Just so you know, she received a 42-minute ovation at the end of her Metropolitan Opera debut in 1961 in Verdi's opera "Il Trovatore." It is the longest ovation ever recorded in that house, and it will never be surpassed since the Old Met no longer exists, and those who were recording this historic event of her debut lost count after her 30th curtain call!!! In my humble opinion, Price is the greatest singer ever; and hers is the most beautiful voice I have ever heard.
Applause: She got 3 minutes after the aria, half an hour at the end of the evening. It was her farewell to opera, at age 58, after 24 years at the Met, 28 years in opera altogether.
I believe she had just turned 59 during her 1985 farewell performance.. she did make quite a few guests performances even in her sixties.. that is unheard of even in her eighties she would blow your mind away at how she could still sing.. sing some

Here is some context for those unfamiliar with opera. This was performed in The Met at Lincoln Centre, an auditorium with over 4000 seats. The performers DO NOT use microphones. They deliver this music to the audience, raw, unamplified, unembellished. Does this information further elevate your opinion?
How that phrase "Diva" is bandied about for female pop stars. Leontyne Price is the real thing. She performs from a depth of emotion and musicianship that that comes from the core of her being and takes you to another world altogether.
I am fortunate to have attended a recital by Leontyne Price in Richmond, VA in the early 1980s. With no microphone, her voice powerfully filled the entire auditorium with clear, luscious, and beautiful sound while conveying every nuance of emotion in the songs. She performed six encores and received seven well deserved standing ovations! Brava Diva Price!
At her Met Opera debut in 1961, the ovation lasted 42 minutes. She made two or three memorable recordings of Aida. My favorite is from 1961(?) with Vickers and Merrill. It is far and away the greatest performance of the opera ever made. Have a listen - you can find it on RU-vid.
For context, as to why this performance was SO emotional, this was her signature role, and her farewell to the Metropolitan Opera, at the end of a remarkable 24 year career there. She is a much-beloved singer, and at 58, her age when this performance happened, she was toward the very end of her formal career. You can see the emotion in her face as she stood there, stoically accepting the love pouring forth from the audience. It stands as one of the most memorable moments from the entire collection of filmed performances from the Met.
I did see this performance on public television as a younger person while watching with my father. I didn't get the impact of it at the time. It is one of the most amazing and spectacular "farewell" performances ever capture on film. Thank you, Hawksmere, for reminding us.
In late 1959 or early 1960 I was part of a high school class group that went to see the San Francisco Opera production of Aida with a young Ms Price in the leading role. We were up in the cheap seats of the last balcony, surrounded by a large group of Italians who had apparently come to the US to hear her. The applause for her went on for 20 minutes; my hands hurt.
She is simply unmatched. She was the first voice to attract my attention many years ago. The strange "bitterness" in her voice is overwhelming to me. She has the most beautiful voice I have ever heard. The first opera love is the love forever. Never-ending admiration for her. And you for a nice video. She crushed you indeed nicely. I feel the same.

Leontyne Price was just shy of 59 years old when she sang her last farewell performance at the Met.. it is unheard of for someone that age to be able to sing like that and she still made guest appearances well in her sixties..
Oh my! I am dying. What a glorious voice, one of the greatest ever. Thank you for this. Leontyne Price is one of my favourite singers, along with Maria Callas and so many others. It wouldn't hurt to do a little research so that you will know more about what you're talking about. The reason she received such a long 40 min standing ovation was because it was her farewell met performance at the age of 59 ..
I saw that you made a reaction to Diana Ankudinova, but the video was blocked. Some of the ways to help you if video is blocked by video image. 1. the size of the video should not exceed 30 seconds, so cut the video into 20-30 second fragments and make anti-copyright inserts between them. 2. use any video filters, for example, you can make the video translucent or mirror image, in extreme cases, you can close the video altogether, but leave the sound. 3. change the aspect ratio of the video or reduce the built-in video image to 1/8 or less of the full-size video. 4. You can unblock the video through an appeal, for this you download the video with a delayed time of 2 days and immediately file an appeal, many reviewers said that after 2 days the reaction is completely unblocked. It would be much better if they could upload the full reaction with a timer after 2 days, file an appeal immediately, and after 2 days the video would be fully available to everyone. What is a timer for? With a timer, the video will not disappear from the current RU-vid search and, accordingly, there will be more views.
What a nice reaction. I think the opera fans here appreciate you sharing your soul here. It is indeed so moving. She was born and came up in Laurel Mississippi and was noticed singing as her mother cleaned houses by a white couple who sponsored her training. My best friend and her mother created a park in Laurel dedicated to Ms. Price. Opera is known for long ovations for outstanding aria performances, but 30 mins or 40 plus are beyond record breaking. She was the standard of the Met and that was certainly her house.
Ps no means of exalting white people for sponsoring her training only pointing out the situation and the point in history in which Ms. Price was dealing with in order to thrive. May we cling to the arts right now by supporting young artists so we can continue to witness humanity sore!

This was the B side of ThunderBall This is a perfect example of Tom Jones’ poor choice in management. Lol. Jones is one of the all time greatest singers. His voice was made for rock like Karen Carpenters was made for her Genre. What Jones needed was to be introduced to great rock musicians. What he didn’t need was to be tied down in Vegas to become the consummate “ lounge lizard” While this isn’t a straight up rock song it’s close enough and It allows us to see all the potential that was wasted Ahhhh.
