Leon is joined by Brand New Heavies' Carleen Anderson and Michael Franti of Spearhead on a special and intimate set at the Paradiso venue in Amsterdam.
Backed by Leon's own DOX Orchestra, and the Zapp! string quartet, he re-arranged and re-mixed a selection of his own masterpieces.
Here, Leon gives a rendition of the classic soul track he and close soul-mate Marvin Gaye penned for the seminal 1976 'I Want You' album.
" Let me say this, it was the dearest moment I ever had in my life; the artist was Marvin Gaye and the song is I Want You. "

I was the Bassplayer during this great concert. And I remember when we played this song, there was magic in the air and I got really emotional while playing it. Beautiful memory !

Had to be magical. I'm also a bass player and would give the world to just play this one song with Leon. This is around the time when he started coming around again same voice as the 70s and freaked everybody out. How was it being in his presence? I know he had a great soul. Did he smoke weed with u all in the dam? This is one of my fantasy concerts I would have wanted to experience. Much love, god bless

Some don't realize that Leon's not copying Marvin, but Leon wrote this song. However, he worked closely with Marvin on material he wrote. He has writing for Michael Jackson as well!

This is awesome. Leon wrote a masterpiece of a song, and he (no matter how old he is in this video) and the rest of these talented musicians perform a version of his song that does justice to Marvin's.

Leon is the man no doubt but sometimes a singer can give a song even if he didn't write it his own personal touch thus making it his own. That's what Marvine Gaye did to "I Want You." Note what Leon says in the beginning "the dearest moment in his life." Acknowledging the greatness of Mr. Gaye. That's humbling. This is a boss concert wish I was there.

Why do I cry seeing this when the song is full of sensual touch, not for kids, adult, blah, blah, blah. The song as a whole touches on the very existence of us human being. This particular live performance by the author seems to embrace what us human being should all aspire to, not only sexuality but also sense of respect and co-existence of and with others. Those two reasons come to my mind.

Absolutely beautiful.....where is this kind of music today? Beautiful melody, lyrics and background vocals are oh so pretty. There is no one like Marvin, but Leon Ware is the only vocalist to do this song justice similar to Marvin. LOVE IT!

It just dawned on me how many people were impacted by MG's music. Just look throughout the room. People of races, from the musicians to the audience are jamming to the song. It just goes to show that MG's music had no color barrier. It's great to see people of different races together for a common purpose. Listening to great music, That's just my .02.

Although the credit to the songwriters is kind of hidden in the description above (and partially incorrect), this is actually a Leon Ware song. Leon and the late Arthur Ross both wrote this for Marvin's 1976 album of the same title.

Been listening to Leon for the last 5 years. I Found his music through hip hop. He wrote for so many people, that I am speechless from Tina turner jackson 5 to even Maxwell. I am like speechless! Leon's Ware's co-written composition of "I Want You" with T-Boy Ross is a stand out. Originally intended for his own album, Berry Gordy insisted that Marvin release his version first. In the end, T-Boy Ross and Leon both got to record this, as did T-Boy's sister, Diana. A timeless reflection on love!

Wow such an intimate setting. You see the musicians right close to you. That must be really really nice. Good job to all the musicians on this song. Of course Mr Ware did justice to his original song made famous by Marvin Gaye. Rest in peace to both gentlemen.
