I don't think I have enjoyed anything on youtube more than the 4 part interview of this amazingly wonderful singer and amazingly wonderful person. I am so glad my celebration of Black History led me here.
Thank you so much for posting this. I had to watch all 4 parts twice because it was so interesting and I loved hearing about the life and career of this amazing woman.
Fabulous! Thank you so much for posting this series. I'm especially glad she mentioned her "Knoxville: Summer of 1915" recording: one of my all time favorite recordings & now I understand better why. What a remarkable woman.
No other voice ever sounded like Leontyne Price in the Met Opera, no one. She could sing the softest line and you could hear her if you were in the Men's Room! It felt at times as if some divine presence was in her, and the unearthly sounds that came from that throat had healed of whatever malady you might be feeling at the time.
Yes - I would like to change the end of the plot so Aida survives and flees to her own country and lives happily ever after. But then we would not have the last part of act 4 - which is my favorite part of Aida- a masterpiece of great music - so just for the sake of perfection I would keep the plot the way it is with the tomb scene as well.
She's highly entertaining. Despite her personal preference for Aida, I think Tosca is Ms. Price's greatest role. Her voice is perfect for the music of Tosca.
I heard Ms. Price in Columbus, Ohio, at Mershon Auditorium when I was a graduate student. A wonderful concert, of course. Afterward, we spoke and she allowed me to photograph her. I am hoping I will get a chance to see her the next time I am in New York City. Just wishing and hoping, but who knows?
