note about heating pads- they can often overheat when not being used with a thermostat, I've seen reptiles die from burns or from a secondary infection after being burned by a heat mat that was not regulated by a thermostat

I’m adopting ferrets next month that someone was rehoming on Craigslist. I was super worried about looking on there but the seller was very focused on finding the right home and turned down many people before me. They wanted the ferrets rehomed before thanksgiving but are waiting for me to get back from a trip I’m going on because they’d rather have a good home than a fast sale. It warmed my heart and I’m so excited to get my boys soon ❤️

Your videos influenced me to rescue a hamster instead of buying. I have watched videos of how to take care of them for six or so years, but she is my first hammy. I rescued mine on friday, from a similar website from Brazil, she had a cage with 523 sq cm with no wheel, just pine pellets, food and water. I made her a bin cage, the best way I could. She is named Avelã (Hazel nut in portuguese), she is so happy running on her wheel and making her nest! Thank you so much!

I had a customer come in to the pet store I work at that wanted to get a female betta fish so they could breed it with the male they already have but instead of getting the correct setup up for breeding them and said well if the male kills the female they will just come in and get another female and see if that works that infuriated me

The one at 8:00 is so sad, sounds like the kid just went out and got it and the adult posted it for sale forcefully after finding it neglected. The parent didn't even know what animal it was!

I own 2 Leos (males in separate tanks!!) and one thing I'll chip in is that loose substrate is generally not recommended at all unless the setup is bioactive. I personally use nonadhesive shelf liner from Target. Cheap, easy to clean, and looks nice! Reptile carpet can be used too, but it's much harder to clean and Leos can sometimes get their little claws (and mouths D:) stuck in it.

As you mentioned in another video that Germany is quite good on hamstercare I looked up a few sites which all give the same informations. a) At minimum 4000square cm (620square inches) base space b) at least 45cm (18 inches) in hight c) if secondary level are intalled, thing beechwood is to be prefered NO composit woods NO wire mesh anywehre d) for bedding bark mulch without any conifer parts, added hay for food and cheap hight gain for bedding at least 4 inches e) fine sand either in a wood or porcelan container or just in an seperate area for fur dusting f) Placement not below 65cm (25inches) above ground not above 1m (40inches) g) at least one preferably 2 sides blacked out h) temperature between 64F and 78F i) humidity not above 70% j) not directly infront of a window or a heater k) hideout at least 300suqre cm (46square inches) at least 2 hideoutes l) 2 food bowls, one for dry foods( sonflower seeds, peanuts, bird seed mixture, rice), one for "wet foods" apples pieces, paprika, sweet corn, chives (at least 2 inces in diameter) m) small waterbottle to ensure daily exchange, NO waterbowls - For germany tab water is prefered over bottled water as the quality is more restrictive (weird but true) n) a small salt licker o) I found 2 websites recomending a smal clay bowl with sand for toilets (it's been found taht hamsters naturally use those as a seperate toilet area) clay also helps dulling down claws p) a wheel depending on the size of the hamster best 10-12 inches made out of wood (yes germans love wood toys for everybod children animals and adults) NO balls (it can be used but should be avioded due to it's toylike apperance as well as it is an enclosure the hamster cannot escape and would panic it as it tryes to run faster it only stays inside.) q) depending on the species climing or hiding toys, chew toyes for everyone, and some stones to ensure a higher spot to sit on and overlook his area, change toys every 4-6 weeks to keep them engaged ( note: toys don't need to be bougt rearangement or switchting one toy every other week to another spare is enough) r) The enclosure should be a wood or plasic base with mesh wireing (max 8mm appart), if glas or platic houseing is used hight hsould not be more than depth to ensure air circulation. So taht took me about 5 minutes to figure out, realy sad to see that the petshops in the US seem not to care that much about the wellbeeing of the animal but the money they make (not generlising, but the petshop would be the fist point I'd go to get some infos first hand)

I paid to rescue 2 different hamsters off Craigslist. Each has 50 gallon bin now. Both were in tiny cages. bad diet. Such a great decision and watching them get healthy is so rewarding.

Munchie, I need to send you the ad that I rescued my leopard gecko from. They thought she was a he and she was literally skin and bone with stuck shed and mbd. She can't use her toes and has a regrown tail. Also she was rubbing her nose so bad that she rubbed her nostrils off. Yeah, idk. She's improving but its been a rough journey, and the lady's mom I got her from said that she has a bearded dragon, and I don't even want to know how it looks.

Thanks for your videos highlighting animal neglect etc. I was in a pet store the other day and a couple were looking for a hamster and were looking at cages that were tiny! Why are pet stores still selling them..

I used to have hamsters, but now I have rabbits and this lady on a bunny facebook group asked if her rabbit needed water.. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I’m sorry, but if you have to ask if your pet needs water, you shouldn’t have one.

I wish there was a pet store that didn’t sell starter ‘kits’ but instead starter ‘bundles’ where they sell the individual items (appropriate cage, appropriate wheel (for species), good chews, 2+ hides and plenty of enrichments, food, etc.)that make for a good home so that people don’t end up thinking that the starting kits are good. I may be more expensive up front, but you wouldn’t have to buy as many things again from having to upgrade, and also could save a trip to the vet.

2: Not fully neglected but improvements are definitely needed for hamster wellbeing and quality of life and you should watch the full video to understand why that is. Or: imagine a sliding scale where 5 is perfect care and 1 is neglect- you scored a 2 In all seriousness, just dont bother. If people are going to have issues with it then its more trouble than its worth. It would be better to not bother rating them and people have to judge for themselves based on all the points from the video rather than judging from a single number.

I have always been saving animals (my cats like to bring live animals into the house) and yeah keeping a seagull with a broken wing in my bedroom was fun lol. A single leopard gecko needs a t least a 20 gal, so that 3rd one shown would be a 2 for me

I don't have a Leo but I have done some research before I ended up researching beardies instead and getting a little beardie.With the three leos, coconut fiber is often the alternative or bioactive (where you have live plants and isopods and springtails). And sands just can't be digested so it gets stuck in the tract, sometimes getting bad enough that the gecko requires surgery or the gecko doesn't make it. Some people also use paper towel, newspaper, linoleum, or tile. Which isn't loose substrate and can be kept clean pretty easily. For quarentine, paper towel is awesome! While it doesn't give them the opportunity to dig, it lets you monitor stools and such. The minimum per adult gecko is 20 gallons, so they need 3 20 gallon or larger tanks. 29 is way too small for three geckos. Leos also need 3 hides minimum per gecko(warm, cool, moist), and a heat mat on a thermostat rather than a lamp. The moist hide is actually what helps them shed. I'm not sure if there was one in there, but my guess is no. I hope someone got that poor Leo to a vet!

He has great care in my opinion and I learned everything from you and Victoria Rachel. The only reason I had it is Because I never thought of it to be dangerous. You can cohab female leopard geckos.. It's the males the will fight but you can cohab femakes. Bigger the tank the more you can. You can also have one male mixed in but will breed.

If you think the "dwarf gerbil" is bad, you should see the one I saw tonight. Someone was rehoming a dwarf hamster and a gerbil but were unwilling to rehome them separately because they had them living IN THE SAME CAGE!!! They said they had always lived together and loved it other!!!! I was absolutely infuriated! As for rating, 2 should be, "Now that's bad," and 1 should be, "I don't want to live on this planet anymore."

I've read an identical ad before where the family had gotten a dog - so of course they couldn't keep their hamster (??). Poor little hamster being traded for a new pet. I have two dogs, two cats and a hamster.. It works just fine. It's not like you let your other pets anywhere near the hamster, right? Some people frustrate me so much...

A few month's ago when I went to my local pet store (I live in Germany ^^" sorry for my english) they told me that they dont want to sell trios of gerbils because the owners always come back with one gerbil who got kicked out of the group. They dont know why this happens all the time but I had the same experience with my mice. Anything went great but just from one day of the other day two mice where fighting just all day long and one got badly injured so I had to seperate them. I dont know why this happens so often but in many cases three mice or gerbils just dont work out even if they have enough space.

I missed your videos. You make me so happy. I had 10 mice and hamsters pass recently due to an unknown issue. You make me want to keep rescuing and get over my loss.

i feel really bad for all those animals i guess there are some good ones but there not even that good and i really love your videos and your hair.

I had 7 gerbils, Bc the pet store was dumb and gave us a boy and girl even tho we got 2 from female pens. We ended up with 7 babies. So we buy them cages. We put the 2 girls in one 4 boys in another and 3 boys in another. Fast forward now, the 2 girls are alive, and only 1 big from the quad and 1 boy from the triplets. We can’t put them together Bc they will fight eachother. So we just have to play with them a lot more than we would have to if they lived together.

Gerbils need tanks anyway. My gerbil is currently single as his partner died, praying at minute for a friend for him.

I use reptisoil for my leo and he has never had any problems with it. If you want substrate, I definitely recommend it over any sort if sand, especially calci sand!

The entire video is really great but just one thing. Leopard geckos are baskers and it is actually better to have a basking lamp for them instead of heat mats. They can't not actually feel the proper heat from their bellies and it does not heat their entire body. Lamps above a stone/slate area will provide safer "belly heat" and it will heat the air around them giving them actual temperature gradient instead of hot or not.

As a leopard gecko owner this is tragic! My leopard geckos tail is wide and full in some countries there known as 'fat tailed geckos' his tail was tiny! If she couldn't access a vet she could have looked up online videos you can help geckos with stuck she'd by giving them a bath and lightly peeling the skin off if it's not extreme!! 😭😭😭 Edit: regarding the first geckos the two males and one female

Oh my.that chew the hamster was on..I gave my baby bunny lots of that material and he ate lots of it,I thought it was edible.he did pass away at a few months old with no signs of disease..could that have killed him?he did eat multiple large toys made of that stuff...

I've seen several ads selling leopard geckos on kijiji lately and it infuriates me to no end. One girl had a 4-year-old male in with a female and was selling him because he "no longer gets along with female" like, hello! no shit he doesn't get along with the female because they aren't supposed to be housed together whatsoever and the male is probably constantly trying to mate with her. another one was a three year old female in a 20 gallon high tank, not long and she had stuck shed on her toes that apparently wouldn't come off. yet another person had an adult leopard gecko in a tank that looked smaller than my juvenile leo's 10 gallon and there was only one hide in it's tank. I wish I could take them home and give them the proper care and I really fucking wish people would educate themselves on an animals care
