February 21, 2017. It was already thirteen years ago that singer Les Gray passed away in Portugal. Les will always be remembered.
There was no second person in popular music like Les Gray. He was one of a kind. His way of singing, acting, performing, entertaining. A humble person, a joker. Once in the audience he rocked the boat, every time again. Such people are missed because of what they were as a person. They are missed also because of the leak on succession. There is no second Les Gray. There’s only one. The only one.
This interview was made at Belgium ‘Kiezelfeesten’ in the city of Dilsen. At that time Les had a broken leg, yet he came to sing and not in a shy way! It was also the period when Les started suffering from throat cancer, it could not keep him from stage.
About a year after the interview Les passed away from a heart attack. As people said: he wanted to stay and sing, his body could not afford a comeback anymore.

Op 21 februari 2004 overleed (Thomas) Les(ley) Gray, hij was toen 57 jaar.
Dertien jaar geleden, het zou een perfect herdenkingsmoment geweest zijn voor de ludieke ster van de glamrockband Mud.
De groep stopte in 1977 en Les verhuisde naar Portugal. Vanaf de jaren 90 trad hij regelmatig weer op als Mud, echter met andere bandleden.
De groep was vaak in ons land. Ik had het genoegen hen regelmatig te ontmoeten. Dat was altijd prettig, Les hield van grappen.
Bijgevoegd is een interview met Les Gray uit 2002, opgenomen tijdens de Kiezelfeesten in Dilsen. Het eerste deel is het interview, op het eind staan wat voice-overs en een stationcall. Helemaal achteraan een telefonische reclame voor een feest bij Meubelen Heylen, dit is uitgezonden toen op radio Donna. Geniet ervan!
