This is the rcvideoreviews.com power and thrust test of the Leopard 2830-9T 1290Kv Brushless motor.
This video is sponsored by Altitude Hobbies who provided the Leopard Motor for review. Altitude is my go-to source for Leopard motors and now Lemon DSM compatible receivers. Make sure to give them a look if you want to give one of these Leopard motors a go.

You know I’m a huge Leopard Motor fan. I also like the Value Hobby motor. I use both. I tend to lean more to Leopard because I feel it’s going to have a longer lifespan.

Leopards are a top shelf motor. I'm not sure how big or small a following they have but I don't see or hear people at the field talking about them which is a shame. They're missing out. Good to hear from you. Thought you dropped off YT for a while...

Leopard motors are great! They had the best option for my Sig Senior 2m wingspan. I considered axi, hacker, scorpion, eflite, but the leopard was the best specs wise for my application.

I love Leopard motors. They've always performed to spec and they're affordable.

Just looked up your sponsor (Altitude Hobbies) and discovered that they sell Lemon receivers. Good to know since I heard there is a LOOOONNNGGGG delay getting receivers from Lemon directly from China.

Looking forward to the Sabre video! I bought the Wargo MX2 due to your comments on the HK version of it... Hope I made a good investment.

I don't think the Wargo version is EPP...? Don't worry, the MX2 acquits itself well.

Hi John. excellent review, many thanks. However, I have a question. Both the props you tested gave an amp reading well above the safe limit of 18a. Granted they were tested in the open air, but how would that compare with fitted in an airframe? I have a Skylark S, same as an earlier review of yours, which I plan to run on 3s with a 9 x 5 GWS prop. Do you think this motor would be suitable? Thanks jeff

@RCVideoReviews 3 года назад
Motors are a little less sensitive to amps than things like ESCs. This one saw 23a against a peak of 18a, but that was also a static test. Dynamic current (in flight) will be lower. Even if it only dropped 2 or 3 amps in flight, going one or two amps over peak isn't going to hurt it. Especially since the moment you start using battery the maximum current will decrease. This motor would be good in a Skylark.

Hey John, excellent review bud and nice little motor,... what is your setup that you found to be happy with so far, ESC, servos, receiver etc.. for the MX2,.... was trying to go back in your vids but didn't see your actual complete hardware list for the plane... Looking to pick one up myself,.. thx... Cheers!!

On the MX2 I have Generic 9g Towerpro Servos, a ZTW 40a ESC and a Turnigy 2830 1100Kv motor, and an old 4 Channel FrSky park fly Rx. I'm going to shift some things around though. The Leopard will go in the Saber. The Lemon Rx will go in the MX2.

@@RCVideoReviews Nice!... ya looking to pull the trigger on this plane after your review,.. friggen back ordered as usual,... didn't want the Wargo, as I believe its foam covered balsa...Need a nice basher too......and ez patchwork if that lol! Enjoyed watching you putting it through its paces though, as I'm not a 3D guy either.....yet ;D..... Def picked up a lot from you bud, .. very cool plane....thx J! How's that turnigy 2830? good or eh? let me know ... Cheers!

@@tamaman1559 The MX2 is a great little plane to start learning 3D techniques--no doubt about it. I do things with that plane I'd never do with a balsa plane. Dave chuckled a bit at the stuff I was doing last time at the field with that one. Turnigy is ok, I used it because I had it. Get a Sunnysky or Leopard.

@@tamaman1559 The one in this video would be good. 2830 1290Kv. It made 266w on 23a. That'll give you 221w/lb which is more than enough.

I like the leopards too. Hey I have a question. I bound my Aeroscout(DSMX)to my TX16 and I don’t think I lost the signal, but Amber is complaining that RSSI is low or critical. Do I have a setting wrong? Again, I think I had control of my plane the whole time. Thanks for the TX16 videos, they’re very helpful.
@RCVideoReviews
@RCVideoReviews 4 года назад
One of the problems using receivers outside of their (tx) ecosystem is the interpretation of RSSI. There are four things I would suggest: 1) Google for the expected range of RSSI on the TX16s for your specific transmitter. You're probably not the first person to encounter an issue. 2) Google to find out if RSSI is the primary signal strength metric for that Rx and the TX16s. I've found on FlySky for example the primary indicator of signal strength is RQly. 3) Look into fine tuning the frequency for you Rx. I've tried it on a handful of FrSky Rxs and have not been able to improve RSSI over the unmodified values, but the code is in the firmware and it is suggested to try. 4) Perform a range check and make sure the range check operates as it should.
