If more players would try to improve themselves by looking thru tips or practicing viable battle strats instead of blaming others as noobs, teams would be SO much better.
Hey Taugrim. I really appreciate the knowledge you empart upon us. I feel so much more confident in my game play since I've started watching your videos aswell as 4tankersanddog's where to go map videos. I would love to see some mal tactics video's from you as well. keep up the great work. thank you
Thanks for taking the time to do this. In my opinion the difficulty involved with running this tank is a great for training in mediums in general. It's unforgiving nature requires thought for every move and heaps of patience. These are virtues that translate most other meds with much better armor and mobility. In short in an excellent trainer and victories feel more rewarding it.
Tbh the Leo 1 seems to be one of the most meta MTs right now. After the recent buff it is just like the PTA a pleasure to play. Of course it is not as idiot proof as the Objects and it is pretty hard to stand your ground on small maps with no opportunity for vision control.
It’s crazy that in a game where the tier 10 mediums used to only do like 320 alpha for the most part, 420 alpha at tier 9 isn’t considered “crushing”. The game really has changed a lot since I first started playing. This is my first tier 9 tank and I love it, thanks for the content
Thanks for the video dude, I’ve started watching you over the last month or so and my game has improved so much!! I’ve already gone up ~400 points and I’m having a lot more fun as I play. Keep up the awesome work!
The PTA is my all-time best stat & favourite tank. It's a glass cannon to the max, yes, but the gun and the mobility make it one of the most rewarding medium tanks. For me the funny thing is that I have great stats in my PTA and terrible stats in my Leo 1. I should also mention that I really like your Road to unicum videos. I've got so many new ideas, spots and angles I never thought of.
With 35 mm of side armor, you can side scrape anything with a 105 mm. But, that pretty much is anything non-Russian/Chinese, so it limits the potential - LOVE that you listed 8 positives that all get neutered by the 3 negatives. Oh German tanks... designed for RL greatness but reduced to sadness, in WoT. Another great video, Taugi... keep it up!
Love you so much for making this Video. The Leo pta is officially my favorite tank, despite its short comings. After 350 Games my % has stabilized at 55 ( which is super high for me). Ive got a nicely Trainer crew and put the captured gun rammer on it, so the reload goes down to as low as 8,4s! Dont even know wether or not I should Upgrade to T10 to be honest.
Gun handeling on Leo 1 is superior; i tryed it with food and you don't need to aim at all with it. So it is a step up from Leo PTa it is just that meta in tier X is fuckned right now, so playing tier IX is more enjoyable.
Thanks Taugrim - great Video on the Leopard PTA - You always have great informative content and we are all very much appreciative of your calm and insightful commentary...
I would have thought you would like this tank a lot more. It was one of my first tier 9s back in the day when it came after the RU251. I recently rebought it to 3 mark and honestly it is my favourite tier 9 medium after the StandardB. That gun just excuses every possible shortcoming it may have. Out of the holy trinity it has firepower and mobility in abundance. Personally I do not need armor. It is somewhat more stressfull to play since you need to be aware of everything all the time, no room for mistakes. But that is okay, too.
Leo PTA, what a surprise from you Taugrim! I unlocked it before the techtree rework with blueprints, because I wanted to get both Leo PTA and Ru while they were still branched after HWK 12, to avoid going back to tier 6 all the way up through indien panzer. I heard about Indien pz to be a worse Pershing. I didn't manage to make Pershing work (lower tank wn8 than my recent), let alone a worse one. It is why I really enjoyed your video about Pershing. Watched it at least 5 times to learn from it. The HWK 12 btw, is such a pain when enemies have Lynx or EBR 75. Your pathetic potato gun will hardly hit them, while you are a yummy snack for them. They just yololo and left click-right click to do 400-500 damage per shot/clip with HE, as soon as they see you. Hardly going to win any vision game against one of those. I ended up rage selling it and unlocked Ru with blueprints too. Nice video as always Taugrim. 1st battle, personally I never go to center in the out way from south spawn because there is no hard cover. The houses there are destructable so cannot rely on this. I didn't know about the bush you were using. Nice location to balance out the big rock on the north part, definitly will try it later. But if enemy had more forces with Skorp & Indien Pz or had they pushed up, the retreat would be a long way in the open. It really limits the potential of this location for the southern spawn. 2nd battle Glacier, I would not stay in E6/F5 if I notice our team have not control over the K/0 hill or the carrier hill. Really happy that it worked out for you. Speaking of the southern hill, I would go there with an Obj 430 for example, expecting to shoot at enemies in the center. But in a tank with usable gun depressin, I would definitly go center. Funny fact : 11:50 I was expecting you to get shot by that E4 earlier camping in the map corner. I then realized he vanished during your skipped part of the video ;) Congrats for your Ace tanker! I haven't got mine yet after 152 battles. I averaged 2458,57 wn8 and 54,61% in it, making it one of my better performing tanks.
My favorite tier 9 medium tanks are the standard B, amx 30, leopard pta, skoda t50 and udes 16 in that order. Each tank has it's strengths and weaknesses and are fun to play.
It mostly has to do with volume of content produced. Since the COVID-19 pandemic I've been producing 4-5 videos a month. That's what is needed to grow.
I watched this, then went to play. First battle I got Empire's Border with a spawn on the south side. I thought, "wow! I'll try the same strategy!" I got out spotted from where you spotted and shot the Skorp and was dead within 30 seconds of the start. Short replay available!
@@taugrim With a med or light I usually go to C8 and try to catch slow movers heading to the B0 hill. Usually get a couple shots off before bonking out.
Had an amazing win rate with Leo PTA but now with Leo 1 it took a lot of games getting used to. Especially with EBRs running around. You really have to play the vision game well and it only works if you have a pimped out tank with a skilled crew. You cannot let them catch you out in the open. And winning does depend on your team a lot more. But if you can keep a bush and some hard cover between you and tanks at around 445m, Leo 1 is awesome fun.
I really enjoy playing tier 9 meds in this game. Even though the PT A shouldn’t have been good compared to its medium counterparts, I found that I had the highest dmg per game in this tank. I think because I knew the tank had glass armour that I was extra careful and did not rely on anything but good positioning and my gun. With other tanks I get too ballsy and aggressive. So I surprisingly enjoyed this as a sniper/ support tank. Also thanks for the vid!
I've been pleasantly surprised by how player players, including you, have reported good results with this tank. My concern about the tank is it is SUPER punishing of mistakes, but that does tend to force one to think carefully before making a potentially stupid decision 🤣
Personally I love the PTA. The Standard B is my fav t9, but the PTA is my 2nd fav. It basically plays the same as a Standard B in single shot mode, but you have better alpha, accuracy, gun handling, & insane shell velocity. The combo of gun, mobility, & gun depression just clicks with my playstyle and does a lot to circumvent the tank's glass cannon nature... same as how the Standard B's clip & mobility negates its lack of armor.
Nice. I love this tank. I played through it to get the Leopard 1, but my Leopard 1 sits gathering dust because the PTA feels so much better at its tier.
Great video thanks. I like playing the PTA because of the good gun, but its quite hard to play really well. I also have the Leopard 1 which on reflection was a waste of time because of the reason you mentioned in playing. The British 7/1 is still a better tank even taking the larger profile into consideration and the extra gun depression is a bonus.
do it. i did it when they were first introduced and the leopard 1 was completely useless. after the buffs the pta i the best t9 medium imo and the leopard 1 is my favourite t10 medium tank. these guns are so much fun to use.
The pta is basically the only redeeming tank in the line apart from the luchs now that the line was reworked. As Taugrim said in the video the Leo 1 is only slightly better and is a whole tier higher, and the tier 6, 7 and 8 are all uncompetitive and mediocre at best.
@@taugrim The Leopard 1 was my first tier 10 back in the days. As a Dane I had to have it as it was the main battletank here when I was in the army many years ago. I have the worst winrate in it as i really sucked with it, kind of hard to play leo 1 when you dont even understand the double bush mechanics in the game :) But after the buffs and with some more games under my belt I have refound my love for it and the PTA. Keep up the good work I love your videos :)
Claus Rasmussen I treat my Leopards like a scout sniper. Get to an advantageous spot and use the accuracy to my benefit. When it gets too rough use the mobility, if possible, to relocate and reengage.
@@brycesolomon9933 Thx for the advice. I am now playing it like a hybrid scout/TD/Medium depending on map and team. I have just 1 marked the Leo PTA so I am getting better. But it is a hard tank to play and I only play it when I am really focussed and fresh. But when it works it is amazing!
Claus Rasmussen I’m the same way. I play on console and when I get the win streak going it’s great but the moment a game or two is lost I get frustrated and play terrible. Like you said it’s better to play certain vehicles when you’re fresh and not all flustered.
I just bought the amx30. I think it’s superior to the PT A in every way except accuracy. At medium range I pick the PT A apart with my now favourite tank. There is something with french lights and mediums that make them enjoyable. I must extend a thanks to you Taugrim. I have not played wot for 2 years. When I stopped playing my averages where 2000 wn8 and 56% over 1000 battles. Recently I have started playing again and after averaging 600 wn8 and 50% win in my first day’s. I started to watch your videos, they have both been helpful and enjoyable. I am not what I used to be. But I average 53% win and 1500 wn8 and most importantly I make less stupid mistakes. I would like to see how you approach underpowered heavys. I only have 50k exp until I unlock the IS-4. I have problems with st-1 but fear it will be much worse in the IS-4
I like both the amx 30 and leopard pta but the amx does suffer a bit on lack of penetration at longer ranges to some hard targets. The pta seems to pen targets at range much better.
@@nekdo_kavc The turret armor accutaly works. It bounces shoots. I will probaly never play a papper tank again. I bought an AMX CDC years ago, then I completed the 25 first pilot mission. The turret improvement is lovley. cdc has 53% win and I have over 60 with the t25 first pilot. Not eating every shell when you peak over a ridge is worth it in my opinion.
@@chriskerton5771 I have never played the pta but I do enjoy the higher pen on then Centurion 7/1. but I never have problems with 248. Only with tier X tanks with big armour. But 300 heat makes the problem disappear.
Hallo Taugrim - Thanks for covering the Leopard PT A. I really enjoy playing the Leopard I, even though as you mention, it's one of the weakest tier 10 mediums in important ways. I break tanks down into those that are the most fun to play and those that are the strongest tanks. For example, the 430U is arguably the strongest tier 10 medium on the tech tree, but the Leopard I is more fun to play. Though you are forced to play it as a support tank or a sniper. It probably isn't a great tank for a unicum since you need to be able to initiate encounters and I'm guessing it's more difficult to carry, even though I've had 6k damage games (still only got 3rd class). Do you agree that some tanks are more fun to play, even though they're not the strongest contenders? Do you ever take out your KV-2 or Deathstar just to enjoy a game, even though you won't have as much of an impact as if you were in a more competitive tank?
I've never played the KV-2. I do agree with your point that some tanks are enjoyable to play, even if they're not meta or even underpowered. E.g. I love the French light autoloaders.
OMFG I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS TAUGRIM! ❤ Finally a decent Leopard video with in depth analysis. I've been confused on what to get either this or the E50M and I still am torn between both, any ideas on what I should get as my first German Medium?
@@polaristrans Deeeym such a shame I would have loved to grind trough those ramming beasts, say what does make the Leopard 1 an all out better tank than the E50M asides from the speed? I've been hearing a lot of great things about em lately unlike back in the day
I'm about to get the Leo PTA. Based on all the vids I've seen it does seem to be like an M41 90 mm on steroids. Similar power to weight, decent camo (though not great) with good gun handling, but a fairly large profile and no armor.
I also play my Leo PTA and Leo 1 when I have a mission that calls for high damage. The rest of the time I play mid tiers and my ELC EVEN 90 to build up my credits.
You have 2 bullet points which contradict each other: "+Good camo (~30 with BIA + Concealment skills)" and "- Somewhat large profile". Usually a large profile means poor camo, but this is a tiny nitpick. I don't have the tier 9 nor tier 10 leopards, but from facing them the best aspect to me is their top speed and dispersion which means easy flexibility. Even if the armor is not the greatest, a reliable gun and maneuverability can make a tank much more seamless to play.
What you said is generally true: large profile = low camo. That said, there are some tall tanks with great camo (e.g. EBRs). The Leopard PTA is also long, which makes it a bigger target for arties.
I'm very confused as to how there is still all-chat in this glacier match, when glacier was added after all-chat was removed. Your post game stats even says the game was played in April of this year. Aside from that, the video was great.
Correct, all chat was turned on for about a week with 1.9's launch. It was somewhat amusing, but I think given the risk of abuse (e.g. reporting the locations of allies), it's better for the game to have it turned off.
Taug, Nice video as usual. I've heard you comment on map stats before and wonder where you get you info them.. Is it self accumulated or is there a site that compiles it?
Well the funny thing is that banning maps does nothing as it only bans standard battles on that map and not other modes so u still land on ur banned maps
Which works fine with me because I disabled all modes except standard battle. There are enough run-out-and-die players on standard maps, I don't need to see those idiots on assault or encounter.
I mean, there is absolutely no downsides for gold other than cost, Shell velocity 1600m/s, 323mm pen Jesus Here's a fun thing to try, 5 battles with Leo PT A with only gold, then switch to Caliban and it's cool shell velocity of 300m/s xD
I know this is a PC and I'm a console player. But I absolutely LOVE the leopard pta. I bounced a maus off my roof other day lol. I'm still fairly new player and only have 300 battles in the leopard but I'm almost at second mark and just loving the tank in general. Leopard 1 however I don't like at all 😂
In my opinion going straight behind the house(the one that you are hiding at 1:00) on empire's border is too risky even though there are no lights in the match.
Think you can do the E50 and E50M next? I know they where the first tanks in the road to Unicom series. However, after 5years and buffs to other mediums like the PTA, they seem the one of the worst if not the worst medium at there respective tier in the current meta.
I may revisit them. It was interesting to hear SirFoch's recent live review of the E50M - he thinks these tanks are dated because the armor doesn't work as well anymore.
@@taugrim Yeah, to me Foch's review felt like a summary of my frustrations with the tank. As an above average player (1950 WN8), it feels like by the time I was finally able to reach the tank from when i started ( 2016-2018) it was somewhat outdate for its role. Part of it was defiantly needing more game knowledge for T10, but as time went on it just seemed that I could not get it to work consistently. And now tanks like the 430U just seem to be better in every way.
The 430U has obnoxious hull armor, but the accuracy sucks. I wish the E50/E50M's armor was a bit more reliable at tier. The flat turret face is an issue, and the reload is long too.
I only had AMX 30 and I sold it because it's dpm it's just fake. The gun was one of worst med gun's hightier tanks. Dezgamez made a great YT where he tested all tier 9 medium gun's and he confirmed my impression, but check his YT yourself and u'll see
@@taugrimI call fake DPM, tanks which have great DPM on paper, but hit extremely bad. AMX 30 is one of them pls check out dezgamez YT tier 9 medium accuracy. Another example ( Shure total different to AMX) for fake dpm is tier 7 premium td su 122- 40. And if dpm is so important why is T 20 best tier 7 med in most statements. And Taugrim ur far above average ( and my ) skill, imho for average player DPM isn't that important as it is for unicums.
bruh the Leopard 1 is just such a fantastic tank i put even improoved eqipmemt in now it reloads in 7 seconds, has over 520 meter of View Range and an accuracy of under 0.25 i think If you are a good player it will threat you really well with its speed an accuracy it kinda negates the RNG in the game Germanicus_Prime EU
@@taugrim hey thanks for the answer :) ... im telling you you will love this tank... especially cause you are not using Gold Ammo ... i equipped it with improoved, rammer, improoved ventilation, normal optics (improoved wouod only add 10 meters says tanks.gg) and drive with large repair kit (tracking shots often take the ammo rack), small med kit and rations and have a 5 skill crew... very strong players will get their full potential out of this machine
I recently unlocked this tank and tried to earn the modules but I ended up with the most awful win rate and hated playing it with the base gun. There was almost no reward when taking a shot with that puny alpha and you feel defenseless if someone figures out where you are and advances on you. So I spent "free" XP on the gun and am doing better now. However, I get endlessly clicked by angry people when I hide in bushes and use this more like a turreted TD than a medium. Such is WoT.
PTA is simply a padder tank tbh. The tank is outstanding tier for tier vs the leo 1. But then again most tier IX are padder tanks. They are outstandingly more balanced than tier X, and have a better match making than tier X themselves solely for the fact that most of the times, tier VII and tier VIII are wayyyyy undergeared to fight a tier IX vs a tier X playing against tier IX.
Personally I would disagree with the opinion that the Leopard 1 is not worth it. I do have a strong liking for it and manage to do and average of 3500-4000 dmg increasing my wn8, and overall just having lots of fun in it.
As some1 who plays the 430U i can say that sometimes that tank makes me want to sell it... I really cannot stress enough to people how frustrating poor gun handling really is, also all that armor can mean shit on the 430U if you get dumpstered by arty or noone even shoots at you, while if you are really good with map awareness and your positioning at least the leo gun wont make you throw the pc out the window
Yea the gun handling on the 430U is trash for a medium. I picked up the Obj 140 again after the 430U, and I prefer the 140 even though the 430U is more forgiving of mistakes.
tanks.gg/compare/leopard-pt-a?t=leopard-1 The Leopard 1 shaves off just over a second on the reload, and the gun is more accurate and handles better. I may have under-estimated the Leopard 1 slightly.
@@taugrim I think you need to play the tank for some time to get accurate opinion of it, you are selling this tanks short. I think that avrage player will do better in other mediums, but for a good player Leos are a better option.
sold this after unlocking the leopard 1 Standard b is it just for me it a better leopard pta the same size etc. but it has a 3 shot autoreloader but i seem to average both on them 3K damage and 1K assistance when you get yolo'd by a russian tonk in this tank you're basicly fucked and when you have 3 shots in your clip people will not yolo you that fast or if they do they get 1080 clip damage in 6 seconds but stats wise i tend to do the same with both tanks but i rather play the standard b pure because it has a clip and a autoreloader
@@taugrim Thanks for reaction. I am looking forward to 140 review. I was just curious what is your opinion on t-54 guns and which do you prefer. Anyway, keep doing what your are doing, you have by far the greatest WoT content out there!
Grinding this tank is horrible. Stock engine is trash. Stock gun has tier 7 alpha but, you can't even mount a gun rammer until you get the suspension! The top gun is $60K+ exp.. so save up your free exp or dish out the gold!
In fact the one thing in this video i dont understand is that you seem to think armour is in any way relevant ? Coz, it really isn't. Armour in WoT is a joke mate. This thing has good camo, acceptable speed and a Dumb as f*ck amazing gun lol, literally the best thing at tier9
Hello I really like you'r content , showing usefull playgame and more important playing without gold amo, thing's I do because I hate gold . Even I lost I try to find the weak point when I play. Will you do a video on the Leopard 1 ? I have bad time with , I'm really more efficient in the PTA . Any tip's ? Thank's for the work you do :)
And how would you have played Glacier if there was the normal 2-3 arty instead of 0 arty? That's what ruins that map for me - no arty cover outside of the heavy lane.
Great playing with you the other day in my derped T49 (ign: biocrim). Funny thing... you made the comment to the team to control the bridge and I responded: "listen to this man, he knows what he's talking about". When I sent that message I didn't know it was you... lol! Then I looked to see your name and was like, yup, definitely knows what he's talking about. We smashed that team... gg.
Oh cool, glad we won 😄 I can't get the derp gun on the T49 to work for me reliably. The derp giveth and taketh away. I find the 90mm gun with the insane reload and good gun handling to be more consistent.
This tank is disgustingly good ... the damage farm on most maps is so easy it's ridiculous. Yes, you have to play more conservatively but the results you can get are hilarious
I always kind of think of this tank as a slow light tank without the benefit of camo on the move. I think it used to be better, but in the current meta it suffers a little, in my opinion. Definitely a higher skill cap.
The PTA has been for a long time my favourite tier 9er, even before the buffs. It's so rewarding when played right. It has taught me (the reaaally hard way) about patience in this game and, most of all, positioning. However, that dispersion on the move is just hor. ri. ble. It has tested my Zen limits on so many occasions.
Ah OK. In my EBR crews I also have to take firefighting since I need food for the view range. I hate running food and would rather have an auto fire extinguisher to minimize the damage done by fires.
@@taugrim i use premium consumables and gold ammo after I get 2 marks on some tanks. Some tanks I was able to get 3 marks without gold ammo. On PTA, ammo racked so many times, i take 2 repair kits. Like you said, all there is going for this tank is the gun. Once you are ammoracked, there is nothing left. I bounced IS7 once. DO NOT KNOW HOW.
Thank you for doing these videos, your ability to verbalize your thought process sets your tutorials apart from the other WoT RU-vidrs. My best damage game ever is in the Leo 1 (8700 a few months ago) but the Leo 1 and PTA are incredibly punishing of mistakes. I probably have 2 terrible games for 3 decent games. Also, pre-buff I was terrible in the Leo 1 (42% win rate vs 53% overall). I would rank the Leo PTA behind the AMX 30, Cent 7/1 and E50 as far as tier 9 NATO tanks are concerned. Those three can do everything the PTA can do but they also have some armor. I think the Leo 1 is a pretty big upgrade, mostly because I don't think armor is important in tier 10. Every game is nothing but gold spam (at least on NA) and I find that in all my mediums, my best games come from playing patiently and not making myself a target at the right times. The DPM and on-the-move gun handling upgrades in the Leo 1 are significant enough to give that tank the edge to brawl with your saved HP in the late game. I mostly think of the PTA as a turreted TD with the speed to flex around the map.
As I don't play much, and only more now, due to Lockdown, I've had my eye on the Leo onlycuz I used to work on them ;) But I finally got my Leo PT, and I'm liking it. Some say to use it as a support tank - I play more like a TD, as I'm decent at sniping, but until I started watching tutorials, I was a bit of a muppet and got killed a lot lol Leos were fun to drive IRL, and I was the loader/radio op. Funny story - I ended up on the same c/s within 3 yrs - first, as driver, then 2 yrs later as loader, after driving the track Amb 113 ;) I am starting to pick vehicles based on stats, and not history, or from names I had to learn from doing Recce . Thanks for sharing!
