Same. I can’t count how many men have said they would have dropped my ex-husband on the edge of town or intervened in some kind of savior way. However, when I was in the midst of it…all the men in the room did was stare uncomfortably at the floor. A few would talk him down by suggesting they go elsewhere but none ever stopped it or addressed it outright. There were no services out there either. The only thing that did happen after 17 years when the state found out; they took my children from me for failure to protect them from witnessing him beat me.

My husband had a “Judge” the gun along with many other types of guns. He was retired military after 24 years and loved his guns, some were handed down from family and others he bought legally. He passed away unexpectedly on Valentines Day in 2021 and I currently no longer own hardly any of the guns anymore He was only 53 when he passed away! Absolutely love this song and video!
I know you said you hoped he wouldnt go to jail. But, in reality, there was no way for him not to. Had he killed the guy while he was beating the girl, then he would have been fine. But she was out of the house and away from danger at the time. He broke down the guys door with the intent to do harm. So he became the aggressor. That is why he went to jail. That said, it is obvious thst the guy had it coming. Also, Hardy's character likely knew going in what the outcome would be. The point of the song is that he did so willingly. He excanged his freedom for hers, basically. Also... When you hear him asking for mercy, its not from the court. Its from the lord. He is willing to face the consequences of his actions. He just hopes that the Lord will forgive him in the end.

Unfortunately, I guess the judge had to pass that sentence since the truck driver actually broke into the abuser's home. When the abuser tried to defend himself against this stranger breaking in, that's when the driver used his own weapon and he knew then and there his fate was sealed. Which is why he laid his gun on the hood and "waited for the cops to come." Brought tears to my eyes because 3 lives were forever changed that night. Powerful video/song!
To add to the other comments... he was not a bad man, he was not an evil man... perhaps he grew up in a house of abuse.... as he knew what had happened to her without asking... he was a man who saw a need, saw an evil and acted on that need and evil. He was a man of faith (evidenced by the court scene bridge (Oh Lord have mercy on me was not asked to the court system... it was a plea to God) and visibly evidenced by the cross hanging on his rear view mirror... was his action legal, obviously not based on the trial, was it morally just.... that is up to each individual for you cannot legislate morality... but for every victim of DV, he would be an answered prayer... and for every man... the story forces the question... "what would I do?" I recently picked up on another aspect of the acting...you can see the transfer of 'weight' from the weight on her as a DV victim... to him, as the reality of what he did sank in looking at the body on the floor... she has her weight lifted as she no longer has to live that life... and the weight of the decision he made settles onto his shoulders, heart and mind.
I'm tellin ya, down in the South, there would be no questions asked if a man laid a hand on a woman to kill him or castrate his balls like cattle is done. I've been in that very situation years ago up in Illinois, I got to the point when I was getting beaten every day to call my Dad when he wasn't around (parents were born/raised in AR) and asked him to come get me and my son and bring us back to AR. When he arrived, thankfully, my ex was gone to work because my Dad had a loaded pistol on him and was ready to kill him. I grew up a Navy brat as Dad was in the military for 28yrs, but his roots never left him. So, yea, that country song could be true in some places. BTW, when a man tells a woman to wait in the truck, he's fixin to take care of bizness.

This song is so emotionally draining. I didn’t listen to it to begin with because I assumed he was a wife beater (not sure why). But when I did….man. I was in shock.
This song sends such a horrible message to young women out there, in fact all it does is help reinforce all the basic mentality that leads to women finding themselves in an abusive situation, how can people not see that!!?? What is wrong with today's country music and those that listen to it, my God, I'm so glad most of the greats like Cash, Hank Sr., Glen Campbell, Tammy Wynette, Loretta Lynn and others like them aren't around to see this garbage, they're probably rolling over in their grave. Especially Tammy n Loretta, they both had tough upbringings, and suffered from abuse at the hands of men, and I can promise you they advocated for the EXACT opposite message this song is sending. It truly saddens me at the amount of people commenting and praising this song's message. Come on folks do better, especially if you have kids, daughters or sons!

Everyone says they would end him and he'd disappear if this happened to their female ______. But no one does. No one comes. No one finishes it. No one does sh!t. One time in jail. Two times in jail. Papers that say no no, but they're free to stalk and traumatize you until it happens again, because papers don't mean squat. I wonder if "everyone" will finally come to the funeral.
