TCU fan here and I'm rooting for Kansas and Coach Miles! I think they've potentially got a fourth win coming this season and they'll be bowl eligible within two years tops. :)
Kansas Jayhawks through and through...but during time I lived in Atlanta I became a Tennessee fan.....and just ordered the U T tee shirt! But always....Rock Chalk Jayhawks.....KU!
If you were on campus, you would notice the turn around. I don't expect Kansas to be great this season but there's definitely a future. He's upgraded multiple facilities and has pushed for funding when past years it has been shuttled to basketball. So we shall see!
Michael Ponce good for Kansas. I’m a Colorado fan but I’m happy to see Kansas make an effort to get better, and I always liked Les Miles, he was a CU assistant in the heyday of CU football. Hope Kansas can be a respectable program again.
Yeah, I remember when they were undefeated until they finally played a team with a pulse and Mizzou crushed their dreams. I also remember when their basketball team was bullying their football team, throwing them down flights of stairs and what-not xD
I remember reading about Kansas State FB before Bill Snyder took over in 1990..they had lost 36 straight games and had the lowest winning % of all time..they were an absolute disaster..by year 3 under Snyder they won 9 games..they could have played for the NC in 1997 and 2003 had it not been for 2 late season losses..if youve never been to Manhattan KS, let me tell you..there is nothing much out there and im sure it was worse back in the 1990 s..yet somehow Snyder made it work...another example is Doug Pederson at Boise State..he turned then around..imagine trying to recruit a kid to go to Boise Idaho for school LOL
Nah....I’m a Kansas native and it wasn’t worse in the 90’s it’s just always been that way and will continue.....we are farming country and wide open spaces! Boring country but darn nice people!
I have no dog in this race, I'm a Notre Dame alum....but I like underdogs. Get 'em, Hatter!!!!! Parity is a GOOD thing in CFB. I wish he and the Jayhawk faithful all the best. But that IS a TOUGH GIG. Irish fans know Weis was a dud....sorry about that.
@@jacksonflowers2498 yes. In fact at one point KU was paying four head coaches at once - Mangino, Gill, Weis, and Beaty. It would be hard to come up with an organization, public or private, that has been mismanaged worse than KU football in the last decade. The federal government, maybe.
For several years ND was paying Charlie Weis more to do nothing than they were paying Brian Kelly to coach. At one point he was getting paid to NOT coach by both ND and Kansas at the same time.
Bro he will be.. Hell just bring his coaching staff over to Kansas and persuade new recruits to Kansas and pitch them some good stuff... Alabama will go down... It's the coaches and the staff they have that makes a program great not the program itself... The coaching and staff make the program
Saban would do it easily at this point in his career because of all the national championships he's won at Alabama recently. But if we're talking about the young Nick Saban at MSU in the 90's it would be a hard job for him.
@@ibleedblue0518 have to disagree with you on that one...Saban can recruit like he does at Bama because he can sell the Bama brand..he can sell the tradition and all the NFL players the program had produced..KU has no FB brand name...Saban would make KU much better..but he and his staff wouldnt turn KU into Bama..and I say this as a KU fan..but I do agree what coaching, even at top schools, is vital..just look at FSU..out side the Winsten teams they relaly havent had the same level of success they had with Bowden
People talking like Kansas has never been any good at football. They went 12-1 in 2007. You can win there, it's just really hard. This reminds me of Dino Babers taking the Syracuse job. Granted, they weren't as bad as Kansas immediately prior to him taking the job, but they weren't good. People told him not to take the job, because you "can't win there." He said "Why can't you win there? They've won there before." Now they're coming off a 10-3 season, and ranked in the preseason top 25. I think it's going to take Les Miles 2-3 years to turn Kansas around, but he will make them a winning team again.
I watched this over the weekend and I'll be honest, my opinion of Les has changed for the better. This guy seems to be 100% genuine and truly believes in developing players on and off the field.
If Kansas gives him time, MIles will build up a program there. But look at Mark Stoops at Kentucky. It took six years to get to a New Years Six bowl and win it. First three years were losing seasons. Don't give up if Miles doesn't have a ranked team in two or three years. Give him TIME!
Les Miles is such a good man. It’s a shame that he wasn’t willing to relinquish control of the offense at LSU and move to the spread. He could have won multiple championships with the talent that he had at LSU. I’m rooting for him at Kansas though. He did sustain a level of success at LSU that Nick Saban brought back. He also hired a coach O and Dave Aranda, which ultimately led to a 2019 championship. Geaux Les!
Went to every home KU football game in his first season and WOW what a difference! I know 3-9 seems like an embarrassment but they could’ve easily been 7-5! Coastal Carolina, West Virginia, Texas, Iowa State, they competed till the last play in every one of those games! Night and day for this team. Folks here in Lawrence are super excited for his second season. Rock Chalk!!
Nothing but best wishes for Kansas Jayhawks and Les Miles. Looking forward to a new rivalry to be lit between Oklahoma and the Jayhawks very soon. Boomer Sooner!! Go big 12!!
For years I've wanted somebody big to take over Kansas and make them a competitive football team again. I remember when Nick Saban's contract was near expiring and there was talk about if he'd stay with Alabama, go take the Texas job, or retire. And then there was a quote from Nick Saban (not sure if leaked email or whatnot) about how there was a certain kind of pressure at Alabama with the underlying tone of going undefeated each year and he was weighing his options. I was so hoping he'd leave Alabama and start with Kansas. Les Miles is a good second choice. Kansas already has an astounding three wins, including one over a Big 12 team! Mark my words, they'll be bowl eligible by 2021. :) Also, his daughter is a beauty.
I'm a Mizzou guy and was raised in KC.. I'm happy for Kansas to finally get a coach to turn that program around.. Hats off to the Mad Hatter.. Can't wait to bet on KU as underdogs throughout the next few years.
I hope they don't win another game in the existence of their program until they are finally forced to disband their football team altogether and join the AAC.
@@MizzouAntler they won't join the AAC you moron they're a Basketball Powerhouse SMH 😂 That's like asking UNC to go to FCS D-1AA because their Football program in the last two decades has been mediocre but yet they have the return of Mack Brown and upset South Carolina and Miami.. Don't hate the process Les Miles has going on in KU.. He'll get the right pieces in there soon enough I trust KU can compete with Texas and OU 3-4 years from now
Coach Miles will always have a place in Louisiana!! A KU loss to Sun Belt, Coastal Carolina in Week 2 shows how tough a gig like KU is. They just have to win 6 games and there’s a billion Bowl games out there now. They’ll make one soon. If not this year, next year for sure.
I felt Texas or Tech should have went after coach miles when they fired strong and Kingsbury. He’s a proven recruiter at two major universities and he’s won a National championship. Tech could have done way worse by not getting him.
as a fellow KU fan, please dont embarrass us..KU wont be threatening OU for its BIG12 titles anytime soon in FB..we need to focus on getting to 6 wins and a bowl before anything else..hell, ill take finally winning a road conference game for the 1st time in nearly a decade
He was coaching at LSU, where they expect you to win the national championship every year. Now he's somewhere they'd put up a statue of you if you win more than you lose. I think they didn't look at it from his perspective when they asked him about the job being hard. Kansas is tough, but he's a coach with credibility and that helps in recruiting right off. I remember when Mississippi State went out and got Jackie Sherrill after being awful for years. He was able to get better talent in there, and as long as he was there, they were good.
I'm back after it! People can say what they want about it being close, playcalling. All that matters to me is that this was so similar to last year...until they showed how much they wanted it at the end. Change the culture
People forget that Nick Saban lost to some bad teams in his first year or two at Alabama. Give Les time to build the program. Les can recruit with the best of them.
If Coach Miles can pull in the talent he was able to pull while with us and motivate the talent he has already on campus, he can probably get Kansas bowl eligible in 2-3 seasons.
Love me some mad hatter good guy good coach and even though hes in the big 12 with my team I hope he finds success there and rebuilds the football program for one last big thing on the resume
North Carolina and Kansas are 2 basketball programs that could explode in football with right coach...Miles and Brown will bring stability to the teams but not sure if they can get them in the BCS playoff system..
People talk about Kansas as though it was the worst NCAA program in history. ONE of my facets of inspiration is located about 70 miles to the west of Lawrence to what SI once deemed as futility U. A program that OFFICIALS were strongly considering suspending there football program as Big 8 officials contemplated removing the school from the conference who lost a total of consecutive 27 games. Of course I'm talking about ksu, and we all (who were alive then) remember what happened when an offensive coordinator wizard from Iowa was hired as the last chance for the program - Bill Snyder
@@johnbarkley7043 the basic Snyder concept still stands..if KSU can build its program up then so can KU...Miles doesnt need to have KU winning 9-10 games year in order to be a success
I think Miles' track record will buy him more patience..plus I think he knows a lot more about running a program than previous coaches..but with him already in his mid 60's, one has ot wonder how long he will even want to coach..especially if KU isnt winning games
This guy seemed like an absolute lunatic way back when he was at Okie State. Kansas is for sure a big challenge for him; but I won’t count him out until I see the challenge actually overwhelm him. He’s strange, for sure... but he does know how to get his guys to play the underdog role well.
One thing Les has to overcome is the perception of Kansas as a basketball school. I live in Kansas and many people here think KU doesn't really care about football.
that is true to a large degree..IMO, the University itself doesnt invest into its FB program..and it shows.....look at UK FB..they were horrible too until they made a commitment to start winning at FB..they got a new/upgraded stadium and a coach who could recruit..
Hopefully that huge donation to the program will wake people up. Remember when we won the Orange Bowl we also won the national championship in B-ball! I
Les miles is far from my favorite coaches but, he can do what no one else has done at Kansas , & that is bring in recruits , Seeing how he has te jayhawks playing this year with someone else’s players , should make ku fas feel great about the future, I would not be surprised to see ku. Becoming a top 3 treat in the big12. In ten next 4 or 5 years Ku only needed a opine and a decent passer to be more of a contender this season pooka Williams USA 2000 yard back if he played for Wisconsin. Kid is scary good runner
He was very confused when he got to Kansas because he thought he had the Arkansas job and he asked is this not RKansas which you know that's how he pronounced Arkansas.
Texas and Oklahoma is tough but Kansas will be tougher after Les Miles get done with them, each player will pull a horse wagon around a track field twice a week n flip a tractor tire up n down the football field 3 times a day.. Man! that's tough.. don't worry guys u will be like LSU
I liked Les Miles at Okie State and LSU; he did a great job. But in a state like Kansas where recruiting is a challenge and the team down the road (K-State) is an established program with a 30-year winning streak against KU; you have very little chance of success. Good luck Loopy Les, this should be at least entertaining.
It is not about the X’s and O’s, it is about the Jarell’s and Joe’s. Gotta have elite players to be elite. We saw what Saban did when he went to the NFL and he didn’t have the best players....✅
Miles doesnt need to get KU to elite status, just to 6 wins and a bowl every year...and you are wrong about the X and O's..recruiting is vital, but you dont need a team full of 5 star kids to be good
carsonc29 I’m not wrong. You can tell kids what spots to be in, but if they don’t have the talent or speed to accomplish it you won’t be successful. That’s why talent must come first.. there is no arguing that. 🤷🏼♂️💯
@@Ryan-jx4vh you are wrong and im right...lots of programs have good teams without the luxury of being loaded with 5 star kids.....yes, perhaps the upper echelon of teams who compete for NC are loaded. but every team in the top 25 isnt loaded with 5 star kids..for christ sake, Boise state had years where they were a top 25 team and going to bowl games..you gonna tell me THEY were loaded with 5 star kids? Kansas state almost played a NC in 1997 and 2003 with a teams built off 3 star kids and JUCO transfers!!! and they are only 2 examples..and comparing Sabans failure in the NFL to his domination of the NCAA is foolish...lots of factors go into a coaches success..Bill B wouldnt be a HOF coach without Brady..does that mean he cant coach and his success is luck? of course not...
@@Ryan-jx4vh are you slow or something? I didnt say a thing of college FB playoffs..Imma say this slow for you...YOU DONT NEED A TEAM FULL OF 5 STARS KIDS TO HAVE A GOOD TEAM OR PLAY FOR A BOWL OR BE RANKED...slow enough for you..my goodness man try to keep up...your standard for good teams in the college FB playoff? so everyone else outside these 4 teams just suck huh? GTFOH
