it is always interesting to know the way you worked with Alvin and of course Chick and Ric, the approaching you had as a band when composing some particular song!
50,000 Miles Beneath My Brain breaks my heart every time I hear it... it's so beautiful.. but your version of Good Morning Little School Girl really gets my blood pumping. A little story on either would be awesome.
@@LeoLyonsMusician Gosh, Leo, thank YOU. Your playing has always been so very energized, exciting and so accomplished, and I'm hardy the first to note that. But these recent videos of yours show, even more important, an engaged, articulate & wizened true gentleman. Thanks for making our lives better.
Leo Lyons is a global treasure. I don't think I've ever been so gobsmacked as I was by Mr. Lyons' warm, soft-spoken demeanor and then full beast mode in the upbeat. Absolutely captivating and joyful. Thank you, sir, for your continued contributions and generosity. Most kind regards, Anthony LeBlanc
I just turned 16 years old and i’ve listened to ten years after about 3 years now I got really into you guys about α year ago when my grandpa started telling me bands he used to listen to and how he listen to Shhh! with his basketball team to get warmed up in the early 70s. Ever sense then i’ve been learned many of you guys songs and been getting my buddy who i’ve been teaching bass to learn them as well for hopefully some day us to peform, really appreciate your guys music that has stayed alive all these generations!
Mr Leo Lyon, seeing how Still plays his bass without losing a note, it takes You Back to the beginning of the 70s Mr Leo Lyon must feel nostalgic for playing that song when he remembers the voice and sound of the great guitarist Alvin Lee I wish him to continúe with health Rock and Blues for Life ✌️ 🎸🎸🥁🎹
Been a big fan of TYA since the 60's. You are my fave Bass player and Alvin's my fave guitarist. Saw you twice in Winnipeg, Canada, 71 & 72. To see you do this is so great, thanks for all the music.
Leo, thanks for a lifetime of incredible music. I head this song in 71’ visiting a stereo and record store outside Chicago and thought it was the best rock song ever recorded. Still think that today. All the best!
Your as cute as in1970. I remember going home from Michigan State University, fall of 1971, a girl I gave a ride to near Detroit, heard your song on the car radio, and she turned it up and got super excited about the song. I didn't have to, just hearing it brings good vibes to my whole body!
I grew up to old hits, I was about 5 or 6 sweeping the floors of my father's machine shop n I helped my godfather around the shop after school when my homework was done, I'd sit down there air guitaring with broom sticks acting like a maniac when I heard this song still do to this day n I'm 23 now, music is such a gift without it I wouldn't be where I am today n wouldnt have these killer memories 🤟😎
Thank you so much Mr. Lyons for all your input in Ten Years After - my favorite British band alongside Led Zeppelin. I listen to your music on daily basis, really enjoy it
One of my favorite TYA songs. I bought the album while I was in the Army in 71 .. love the bass lines in “Let the Sky Fall” too Leo. That album had some great songs “Once there was a Time” “Baby Won’t You Let Me” “One these Days” .. great music
Standing at the Station 50,000 Miles Beneath My Brain Good Morning Little Schoolgirl I really started listening to TYA in 1971 at age 13. My brother is 12 years younger than me. When I was 18, and he was 6, my mother told him the lyrics to Good Morning Little Schoolgirl were “I wanna play ball with you”
Leo Lyons, I followed the group Ten Years After since 1968 ,I' am a fan , I hope this memory is an inspiration to continúe with the legacy of the great Alvin and his Drummer 🎸🎸🥁
Leo Lyons... One of the most exciting balls to the wall bass players ive ever heard.. Real real classy... Hes got it all and makes me want to be a better player... Long May You Run...
@@LeoLyonsMusician I know this is a real long shot but i have to ask. Im a massive fan and i absoloutely love Ten Years After but as a bass player its you that always just blew my brain. Ive always been drawn to music that was from the 60"s and 70's even though i wasnt born until 1970 myself. You... Jack Bruce.. John Entwistle have been a massive inspiration to me... ANYWAY.. getting to the point... Is their anyway of getting my vinyl copy of Cricklewood Green signed by you if i sent it and paid the return postage? It would take pride of place next to my Steve Marriott signed Small Faces album and would be much treasured. Its a wonderful thing music whether playing or listening and nothing makes me feel so good. Even if its not possible for you to do this i just want to thank you for the absoloute joy and inspiration you have given me for many years and also for taking tbe time to reply which has made my year. Ill leave my email below just in case their is anywhere i can send my album. Take Care Leo... Darren bassfunkjunky@hotmail.com
HI Darren, Thanks for the kind words. I'd be pleased to sign your Album. You can send it to Leo Lyons, C/O Music Box, Unit 7, Tollgate Close, Cardiff, CF11 8TN. Good luck with your music. Regards Leo
I was six years of age when I first heard this song on the radio, even at the mere age of six I was hooked by the amount of passion and energy in your song "I'd Love To Change The Word". I'm pushing 60 now and I credit Alvin Lee, yourself and the remaining musicians who formed your band Ten Years After for recording such a wonderful, powerful and yet melodic song for turning me on to music, it's something that I've always looked to for inspiration. With the internet and sites like RU-vid I can now go back and watch so many excellent bands in concert. Recently I watched an entire Ten Years After Concert at the Fillmore and was just blown away by the passion your band had for playing live. I mean Alvin Lee was just unbelievable in the way he has a command over his red gibson 335, but I got to tell you I just loved the way he came over to one Leo Lyons playing bass like nobody's business, played along a bit while clearly approving of the incredible amount of energy and tempo you were rolling along your bass line with. Alvin was ripping it up and he knew Leo Lyons was doing the same. I've been to literally hundreds of rock concerts, that was my thing for nearly three decades, and I can't recall any band performing with more intensity and sonic goodness than Ten Years After in concert at Winterland circa 1975. Thanks Leo, you still sound great, I appreciate your music and good nature.
@@ictengineer738 No that was not me. The bass player was Larry(The Mole) Taylor. He was a good friend of mine who sadly passed away a few years ago. Regards Leo
Dear Mr. Lyons I just found your channel and I love listening to your memories and stories and of course your music I love Ten Years After music I wished I was old enough to been at Woodstock you sir rock I've watched your video of the Woodstock over and over of your performance and was in awe there is a lot of young people finding your music and loving it I got my daughter to listen to your music and she loved it and when I informed her of when it was made she was shocked as always stay well thank you very much.
Gday Leon, you are a legend and we over here in Australia have been listening to TYA since we were first lucky enough to first hear your albums back in the day, cheers
Hi Leo, I'm learning to play bass and came looking for clarity on some of Change the World , and found the best version available, which of course was yours! Very happy to discover you playing this. Thank you for sharing and helping me advance. Its so fun to watch you enjoying playing. Thanks for the inspiration!
I've just discovered your channel, thank you very much for sharing your stories and this wonderful bass video of one of my all-time favorite songs! I love the happiness on your face all through the song. Greetings from Mexico!
The song has a great mood/feel. Every part works. Singing is great, even the phasing of the vocal on the chorus is spot on. Alvin's guitar work is gorgeous and the tone matches the song. When you only have one guitarist, the bass player had better be good, and Leo is superb here too. It's a timeless track as so many have commented. I wonder what Leo thinks of Jetta's version?
I was born 18 years after this song was released. Heard it for the first time last night in S8E18 of NBC's The Blacklist, *REALLY* loved the bassline, wanted to check a bass cover, and found your video completely missing the point that you actually *were* Ten Years After's bassist! I'm blown away. Thank you, Leo!
So cool. I will listen to any histrorical tidbits you might post about your time with TYA. Thanks for your part in the creation of this album, of which was a big part of my life as teen in the '70s
@@LeoLyonsMusician Wow! Thanks for the reply. Most people of your stature don't ever reply to us. In my list of musicians I have actually put you and John Paul Jones along with Timothy B in the running for the top three spots leaving two open spots for the undecided. As an avid fan of TYA I was deeply saddened by the passing of Alvin. My deepest condolences to you and yours for sure though it be a little late. On another note I was wondering if you ever had a chance to play with John Bonham or Keith Moon the greatest drummers of all time, Tied for the number one spot for drummers. Thanks again and I'll be watching more of your vids now that I found you here. Have a great new year!
Sir, to me you always were the best of the best. I watch you on RU-vid all the time in amazement. You and Alvin were match made in heaven. Perfect combination...
Great to see you've still got it Leo. I saw you in Wimborne Minster a few years ago and I don't think I've ever seen anyone look so happy when they play. You've been my favourite bass player for over 50 years now, the only person I've seen live who comes close was Larry Taylor of Canned Heat when they toured the UK in about '69/70.
Good stuff Leo! Good to see you still have it. I was a big fan of TYA in the 1970's here in Australia. Also liked that that "Pure Blues" album Alvin released.
Great playing, love your technique, thanks for taking the time to share this! Love the way you completely take both hands off your bass to let that open E just ring without being hindered by your hands on the bass:) I think that might be the first time I've seen a player consistently do that throughout a song. Big fan through the years between TYA, Badfinger, and Dave Mason! Really enjoyed watching this Leo!
This song got me into music. I remember hearing this song as a youngster, probably 25 years ago, and immediately felt that I had to learn to play it. I bought a guitar and practiced the intro for months. Since then I've played in many bands and made a living from music for a few years. It's great to hear and see these basslines being played. The basslines during the solo give me goosebumps, this sure is bass at its best! Just amazing, what a masterpiece. So grateful for this song.
@@LeoLyonsMusician Yeah the bass players these days just kinda chug along. Metal has just taken the kicks to the next universe. I really hope to see people start making new older style music. I feel every decade still had music to be made. Maybe it is in a parallèle universe. Also 60's/70's rock didn't limit them selves to fit a record store genre correct me if I'm wrong.
Thanks for the kind words but please don't burn your basses. Every other day I get frustrated at not being able to play something I hear others play. The fun is working at your own pace and improving gradually to your goal. It's all fun. Regards Leo
Love the sound of the Rickenbacker on the track -Thanks for doing the RU-vid channel. I was blown away by TYA a basically listened to the tapes until they wouldn’t work anymore through the early 70s. Blown away by the bass, the guitar, vocals, lyrics and the drums. I just really dug the sound. Well done!.
Awesome! My two favorite TYA albums A Space In Time and Crickelwood Green. Thank you Leo for the great music back in those days. Great music great time!
Leo you have inspired me to start playing a bass myself! I heard this song, fell in love with that bass line, and went and got a sterling stingray. Thank you so much man!
