Leonardo DiCaprio vs. Acting

From Critters 3 to Killers of the Flower Moon Leonardo DiCaprio has done it all. We've seen him yell, drink, yell, cry, drink, shout, make weird faces, yell, and drink but how good of an actor is he really. What does good acting even look like? Who knows? Certainly not me but here's a video on it anyway. Tune in next week where I analyze the underrated tour de force performance of Ashton Kutcher in the 2000 comedy smash hit Dude, Where's My Car.

Watching the 'Killers of the Flower Moon' raised the exact same question in me! I just couldn't decide if Leo was good or not. Lily and De Niro for sure, but Leo was really ambiguous.

too much with the face...... He def had his great moments but most of the time his impression was so over the top. Clearly a real talent but he can be a lot definitely. Comparing his acting to Gladstone's and DeNiro's who were so much more natural, it feels like overacting.

Great video! And yeah honestly while he's absolutely fantastic in something like Wolf of Wall Street or Once Upon a time in Hollywood, i feel like people don't see great acting as it tends to be subtle, and so they miss it. Its a lot easier to see what Leo is doing as he's trying really hard. Its kind of like how the average person's idea of a rich person is trump while most rich people are much more subtle about their wealth, and might even fly under the radar. Great video regardless tho!

I think the way to measure an actors abilities is how convincing they are in that role

Well that's true, but also displays Leo giving the same performance far too often. Shutter Island, The Departed, Inception, Gangs of New York are examples of him giving almost the same performance each time.

He's definitely an over-actor, always has been. He's charismatic for sure, and has bags of talent, but for me he's not in the big leagues. He has less in common with his idol De Niro and more with Tom Cruise - an "A-lister" who always get the lead role and the close-ups where they can overemote in the mistaken belief that it's the best kind of performing. Thank God he didn't take the Patrick Bateman role in American Psycho (passed on it cos it was too controversial) allowing Bale to step in and give one of the best performances of the 21st century This reminds me of Heath Ledger's comment about Philip Seymour Hoffman winning the Oscar for Capote "I though it was awarded for the BEST acting, not the MOST acting"

Great video as always! I'm curious to why you hated Don't Look Up so much

This video is wrong on so many levels. Clearly he has not seen, or is ignoring DiCaprios filmography. To try and simplify DiCaprios characters as man with gun or criminal is to ignore how different those characters are. You might as well say he only plays characters with two legs. It ignores the vast range of characters he plays.

I never see DiCaprio acting. I see characters he plays dealing with mentle trauma but I never see acting. The poster should watch a film the whole way through and not just the emotional scenes. As for playing ordinery people who the f was Jack Dawnson meant to be.

Exactly my thoughts as well. Whenever he appears, all I see is an overpaid actor who's desperately trying to act. It's incredibly distracting and ruins the entire movie.

Did the poster ever see Revolutinary Road. It has one of the best performances DiCaprio ever give, is 100 percent an ordinary character and 100 percent naturel. Ever see Titanic. The same. The poster has not seen DiCaprios main filmography.

Martin Scorsese continually wants to work with him (he could literally have any actor in world in his films, he’s MARTIN FRIGGIN’ SCORCESE!) and says his performance in KOTFM floored even him! No offense, but I think I have to go with Mr. Scorcese’s opinion on Leo’s abilities.

I agree 100% with this video. The Tom Hardy thing was funny because in some interview after The Revenant, he basically said he didn't have time to work on the character because he just wrapped something else, like, two days before he started on the project, so he just did an impersonation of Tom Berenger from Platoon.
