I was in construction as a young man and i was building a set of brick stairs up to the front of a house on a hill. I was only up a couple steps when a car stopped behind me on the street. It was William Shatner. He rolled down the window and i could see him and a dog. He was genuinely interested in what, and how, I was building the steps. We talked for a few minutes then he left. He stopped by every day for the couple weeks i was the building them. We talked each time. He really was a nice guy and when i was done he congratulated me on a great job. He said something that made me think the last day i saw him. He said that my stairs would be there long after i had passed on. I said back, just like your TV and movies will. He smiled and said yes, you are right. He waved and drove up the hill.

I was at an auto show back in the 1980's at the Commonwealth Pier Exhibition Hall in Boston, my friend and i were walking around looking at the various cars and my friend mentioned to me that it was not an uncommon practice for some showing their cars to make them appear to be something they're not, like adding bumper and tail pieces to make a regular Charger into a look alike Daytona Charger and things like that, well i was crawling under the ropes and looking underneath some of the cars to see if that were true, i crawled out from under the ropes around one car and my buddy said "see i told ya" and at that moment someone behind me tapped my shoulder and asked "so whaddya you think about this one?" when i turned to answer, there was William Shatner staring me in the face, i took a double take and answered that i could see it was altered, he smiled and said "what a shame". All the while though the look on his face was saying "please dont blurt out Hey its William Shatner!!!". I didn't, and my friend and i continued on our way and he disappeared into the crowd. Well later in the day he was signing autographs and promoting the latest Star Trek thing going on at the time so we got in line and when we made it up to the table he was at on the makeshift stage he looked up and so "ohh it you guys! , I wanted to thank you for not giving me away in the crowd earlier! I don't usually get to do things like that" (wander around looking at cars without being fawned over i guess). It was really no big deal i guess, but my friend commented as we walked of the stage "wow, i would never had guessed he's just a regular guy like us" . There was a lounge type area in the building where alcohol was served and while we were standing at the bar, the bartender came over and put two shot glasses top down in front of us, i asked why because we hadn't ordered anything beyond what we were already drinking, and the bartender said "complements of your friend at the end of the bar", we looked over and it was William Shatner, He looked our way, raised his glass and winked. The End😂, Like the first guys story and what my friend had said, William Shatner, at least in this instance just seemed to be a normal everyday kind of guy, not a snotty full of himself TV/Movie star snob.

I had a friend, he was an actor, (a damn good one, pulling down better & better parts). My friend was dating Leonard Nimoy's daughter. Well, he & the daughter went their separate ways. My friend then married another girl I knew from Milwaukee. He took a part playing Tom Sawyer for a TV broadcast. They had a child that had some serious problems, & needed hospitalization. My friend gave up acting to get a job to pay for the bills. Leonard Nimoy found out about this situation, stepped in & payed the hospital costs. Live long & prosper (English), dif-tor heh smusma (Vulcan), Shalom aleichem (Hebrew), Salaam alaykum (Arabic). Peace be upon you!

I still dont get George Takei's beef with Shatner. George spends more time talking shit (jokingly as well) about the people he's worked with over the years than he does giving them respect. Say what you will of Bill, but as far as I can tell he has a calmer and more respectful demeanor than George. People like to see a feud but all I see is a an elderly man who's more bitter than he should be. George's career has been a great one so why obsess over Bill?
@warrenny
@warrenny 4 года назад
Lacy, I agree in part. Shatner seems like a fun practical joker type with big personality. If you like that kind of person, then he would be a fun guy. However, I think he liked to make jokes at others colleagues' expense: Shatner might make jokes about your piercings for example. Either you can laugh along with him or take it personally. Some people prefer to work in a more conservative environment free from jokes; others enjoy the gaiety of a dynamic work environment. There is no right answer, just different kinds of people.

Let's face it William Shatner was Star Trek. Without Bill willing to do whatever it took to keep the series on the screen, Star Trek would never have developed into movies, and follow on series like Deepspace 9, and 2nd Generation. It was him willing to battle ridiculous monsters, and act through childlike adventures, that took the series definitely where no man had bodly gone before.

Hollywood has been seat of humanity's single most educational use of media, and the most important component of that has been Roddenberry/Shatner/Nimoy. Startrek monitored and quantified all the sensory data a human being can perceive, and Fairfield communications grad school showed all of that commonly at our disposal in the detective work of exploring the future where no man's gone before, where in freedom under God the needs of the one outweigh the needs of the many.

I enjoy William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, and DeForest Kelley. These 3 people made Star Trek great. Those 3 made the show! All of the other actors on Star Trek were replaceable, with the possible exception of Jimmy Doohan as Mr. Scott. I also, feel Jimmy Doohan was a very good actor. Walter Koenig got better when he took a Babylon 5 role as a bad guy.

As it is with any group that becomes famous the group comes together as a whole. Chemistry. It has to spark and click to work. Look at the Beatles. The right group makes it work,makes it whole. Set a course Mr Sulu.

I understand what you're saying, but I have to disagree. The entire cast were unforgettable. I was six when Star Trek aired for the first time and I wanted to be just like Captain Kirk. (I dreamed I could be a Starship Captain Hero!) But I always loved the entire cast. Every one of them was an integral part of the show that to me made them all irreplaceable. I couldn't imagine Star Trek without each and every one of them. George Takei, Nichelle Nichols, Majel Barrett Rodenberry and all the rest. Even the more obscure regulars like John Winston and Bruce Hyde just seemed to fit so perfectly into the ST universe. Remember Lt. Riley singing "I'll take you home again, Kathleen"? Man, I laughed so hard at that. He was great. I also recall being so disappointed when Walter Koenig was not present in the Animated Series. To me, they're all great and immortal ST personalities and the show wouldn't have been as good without them.

Why do I get the feeling that Shatner is never truly genuine, like he's always "acting"? He's just talking to his guests to have a show and nothing more. It's kind of strange that even as himself and not Kirk, he still talks is that odd halting manner. With Nimoy, I feel like I could hang out with him, talk with him and feel that he's really there to have an involved conversation with and wouldn't feign interest or blow off what I had to say, my opinions or feelings about things. He would ask me questions about things and really want to hear what I had to say. Leonard always seemed genuine to me.

Shatner cares very much about the people he cares about but not as much outside that, and it was easy to get on his bad side. That is why there are good stories and bad stories about him. However pretty much across the board people loved Nimoy and he returned it. Shatner and Nimoy were friends, that wasn't fake, but many times Shatner was a jerk to others.

William Shatner has been very successful because he is a very dynamic person. He is more than a "One Trick Pony." If not, his role as Captain James Tiberias Kick would have been his defining moment, his defining role. You can not define him because he brings a plethora of experience, interests, stories, energy but most important to him, LOVE. He feels everything in life, your choices, experiences, personal triumphs is due to LOVE. That is what he brings to the table, that is what he is about, that is who he is. That is why his fans flock to hear him speak 60 years later. They love him.

weirdly enough he was a sort of male symbol for a while, they even had a sexy magazine article on him. my grandma doesn't really like the show but her and all her friends were in love with him. I have seen a young nimoy in perry mason, twilight zone, and a few old movies and he was actually quite good looking. there's this episode of dragnet where he played a street thug and hot dang ;) (not a fan of the mustache phases tho lol)

Was talking to my son tonight about Boston Legal - and he said "Shatner was amazing in Boston Legal - he never got enough credit for making that show as good as it was." I had to agree - no matter what the subject matter, no matter how much people may have expected Spader to "take the scene" Shatner really got the character precisely right - convincing, believable, masterful. I've been enjoying William Shatner's work since the original Star Trek. We discussed how cool it would be to have Shatner and Chris Pine meet in some alternate universe Star Trek movie. I can dream....

I understand that JJ Abrams, Roberto Orci, et al., expressly dismissed the real Captain James T Kirk reprising his best-known role. I heard Mr. Shatner voicing his availability for just such a venture. The show runners evidently gave no reply.

Had totally forgotten Shatner's interview show which I never missed and would record on video tape. NOW, you can't even buy a VHS tape recorder. StarTrek was one of my favorite shows, even the plots were usually feel-good wishy-washy. BUT, Wm.Shatner's interviews were the best, head and shoulders better than ALL the other interviews (Dick Cavett, Jack Paar, Oprah, Baba Wawa,) Nobody else even came close to Shatner. He was truly curious, sympathetic, intelligent and fascinating to listen to.

I LOVE William Shatner! I started loving him as a child. I sent him a letter when I was about 13 or so and I got a reply from his fan club. It was just a form letter with a stamped signature, but I was still thrilled to have gotten a response at all. I kept that letter for years until I finally lost it. I was pissed that I lost it. I still think he is so handsome! 😍😍

“Knowledge you could bring with you in case you had to run.” This was the reality for European Jews as well as many other folks. Shatner and Nimoy were both Jewish; this stuff is hardwired for generations, but given a free(er) society one can overcome. But never forget.
