mafia and got presumably killed (which was told by bejoy in kaithi so LCU connect is organically there) who had combat with the original leo das while he was on his last assignments and killed him The assignment was to transport 2000 kg of cocaine and leo does it because of rivalry between leo and rolex competition in the same field but parthi stops him and kills him According to flashback from parthi's side finally parthi says the drugs went missing so antony and Harold would kill parthi for being leo because he ruined their jobs and also he would kill parthi for being sathya Also because he not only stopped das and co out of business but also killed antony's only son.also antony and Harold are working under debt under rolex syndicate until they clear the loss in revenue due to the huge loss in the trade caused by leo so they will try to persuade him to be leo after thinking he ran with their stash and invested it. this gives extra layer why antony and Harold need leo alive and kidnap his son into isolation so that parthi could turn violent So what would sathya as parthi do ? It is also revealed that leo used the help of an ex cop and an associate from rolex gang both who went missing and the latter went to jail for murder on random occasions Andrew's confirmed that what sathya tells is true and napoleon supports him because of his own flashback In the end sathya as parthi kills Harold and his men but not before revealing that he is ACTUALLY FINALLY LEO Then in voice-over leo tells what happened Leo killed sathya and since both look alike sathya gets replaced by leo and that leo did that assignment under the deal that he gets to quit the business and leave but instead used the money out of a portion of the consignment as bribe to fake the whole thing and joined with sathya(trisha) and his 6 yr old son. This is justified because Leo's biological daughter completely believes he is her dad because he is, but sathya and sidhhu take some time to believe and in this version sidhhu just believes and realizes that sathya is his father while really it's leo Leo on the other hand vows to kill anyone who knows his huge secret and rejoins with his family In the last scene it is revealed that the police who accompanied him in his assignment was none other than DANIEL(anurag kashyap) who is revealed to have changed and joined vikram and Amar in his ongoing mission And dilli is revealed to be the associate from rolex gang The whole hero gang want him to be on their side for more men to destroy drugs and threaten him because they know his secret that he is leo because of Daniel. And rolex calls leo because he confirmed that leo killed antony and Harold So currently leo is under pressure from both gangs and it's left to the audience who have to guess whether leo is in the hero's gang or villain gang or be his own person and kill the whole group who knew who he is.

Bro the flashback is told from the perspective of the prisoner that's why there are no Elsa Leo scene, the over the top fight scene can be a reflection of his exaggerated narration. Beside the is no plausible reason for the villain needed, bad guy is bad and the motivation of the villain is always wrong.

The concept of sanjay dutt character was pretty interesting... But could have take sometime to explain the dynamics of the character... I don't know why he chose to rush the flashback portion

5:30 exactly.. That fight scene made me feel like I was watching an Atlee film rather than a Lokesh film.. For me too the flashback didn't work at all and there is no point now saying that the flashback was fake (Apdi irundhirundha adhukkana hints padathile vechirunthirukkanam) But other than the flashback and the lcu connect (I felt it as too inorganic and forced), the film worked for me.. An excellent first half and an above average second half 👍 and as you said Leo is definitely rich with it's theatrical moments ❤️🔥 so definitely worth for it
