Generation of thermal sights do not refer to the image quality. It's about how they are constructed. 2nd gen has a tilting mirror, a rotating prism and a thermal detector array. 3rd gen has no moving prisms and no tilting mirror. It has a two dimensional focal plane array. While 3rd gen is generally better performing than 2nd there are still massive differences between 3rd generation thermal imagers from different manufacturers.
The Leo is really a beast...dont forget the Gun Upgrade from L55 to L55a1 Rheinmetall gun (since A7V) and the new ammunition that the L55a1 can use. There will come much more better ammunition which is in development.
It used to be common for tanks to drive on the road next to civil cars. We locals were always careful, but a lot of tourists made pictures and where to close to them. When the tanks lost their track pads, cars' windshields cracked and/or got dents on the hood.
MTU V-10 cylinder engine with two massive turbo charger. I drove a Leo 1 tank, also with a MTU V-10 cylinder engine but with only 830 hp :-) but also a great sound :-)
The Leopard 2 use Not a 10 cylinder...He has a 12 cylinder MTU DB 873 with 1500 HP and in the latest Version a8 with 1600hp. But you are right ...the Sound of the Leopard 1 with His 10 cylinder MTU Engine is also amazing.
