AMAZING! I Love how she sings the song. Slightly a jazz overtone, not over acting, authentic, and not musical theater or over acting ! She actually is! PERFECT!
I don't get it...it says shes in the london production in 1985, but Frances Rufelle is the Eponine in London 1985 production...I'm getting kinda upset they aren't showing the original people at all...I wanna see Colm, Roger Allam, Frances Rufelle, Michael Ball, Patti LuPone
It does say she's in the London production, but it doesn't say the clip was filmed in 1985. It says the London PRODUCTION OPENED in October, 1985. The actress featured here is Linzi Hately and she played Eponine in the London production for about two years. She was the current Eponine at the time this documentary was shot, which was around '88 or '89.
It's Linzi - I did the show with her and this clip does no justice to the spine chilling performance she gave every night. She was quite astounding, and for my money, she hasn't been bettered.
"[Marius] is Enjolras' best friend." This sorta disturbs me. I know it's in the context of the musical, and they altered it to simplify the plot but still...

ehm...ok, wow! Whoever that is, that's one seriously effective Eponine - and this wasn't even a 'full-on' live stage performance, or her saddest song!! Where's my hankie, I'm bawling again *sniff*
I winced when I heard that line... I don't think I'll ever be fully comfortable with Marius and Enjolras being buddy-buddy in the musical. I get really picky with all these small details, like I get bothered when Enjy isn't blonde or when Eponine is blonde or even when Montparnasse isn't dandy enough and Gueulemer isn't hardy enough.
I saw Les Mis in London two weeks ago, can you believe Enjolras actually drinks in DWM now? And it's not just plain drinking. Grantaire seems to offers him his bottle, Enjy refuses it and drinks from another bottle, looking R straight in the eye. It looked like a massive "screw you Grantaire" to me, which was really disappointing considering that DWM is usually the equivalent of orestes fasting and pylades drunk
Wait, first things first: You went to London to watch Les Mis? LUCKY. Okay, with that settled I shall start on my mini rant: Enjolras? Drinking? I just can't piece those two words together. He's supposed to be pure. And damn, that sucks. In DWM all of the students pretty much know they're all gonna die, so I like to think that Enjy and R put aside their differences and accept each other for once. Like in Orestes Fasting and Pylades Drunk. Which the musical failed to include. Which made me sad.
