Makeda is the queen of sheba...they're just saying how history is lost and how her husband dreamed of her black flawless skin, and makeda lives in them...just to sum it up
I named our family's last child and only daughter Makeda on 1/13/14. Makeda means beautiful queen. Makeda Cooper is our little princess, which one day will be our Black queen. Ashe, ashe!!
I was 8 years old in Ohio singing in prefect French having no idea of what I was saying because of this song! Today I discovered what it meant. THANK YOU! MAKEDA VIT EN MOI!
That's what makes me love Mama I was in South Dallas at the Pan Africanism store I was almost in tears I've never seen nothing like this in a long time since 10 yrs ago Mama you will always be respected
Lashid4u and what even more amazing is that thing about us as black people that connects us all around the world ... Afro Arab here ❤️ showing some love !
@@Rob810Flint Michael Cook , I coped this when it came out because their voices, the flow of the joint and the Music are just entrancing . . . . SO I did a translation and it started talking about a lake, then I did another translation today ( how many years later ) and I saw it was about remembering the Queen of Sheba and her influence on today's culture. Still think this song is magic, I have to see if the producer of this has other quality content
These sisters are proof that music is a universal language because before I even knew what they were saying....I could feel it. Since then I have translated all of their songs and it still gives off the same feelings....amazing !
When I miss New Orleans before Katrina, I watch this video. I miss it so much, and this beautiful video has archived the love and community that was organically there. This is one of my favorite songs, I played it when I was having my first child.
Summer of 1999. I was 13 in Houston, TX. This Southern Latino kid that loved neo soul. This was on the radio ONE time and stuck with me. I didnt find the song until i was 30. Absolutely loved it
Makeda They want to make us believe lost myths The passages of history falsified and revised From Ramses to Mandela, the truths that were killed In ignoring the start, they wander aimlessly Makeda was queen, beautiful and powerful Solomon dreamed of her black skin I sing to revive the memories To dig up the knowledge That the spiral of time erases The queen of Sheba lives in me Makeda lives in me. Revive our memories We must change history It's going adrift Adrift in words... no The knowledge and the wisdom are to be carried in our hands Listen and observe Makeda was queen, beautiful and powerful Solomon dreamed of her black skin I sing to revive the memories To dig up the knowledge That the spiral of time erases The queen of Sheba lives in me Makeda lives in me. My people dance and sing They exalt their joy Far from ignorance They show their faith Rich in men and in value We make up for the mistakes Sons and daughters you and me Ready for battle Makeda was queen, beautiful and powerful Solomon dreamed of her black skin I sing to revive the memories To dig up the knowledge That the spiral of time erases The queen of Sheba lives in me Makeda lives in me.
I Remember when i travelled to Lille France for my Masters, This song was literally the sound track for my stay there. It brings back so many memories, The culture, the French air, people and weather. Lord Take me back!!
This song is like 22 years old i actually had the cassette tape and i didn't understand a word they were saying but it took me 3 days to learn this song and i now understand the meaning. My son seems to think i don't understand it at all but i do and i blast it every chance i get
This song came out when I was still in grammar school (I'm 20 now) I remember my dad playing it in the car while driving me to school. I think this is the FIRST song I ever learned how to sing in a foreign language ^_^ At 6 or 7 I didn't understand the meaning of what they were saying, but I could sing the lyrics in French from start to finish. J'adore Les Nubiennes
me and my brother used to like this song in our gangsta rap yrs but since im off hiphop i go back to that classic 90s like this... still dont know french but now in 2014 after dealing wit Brazilians learning Portguese im understanding the lyrics a lil better than in 99... Israel be jamming,, selah
My people dance and sing They express their joy Far from ignorance They show their faith Blessed with men and values We repair the errors Sons and daughters you and me Ready for the fight Makeda was queen, beautiful and powerful Solomon dreamed of her black skin I sing to revive the memories To exhume knowledge That the spiral of time erases The Queen of Sheba lives in me Makeda lives in me. I hope that helps with the translation all. It is a beautiful song indeed.
I remember being a little girl 1st hearing this song and being so enchanted and spiritually moved and even to this day I still am. This song just takes me away.
I haven't heard this record in years. The beat will play in my head from time to time. I obviously _cain't_ understand what they're saying, but hey...it's all good. Good music is good music, period. Nice hearing this hidden gem again. They had pretty and pleasant voices.
Damn I was young when this came out used to watch it on the box didn't understand what they were saying but the song made me feel good and New Orleans was popping back then
I play this track during my neo Soul sets. People have no idea of what theyre singing but some have heard it enough that they sing along to it. The song as a whole is a masterpiece and personally I love it. I just wish they released more music stateside like this. Respect to these Nubian Goddesses
OMG!! Now checking out their song Afrodance and I saw they have a song with my name!!! I was named after the Queen of Sheba, this is my first time listening to their music, it's so soothing and yet the beat draws me in even more... I am now permanently hooked on Les Nubians... They ROCK!!!!
SO POWERFUL WHETHER U KNOW THE TRANSLATION OR NOT.. IT PERMEATES THE SOUL.. MAKEDA! THANKS YOU MY BEAUTIFUL SISTERS. 17 YEARS LATER STILL BUMPIN' , STILL HEALING!
I so love this song! I remember when it first came out I was maybe 13 or 14 and was taking french in school. I used to try to understand what they were singing about. Still a lovely song after all this time!
The song is dedicated to the The Queen of Sheba (study Egyptian and Ethiopian history) In the song they are basically saying how she was a queen beautiful and strong (Makeda etait reine, belle et puissante). They saying how her essence lives within them despite how some have tried to bury those truths and make us believes they are just lost myths. They singing this song to bring knowledge and awareness to people about our REAL history.
They shot that video down in New Orleans, my hometown....Miss that place a lot, after Katrina, it will never be the same! Les Nubians epitomize real soul stirring music, with a few other artists who luv to sing and keep the craft real and genuine.....
bliss, this music transcends to a better place, and the depth of its lyrics.. sigh... this is what black music is meant to be, educative music with a soul.
les sœurs Camerounaises, elles sont du Nord Cameroun, je les avais rencontré pour la première fois justement à Douala (rencontrer c'est trop dire😅😅) aperçu à l'aéroport en 1997. Elles sont vraiment très chaleureuses.
What a talented set of women. They make wonderful music and it is rare that a song could be so enjoyable even though you do not know what they are saying. Lovely women and they produce great music
An imaginative thought; this would make a great theme song for either a crime drama or a spy thriller set in either Montreal,Quebec,Canada or Paris,France. If anyone out there either aspiring to be a film director or currently in film school somehwere in the world,if you could, make this happen please so,in the not-to-distant future, i can see this movie with this song in it with popcorn in my hand
