Turns out he is doing "se'e" which is a classical Samoan dance step...for women:)) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-h66ciHflETg.html 4:20 mark

@@jareid82 just look up Metropole orkest and you'll see they have worked with all kinds of musicians including dance and electronics. So they have a great experience with almost any music we can imagine. Jules Buckley (conducting in this video) worked with Ibeyi and Tori Amos, Hans Ek (another conductor of this orchestra) conducted their concert with SOHN. So... they are basically omniverse
highest note isn't a difficult thing to do, I got a bari from my band for 2 days and I can hit an g6 without to much difficulty. In my opinion his growls are way more impressive.
@@bruhspenning thanks for your insight I was just saying that from an outsiders position it's pretty cool to me that he can go high with a bari. I play eupho and piano so I wouldn't really know^^;
@@gasshu9095 he's actually biting the reed and squeaking. It's controlled. You'll notice he's not even using the keys necessary to hit such high notes. Takes a lot of practice and control.
Gotta say. This performance is S-Tier. The character, the technique, the ability to stay on beat, dance with a heavy instrument, gliding across the altissimo register to low growls, the musicianship while also working the crowd. It's breathtaking.
Best stage performance I've seen my generation produce in any genre. Until Mona started Leo was just doing his thing freely. The conductor didn't even know quite what he was in for. Leo told him when I'm done to start the song I'll look a you and nod. And then he rocked it. The Pokemon song with grace Kelly is another good performance
@@AnonMedic Jules Buckley and The Heritage Orchestra is difficult to shock or surprise. They have done their share of the odd and bizarre in amazing settings...and to excited and informed audiences. If you watch other THO performances, Jules loves to admire a world class talent being let loose for all to enjoy.
@@rickyricardo9710lungs don't inhale and exhale, the diaphragm makes the lungs in air and the air is naturally exhaled when the diaphragm relaxes If you build a stronger diaphragm you can breathe faster and deeper and achieve this
What an incredible entertainer, what talent he has, what energy, what dance steps he has, I'm 79 and I am jumping out of my chair! I have never heard a sax played like Leo plays it. The orchestra loves him too. He is a genius on the Sax. Stay cool Leo and don't let life kill your talent, the people love you and so do I !!
I loved how the orchestra just watched as Leo did his lil dance with the lung capacity of several elephants. The Trumpet guy had such a crisp and clean sound props to both of them
I have seen shots of Leo's back and it looks like he has a "secret" strap that runs from the neck strap down his back to his belt and is attached there. This would take a lot of the weight off, but you are right, being able to move like that with the weight of the instrument is amazing. I'm so excited I'm going to be able to meet him on this year's Dave Koz Cruise in May.
@@Boycott_Wendys if you knew about Proms you'd know how silly that statement is. They just get the best of the best. The audience is so close, you really could not pull it off if you tried.
"it doesnt even look like this was planned, like it seems that they were about to preform some big thing but then he just kinda ran out." -my friend after i showed him this
It's not really about breaking the rules though. It's about experimenting with them, and expanding them. But the rules are in good hands with Jazz players. And music with him.
Once again I am back to this video. Yes Leo is insanely good here, but so are the lead trompetist and the rest of the orchestra. The rhythm here is so completely flawless, that it gives me an adrenaline kick every time I hear this.
This is one of the best young musicians in the WORLD, honestly. He's not just dancing around and playing nonsense--he makes it structured and actually animates his sounds. Plus he pretty much feels the music and plays his damn heart out! The solo later on at 6:09 got me.... man...! Keep on, Leo, keep on!
He's very exciting to watch. Seen him live last year and seeing him again in the spring. He put the sax up to my face and blew my hair back and gave me a mischief look. It's a thing of wonder that he keeps going at this pace for a long time.
Right on all fronts! Gotta dig that solo, crazy. My girlfriend listen uniquely to Rap, and she literally flipped, so did I. Go ahead Leo P, make more videos please. The solo geez.
The Leo equation is simple. Mad talent combined with excellent physical strength and rhythm. His busking days will always show through in his ability to engage and perform at the same time. It doesn't matter what genre of music you like, if you hear Leo and a set of drums you stop and listen.
Bro that scream at the very end where he knows he just absolutely SLAYED an audience that was not expecting what just happened. I strive to put on a show with this much energy!
Unbelievable, when you take a breath? You are so dynamic!!! Your music is fantastic!! Sory for my English, i just try to say: it is perfect!!! Respect from Ukraine!
He outranged the highest pitched instrument ever made........ 😅😶😅😶😅😶 Dear lord so help us......... I play clarinet and tenor, how is this exactly??????
Ryan Schulz yeah, and the fact that he can circular breath while dancing and moving with the Bari Sax, just shows his profession and skill. I’m an Alto Sax player so I can’t imagine the pain my guy experienced after this.
My most favorite band teacher ever showed me this in 6th grade. i haven't forgotten it since and it still makes me dance to this day, THANKYOU MR TAYLOR
I genuinely think he can circular breathe. Not the trick where you put air in your cheeks while you inhale, I mean actually breathing in and out at the same time. Leo isn’t human.
@@ss_vynical8886 best advice ever dude, I'll try to throw a little budget on it. Imagine if we were all suggested to spend money on sax rather than drugs how good it would be
DURRR BURGER BOIO Well his trumpet was designed to look kinda like Dizzy Gillespie’s. You know you’ve made it when a manufacturer just gives you a custom-made trumpet XD
Victoria Beke Actually it’s a type of trumpet called firebird. Made by the instrument makers at firebird the brand which both Dizzy and Christian bought their trumpets at. So it’s not made to look like dizzy’s trumpet. It’s made to look like a firebird.
Listen you have to have some infinite lungs to blow this type of music and jump at the same time! What a show! Finally something worth the money people pay for a concert !
If you could encapsulate the term "pure unadulterated funk" into a capsule, feed it to a man, then have that man serve his life into making the perfect funk masterpiece, this would still be funkier.

me *goes to all region jazz auditions* :*hears him playing the audition before me* :*he walks out of room* me: "hey i mean ill carry ur case if u want"
this is such a legendary performance I believe every musician must see this, it’s a masterclass in entrepreneurship and honestly getting the most out of making the music you love
I come back to this video several times a year. I've watched him since he was busking in the subways and then to see him on stage with a full orchestra AND doing his thing......... WOW, I got to say I'm so very proud of him. We ALL are!!!!🎷🎷🎷🎷
Leo Pellegrino is my favourite saxophonist of all time, I have never ever heard any one play like him, I have never seen anyone dance like him playing at the same time, his awesome cool fashion style and never heard someone do saxophone techno jazz. He honestly make professionals look inexperienced. He deserves all the success from his hard work. I also saw a video recently called Leo P Donuts he does a duo with youtuber 2SAXY they compliment one another quite well.
Right after that one hander he really starts flexing some traditional digital patterns followed by some fierce punches... As free as he plays he speaks with a wealth of knowledge.
5:07 onwards. Damn that rhythm section is so on point during that trumpet solo & then Leo’s too! The syncopation of the piano comping & accompaniment with the drums & base: AWESOME. Love that little piano riff just before the trumpet solo starts too, sets the tone perfectly!
I don't think they could be separated. Like talking to someone who doesn't blink. It would be the same conversation but not have the same kind of life to it.
What a combination of talent to have both Christian Scott and Leo P at the same venue. For those who haven’t seen it, they should go check out Christian’s NPR Tiny Desk concert.
Leo P is THE GREATEST baritone sax player, hands down!! The amount of air needed to even play one note is 3 times what you need for an alto sax! AND he can play altissimo which are the notes an octave higher than the instrument allows which requires an incredibly strong embechure and airflow!!
As a saxophone player, I cannot stress how good this guy is and how amazed I am by him. To be able to play like that while jumping around and doing some awesome dance movies is so hard, especially when you look at what he is playing
I watched this youtube in 2019, first time seeing Leo P. That same year I saw Lucky Chops opened for Gogol Bordello, not knowing who Lucky Chops were, discovered later on Leo P used to be in that band. Then saw he formed a band Too Many Zooz and did a viral video in the subway, thinking he'll never come to my area. Then.. Moon Hooch, Lucky Chops, Too Many Zooz tour.. my city on this list. Saw them yesterday, what a fantastic show!!
