hi everyone! it's been a year since i posted this and it's now at 50k views which is just crazy to me???? thank u for watching and reading lesbian books :) ps i talk about sapphic (wlw) books all the time so if u want more recs like these then subscribe!
Girl I’m right there with you!! But don’t forget about the most versatile card for books-the library card😂😂 Usually if I read a book twice, that’s my cue to purchase a hard copy AND the kindle version because I love it that much. Happy Reading🌈💗✨
@@galaxylucia1898 Just came here to say that. Found all but *one book ("Last Night at the Telegraph Club") through my library services - including their eBooks!
@@someoldytaccount Omg! Yes, I love the Libby app! I purchased Telegraph Club because I know I’ll be reading that more than once. Also, I want to do a comparison reading of that book, “The Price of Salt” -aka Carol-by Patricia Highsmith, and “Passing” by Nella Larsen which gives me f/f vibes. Did you finish Telegraph Club yet, or any of the other books?
i agree with what you said. i dont like when people say 'queer' or omit the word when they're talking about a lesbian. lesbianism isn't a bad thing and being a lesbian is a blessing!!
1. Being a lesbian is not always a blessing. 2. Queer is a more general term which tends to be more used in books if they have more than one LGBT relationship.
1. what do you mean by that? that being a lesbian isn't always a blessing? 2. that's not what's being discussed. we're talking about the words queer or sapphic being used to refer to lesbian specific experiences or books that feature lesbians specifically rather than the word lesbian due to people's internalised lesbophobia / seeing lesbian as a dirty word
@@sapphoslibrary Ah woah that's insane that one word would be more hated than another. For my first point, being lesbian is not a blessing if you live in a country where you are discriminated for it. For example, it would affect my income if some people knew.
@@selinapoochie queer was a slur not to long ago, a lot of people aren’t comfortable using it especially older lesbians who had it used as a slur to them ♡ so at least i, just use the word lesbian or homosexual:)
"The Falling in Love Montage" was absolutely wholesome! I truly loved that it did not have the popular trope of the "forbidden love," which is so prominent in queer media and books. It was a breath of fresh air.
i think my biggest hesitation to use "lesbian" when tagging a wlw couples, is because i know so many sapphic people can identify anywhere under the rainbow and i wouldn't like to discredit their identity. but, i agree to wanting people to take away the stigma from the word when it comes to lesbian couples. thank you for your take.
100%!! i always use sapphic to describe wlw couples so as not to invalidate anyone! but it's nice to have lesbian used to describe a character's identity because it doesn't get used often enough in YA!!
a lot of people that are lesbian don't identify as women or have a complicated relationship with femininity so, if you wanna be more inclusive i think sapphic is a better term for inclusivity, personally !
lesbian just describes the relationship as a same sex relationship between women tho, doesn't mean it's not a lesbian and bi woman or two bi women, etc
Thanks for the list. I like wlw books, but sometime, as a lesbian, it’s fun when both women are lesbians instead of bi, pan, etc! Happy lesbian visibility day btw ☺️
i relate so much to the conversation at the beginning lol. one of the biggest difficulties i had coming out (both to the people around me and myself i guess) was how much of a bad relationship i had with the word lesbian and all the connotations it seemed to carry with it. having the internet and being able to see so many actual lesbians (not ones portrayed in straight media) being prideful and happy especially on days like lesbian visibility day was and is so important for me being comfortable with being a lesbian. thank you for making the kind of content you do!!💕
i completely relate to this!! i honestly hate to think where I'd be in my relationship with my sexuality and coming out without all the lesbian positivity online and actually good rep! and you're so welcome, i love making this type of content and it's so important to me that it's there for anyone who needs it!!
Laura Dean Keeps Breaking Up With Me helped me realize I myself was in a toxic relationship when I noticed similarities between the way Laura Dean was treating Freddie and how my s/o was treating me. I most definitely recommend! Ps, I am okay now Happy lesbian visibility day 3 weeks late to all of my lesbians out there ❤
i agree the conversation at the beginning. growing up, lesbian was treated like a swear, so i always just called myself gay. now with all the positivity on the internet, i'm very confident and proud to call myself a lesbian.
I just buy 5 books, but found that the books copy not complete comparing to original. Anybody tells me the last page statement of each book? 1. The falling in love Montage 368pages > 246 2. I think i love you 320pages > 269 3. Some Girls Do 336pages > 259 4. Not My Problem 368pages > 270 5. Sally Rooney Conversations with Friends - how many pages? Or u can tell me the last page storyline be like. I spend money to buy 5 books, but feel like the book is cut out the story.
in the beggining of the video i was imagining me having a conversarion with you and responding with the word “stigma” about using the lesbian word but i was like “how could i say it in english??” cause speak portuguese and didnt know this word was so similar in english (we say “estigma” here) and THEN U WROTE IT and i fell the conection ahahahah watching you for the first time and already lov u xoxoxox
Happy lesbian visibility day! :) I love wlw books so much (especially in fantasy setting) being a bi woman, its great for me to have these books to read
Omg I definitely needed to see this, bc I'm in the midst of writing my own Sapphic story, (and don't worry I am a lesbian myself) and I need some books as a reference or some good old fashioned inspiration. Thank you sm for this video!! Definitely gonna subscribe for some more good book content💚
I love lesbian romance a lot , and i had buy many books with lesbian themes only at amazon , and i am grateful i find a You Tube Channel like yours that is specialize with and for lesbian books .I had tears in my eyes when i had read some books , because the storys are so romantic and amazing .Greetings from Vienna ,Austria .
The Henna wars is also especially good if you are Irish, familiarity is amazing in books and her in the mini-companies was something I didn't know I needed
My absolute favorite book I've read 7 times is Some girls do. It was the first WLW book I read and it is absolute amazing The falling in love montage is definitely a close second!
A another recommendation is Some Faraway Place by Lauren Shippen. The main character is part of a family with Atypical abilities and up until the beginning of the book the main character believes that she doesn’t have any. After an accident, she realizes that she is Atypical and has to juggle her new ability and the relationship with the girl she met at the hospital. I hope I explained that okay.
ahh so many good recs!! because of the stigma, for a long time i didn't want to call myself a lesbian, but when i finally felt comfortable enough to i can say for certain that there's no other label that fits as well a lesbian does :D
as a fellow lesbian I will binge watch all your videos. I loved this video and have already subscribed lol :) this also really helped me as I was looking for Les books so thank you
I would love to see you do more videos focused on sapphic/lesbian new adult novels! 💓 It's so hard to find them on goodreads, no matter how deep I delve. I need more lesbian representation for 20-somethings like me 😂
So many great books! I'm super excited for the Falling in Love Montage, Last Night at the Telegraph Club, and Honey Girl!! I read Laura Dean and LOVED it! Read it twice last year.
You should read a book I'm in love with I'm in 5th grade and I'm bi the book I think you should read is called "Some Girls Do" this is what the blrb says "Morgan, an elite track athlete, is forced to transfer late in her senior year after it turns out being gay is against her private Catholic school's of conduct. Ruby loves nothing more then tinkering with her baby-blue 1970 Ford Torino, but most weekends she's stuck living out dreams of her mother, a former beauty queen, by competing in local pageants. Morgan and Ruby are drawn to each other, and when they're together, Ruby begins to envision a future for herself she never thought was possible. But while Morgan-out and proud, and determined to have a fresh start- doesn't want to have to keep there budding relationship a secret, Ruby has never told anyone about the feelings she's denied herself for so long I am about to finish it and I think it's a really good book and you should check it out💕 Sorry I typed so much and I probably spelled some things wrong sorry 😞
@@sapphoslibrary omg ty so much for commenting I'm crying rn!!! I'm not doing great right know bc most of my family dose not support excluding my parents so know one in my family knows..I have been made fun for it and people/boys/girls have messed with my feelings. But again I'm so happy you commented this made my day!💞
I love this! I cannot wait for the sequel to A Dark and Hollow Star. Summer of Salt is one I have been wanting to reads for ages. I've heard it's amazing!
Growing up, I always say men as something that was needed. I was pretty religious back then, before I found out about all the brainwashing and fear that my religion used against me, so I was always taught that a man was the only way for me to have interactions with God. I grew up with that dependence, and then after realizing I had an attraction to girls, I came out as bisexual. Still believing that I loved men and they had to be a vital part in my life. I tossed and turned with my “percentage” of bisexuality. Starting from 25% girls & 75% boys, on to 50/50, and then 75% girls & 25% boys. I couldn’t let go of this feeling of needing a man in my life. It wasn’t until I had finally fell out of my previous religion (found out about all the messed up stuff), that my world started to go upside down and views into place. I had such a hard time facing the truth, that I’m a lesbian, and the heteronormativity has such a tough grasp on me. I slowly learned, came to terms with the fact that I had no attraction to men, but still had a hard time labeling myself as lesbian, staying in the safe space that was just calling myself gay. It wasn’t until I found the show The Owl House (my profile pic lol), and finding strength through Amity, that I finally felt ready to call myself a lesbian. It was a hard process, but now I love going around to all my friends that I trust, and coming out as a lesbian to them. It’s been a long journey, but I finally got there, and I’m now more happy then ever before
I agree with you... It says alot, that when I try to google " lesbian literature" or books, or art, or movies, Anything- I am aggressively flooded with bi QUEER wlw sapphic terms and lists ( as you said ambiguous, very much Men inlcusive terms) Wich is a problem for us, who wish to upkeep and protect our culture. I am also writing, and I just cannot find good actual literature for years, because of this. So you are great for pointing this out! We would very much need to organize or create a literature, art community, that discusses and makes our high literature visible. I personally find "lesbian" meaning beautiful and it's offensive that people do everything to erase it
Theres many reasons someone might not use the word lesbian, its taken me so long to accept and be comfortable with being a lesbian. And its because that word has been used as a slur for so long. It cant just be switched off after decades of derogatory use. So i think its wrong to feel uncomfortable that OTHER people are preferring to use other terms. Gay has less stigma these days so does queer, but it was the same feeling using the word gay when it was in the process of being destigmatised. It takes time for hate to melt away. But i do understand what your trying to get across. But other than that i loved your recommendations, quiet a few im interested in now.
Thank you for pointing out how the word "lesbian" sounds to many. I've thought about this a lot because everytime I search for actual lesbian LOVE content (mostly on screen) than most of the time parts of porn pop up and I really think that is a shame. Love the names Ciara picked out for her characters. It might seem as a miner detail to some, but I really like it ♡
thank you so much for this video! the way you gush about your favorite books is just too cute :3 and i have not read any of them, so i have a lot on my list rn, haha
As a pan romantic demisexual with an unfortunate inclination toward biological males, I’ve had such negative and exhausting experiences with men that I have realized I have terrible anxiety surrounding my own sexuality. Specifically regarding stereotype threats and how I am perceived by men, as a female presenting person. In the past year I have only been able to read gay Male/male romance because I can’t stand to read straight dynamics for the most part anymore. I want to be able to read more about women and see myself represented and identify with characters without the threat of misogyny. I think reading female/female will help with that, so thank you for the recommendations.
So many books to add to my TBR 🤭 Honestly it's a crime I still haven't read The falling in love montage but I promise that I'll eventually get to it 😂❤
Unfortunately I see myself with this bad habit of not using the word lesbian, even when I have to talk about myself I noticed that I avoid saying I'm a lesbian and just say that I have a girlfriend instead. Thank you for bringing that up in a kind and informative way!!!
I finished the book "Sing you home" by Jodie Picult and it's awesome usally I don't read books where struggles are involved but this book got my full attention and I read it from the beginning til the end... It's really well written ^^ Topics like sexuality, religion, job, family, music, friendship and life changing cases are in the book with a punch of humour makes it a great choice and worth a try ^^
I know this isn't a book but if you haven't played it the game Haven you get to chose your sexuality so you can play the game as a lesbian couple. They are so cute together ❤️
Thank you!! I’ve been trying to get back into reading, and I believe the video will help me a lot with that. I’m not sure if you’ve already read this book, but it’s called Cinderella is dead. (It is a wlw fantasy novel) Its by far one of my favorite books, and I’d like to know your opinion on it if you have yet to read it! Also, your accent is really nice!
Honestly I can't recommend Plain Bad Heriones and The Miseducation of Cameron Post book (same author) Tipping the Velvet and Rubyfruit Jungle as my top favourite F/F books that aren't focused on falling in love.
Can’t know how I bumped onto this. All in all great content 😊. I also watched those similar from Emposia Book Club and kinda wonder how you guys create these stuff, Emposia Book Club videos also had cool info.
Hi, I'm currently reading not my problem because of your video, and i absolutely love it. I'm so sad that I'm halfway through it cuz it means I'll end it soon. Hopefully, I'll check out the rest of your recommendations. Thanks again
@@sapphoslibrary lol now I know! when I first clicked on your channel i guess it was showing me highlights and this was at the top so I thought this was your most recent but then I realized you have tons more! i’m so happy now lol
Thank you so much for this video. I have only just found your channel and I love it. There are so many books on here that I've not even heard about, a few already on my TBR and only one *disturbingly* that I have already read. I love how many speculative fiction books you included in this. I'm so excited to try some of your recommendations and to watch more of your Videos :-) Neen
honey girl aahh i love that one!!! i am very late but this was such a great video, i'm a lesbian and i want more books i can relate to :) i love how enthusiastic you are about the books, makes me super excited to read more
Happy (belated) Lesbian Visibility Day! I really enjoyed The Henna Wars and Queen of Coin and Whispers and I'm looking forward to picking to A Dark and Hollow Star soon!
i have a few tabs open of like ebay and amazon and other online shopping websites and i'm just like buying all of the books- r.i.p my bank account!! (thx for the recommendations, don't mind me binge-watching all your videos :D)
I just watched this and I am intrigued by many of these books but the one that caught my eye in the background was called''one last stop'' I am not familiar with this anyone know what its about ?
it's a sapphic rom com involving a girl stuck on the subway and another girl determined to help her as they fall in love. it's one of my all time favourites!
@sappho's library I want to by a book but I am not able to find it anywhere can you help me the book name is maskwa stantiya lesbos (москва станция Лесбос) writer Maria Sharapova. Please reply if anyone can help i am comfortable even with pdf form
I also hate when people avoid using the word 'lesbian' to describe lesbians. As an out and proud lesbian, I will clock anyone who calls me 'queer' to my face. The last time someone did that to me is when I was being hatecrimed while out on a walk with my girlfriend. The truth of the matter is that we are in the middle of a backlash against gay and lesbian rights. We're back to being 'the love that dare not speak its name' -- we have to call ourselves "queer" or whatever so people can imagine there's a chance of us experiencing opposite-sex attraction. Because that's the only way it's acceptable to exist. If you can't be straight then you have to at least be bi, because it hurts the feelings of non-homosexual people of the opposite sex when we say we don't want to date them. Sigh. Thanks for the recommendations and reviews, I've added a good few to my TBR, some of which I'd never heard of before.
