Here you go Lo La, I’ve done my best to translate this video so it’s not perfect but you get the gist of what he’s saying. The bits in brackets are what I’ve added to explain things or add bits that I missed out. Hope you enjoy the video now! :D Hi it’s Loïc Nottet, today we’ll be talking about the track list of my new album Sillygomania, which came out the 29thMay. The first song is Sillygomania. He’s a big fan of films and stories and narratives, so he really like the idea that his albums are like concept albums with an intro and an outro, like he’s telling a story. The second song is On Fire. This song was the first to be released from the new album (excluding Doctor of course), he thinks two years ago, and for him On Fire is the song that reflects his childhood the most - the environment, the atmosphere on the playground. The other children judged him because he danced and didn’t play football much, and that made him feel angry because they didn’t care that he was happy dancing, it was different to what they liked and they called him crazy. The song says that it doesn’t matter if you fall on the ground, it’s not that bad and you should just live the beautiful life and be strong, you can live again. It’s due to the fact that the song reflects his childhood that the music video is (I’m not sure what this word means, I think it’s something like patchy, homemade) like paper maché, with puppets because that’s what you do as a child. The third song is Heartbreaker. It’s a piece that is a lot more funky, a song that you can dance to. It’s not at all the style that he usually sings, and he really likes it - especially the background scenes in the music video. There is really something in the song that he can work with well as he’s a big fan of the 70s and 80s music. The song has disco and 80s vibes which he finds quite fun, and when he finished composing he liked the result a lot, so he decided to share it with you. If he had to choose the persona this song is about, he would choose the charmer without hesitation (this is talking about the four personas he has for this album - the melancholic, the charmer, the clown and the child. He’s made a website about it here, although he’s only done the melancholic so far. It’s in French, but hopefully you can translate the page somehow: www.loicnottet.com) The fourth song you see on the album is Rosa Maria, which is an urban sounding piece with a Latin American tone. He really wanted to have an exotic touch to the album, like a touch of sun really, something a bit tropical, because it’s completely different to what he did on his first album, Selfocracy. He realised while he was composing Sillygomania that his two albums are like the ying and yang (complete opposites). So this new album has light and sun in it, and this Latino touch allowed you to feel the warm atmosphere of the album, while in Selfocracy it was a little colder. Next you have Liar, which is a song he really likes. (I think he says here that it has the same kind of vibe as On Fire, but I’m not sure) It’s similar to the style of Imagine Dragons with a big, explosive chorus that provides a good rhythm. It’s a pop song, quite simply. 29 is in 6th position on the album. So it’s a song about the end of a relationship that he left on the 29th October a bit more than two years ago now. It was quite a painful breakup for him, the end of a story that helped/showed him a lot. But while we often see the negative sides of a breakup, it can allow the people to grow in the end. He composed the song on the evening of the breakup on 29th October (2017). The 7th song you have The One, a bit more of an urban pop sounding piece. He wanted to have an electric guitar in it to give the song that urban feel because he really likes the instrument - he used it in Poison from his previous album. It makes the song sound a little darker. In 8th place you have Doctor, which is a song he released two and a half years ago for Halloween. He wanted to put it on the album as he likes it a lot and the fans did too, and he didn’t like that the song was all alone (I think he means that he wanted it to belong to an album, not just a lone single). The album is varied and diverse, so he thought Doctor had a place there. 9th you have Gun. It’s a ballad, a bit more jazzy with lots of vocals. The song says it doesn’t matter what you do, I will be here; you can shoot me, you can hurt me but I’ll still really want you. He lets go of his pride and as a result the song is very very lyrically rich. It allows the album to take a breath and calm down a bit. In 10th position is TWYM (stands for The Way You Move). This is a lot more funky, which is the type of songs he listened to during the composition of the album. When he heard them, he wanted something like that on the album, something with saxophones, brass instruments, a funk piece - he wanted that. He also wanted to surprise the fans by making something other than love songs, different even from dance, to show that he can leave his comfort zone. He thinks it was a good choice which will be quite unexpected for fans who’ve been here since Million Eyes. The 11th song you have Cry Out, a ballad that he personally loves. It was the very first song he composed for this album so it’s quite old, three years old, but it’s a song which still touches him emotionally today, from the melody and the lyrics. It’s quite a vocal song too. It’s all that he likes in a ballad: when it sings, it speaks, it teaches. 12th you have Candy, a single that he released for Halloween last year form the short film he made that he invites you to see - it’s on RU-vid. He wanted to make a short film for a very long time for Halloween because he’s an enormous fan of Halloween, maybe a bit from the film Hocus Pocus that fans of Disney will know. It’s a bit colourful, a bit terrifying but without being too much. The monsters are quite nice so it’s not too intense, it’s quite lighthearted. He like the image of sweets, and he’s a big fan of the Grimm Brothers (who wrote lots of fairy tales, including Hansel and Gretel) so he wanted to honour them in this project. He already created the story for Doctor. So if you haven’t seen Candy go and look, it’s a short film that he loved making, about 25 minutes long, and that’s why it’s on the album. In 13th place there is Farewell, the outro. He doesn’t want to tell you what to think about it and he prefers that you have your own opinion on the message he gives, but he will say that he’s a big fan of film music like Hans Zimmer (he lists two more composers but I didn’t catch who they were). For him, that’s why his songs are more cinematographic - it’s a way to share with you this love that he has for soundtracks of films. In 14th place you have Mr/Mme. It’s a French song that he filmed the music video for in Brussels, three or four weeks before lockdown. It wasn’t going to be a song at first, it was just a piece of writing (he’s said in other interviews that he was just writing out his feelings like a stream of consciousness, that’s why it’s in French because that’s his most natural language being his mother tongue, and then he realized it kind of had rhythm so he made it int a song). Then it became a song and he decided to share it with us, and people like it which means a lot to him. It’s for that reason that he makes music, to share emotions and feelings which are a bit like lessons that he wants to understand. He repeats them over and over to become a better person in daily life. He thinks that’s all, thanks to MTV for taking the time to speak about his second album. He sends lots of kisses (he always says this at the end of his videos - plein plein bisous in French), take care of yourselves and he hopes it won’t be too long before you can see him in concerts again.
