I stan both skz and idle and I can tell you the fandom etiquette regarding the missing member is sooo different. While for Skz, as you probably know, we just try to move on as if the group was always destined to be 8 and ignore the other person, Soojin is still very much beloved and missed by every single neverland, even the ones that became fans after her getting out! That's probably because we feel that the circumstances of her departure were horribly unfair, and the members have since made some nods to her and even composed songs that most likely were for her on the album "I Never Die", their first comeback as 5. "Villain Dies" is one of them and a fan favorite, aimed at the people who contributed the most lies to Soojin's witch hunt, it's a GREAT song with mesmerising performances, definitely recommended! Also, side note, "you all liked my last Idle video so I decided to make *a mother* one right away" is so genious :D

Mamamoo and (g)i-dle are my 2 favourite groups. They are so different, it is hard to compare them, other than both groups have openly supported the LGBT+ community, and both groups are filled with strong women. Both groups also have a very wide range of musical styles, and both have been on Queendom and dingo killing voice. ...plus Soyeon and Moonbyul are my two favourite rappers and two of the most credited women in kpop.

It would not surprise any fan if you saw at least part of their 2019 Queendom live show version of 'Lion'. That version actually happened on the show first, as all of the groups involved were challenged to bring a brand new song to that competition. The music video did not happen until shortly after the show was already over. (G)I-DLE's company, Cube Entertainment, saw money signs because 'LION' BLEW UP and went viral; they green-lit a music video before Soyeon even had to ask. (G)I-DLE came away from that show being called the Monster Rookies because they had not been debuted even a year yet by the time they were on that show competing against seasoned veteran groups. They were the youngest group there, so Shuhua, the youngest member of the group was also the youngest person in the entire competition. We also got a video for a song called 'Put It Straight'. That song previously did not have a video, it was just a b-side track until it got performed as part of the show. The video we got afterward was basically a dance practice (using the same audio backing track as what was used on Queendom) but this time everybody was in Halloween costumes. It was FUN! It's a great one for reacting to near Halloween! :)

Really appreciate that you acknowledge the sensitive subject off members leaving. As a stay and neverland (gidle fandom) I really appreciate that. But in my opinion this particular situation is quite different in many ways from skz and it’s not really a sensitive subject between the fandom as most/all of us love soojin and miss her so much. And at least I and everyone I know talk about her so much and love when reactors acknowledge her and the fact she’s not in the resent mvs. This is just my take on it tho. One thing to know about Allergy & Queencard is that (G)I-DLE also released some character shorts videos before Allergy that better flesh out the story & characters that they portray in the two videos. It also shows off the acting chops of the members. Mamamoo (you said their name right) are a great group to get into! They’re also a group whose members each have their own solo releases as well (I feel like you’ll like MoonByul & Hwasa a lot). Starry Night & Egoistic & Gogobebe are prolly my fave tracks of theirs. Hwasa also just released “I Love My Body” which is an absolute bop & anthem. It actually perfectly fits with what you spoke about at the end of this video. Red Velvet, Purple Kiss, Dreamcatcher, Chung Ha, Sunmi, PIXY, AESPA, Le Sserafim, & NewJeans are also all amazing groups (& soloists) to check out! You should also listen to / watch KARD, the one (& I think only) co-ed Kpop group. & if you want to get into more of a girl band (who play their own instruments), check out Rolling Quartz! 💜

But also have pretty cool stories, and even have a trilogy about hate comments and another one about the world, that we need to save it. ✨ Dreamcatcher openly support LGBTQIA+ fans and have 100% gender neutral discography!! They not afraid about nothing. The face of rock in kpop and the queen of covers!

Mamamoo is for sure the next girl group I got obsessed with after Idle, so it makes sense to me to try them next! If you want to cry because of queer rep though, Mamamoo's Moonbyul has a song called Shutdown that to this day makes me happy weep.

I know you said that drama that happened in the past w.r.t. group members are not something you’re interested in covering, but sometimes a little background info can bring a whole new level of appreciation for a particular group or song. In this case, I want to focus on Soyeon and the song, Tomboy. And I hope you’ll read all of this comment, as I want you to imagine the events leading up to her words, “Why are you cranky, boy?” Although, for a while, her voice speaking those words-Soyeon’s opening salvo-would not be heard at many of the live concerts the year Tomboy came out. I’ll cut past most of the details concerning Soojin, but let me summarize the relevant part here: Soojin was likely forced to leave (G)I-DLE after being falsely accused of bullying, even after substantial testimonies countering that claim, gross inconsistencies and outright lies by some of the accusers, and the police’s own investigation showing her to be one of the victims. She admitted to being delinquent in middle school-swearing, drinking, and smoking-but that’s all. Cube then let her go after doing nothing to support her in staying with the group. (G)I-DLE was devastated-torn apart emotionally as well as pragmatically, as in a unit that was now broken beyond repair. For one year, the members of (G)I-DLE went their own ways, pursuing individual projects (or not), while the public slowly lowered their expectations that they would ever see the group return. Soyeon knew that the clock had been set back. As in their initial debut with Latata, Cube seemed unable to appreciate what they were about to lose. But Soyeon once again stepped up her game. This time, she would take on bringing out a new debut song to establish a “new” girl group. That is how she treated the matter. When she approached Cube concerning the budget for (G)I-DLE’s return, she is said to have insisted that Cube double their typical budget for a comeback. She told them that this wasn’t a comeback; it was a group that had been destroyed and must start over, with a ton of baggage to overcome. Cube somehow agreed. The budget was high, but it seems Cube was probably breathing a sigh of relief that their cash cow was about to be rescued from the mess Cube had made in the first place. When Soyeon wrote the song, she was clearly wanting to push certain buttons. Keep in mind that this was when S. Korea was about to elect a new male leader who ran his campaign on bigoted attacks against his female opponent. S. Korean society was also experiencing an increase in sexual crimes and abusive behavior against women, with plenty of incidents happening in the workplace. Soyeon remembered the typical (not) fans’ slander against Soojin, the worst of the (not) fans coming out of the woodwork because they could bully Soojin and at the same time, hurt (G)I-DLE. So Soyeon made a statement in the guise of Tomboy to support Soojin. Cube fought and rejected several attempts by Soyeon to use explicit language that would likely trigger the (not) fans and male bigots everywhere. They rejected her rap lyrics. She rewrote them. They rejected them again. She switched to English lyrics, simplifying the meanings a bit, but Cube still rejected them. Cube had raved about Tomboy, telling her it was so good, they had no problem making it the title song for the new debut. But in the end, they forced Soyeon to self-censor in places where she most expressed her rage and implied caricature of what she meant by “tomboy”. But for all the censoring, Cube never truly saw fit to stop Soyeon’s main message: (my quote, not Soyeon’s) “We are all Soojin. We swear, we drink, and we have sex. Now go f*ck off and die.” Not that Cube even had a clue that Soojin might have factored into Soyeon’s writing for Tomboy. The message was targeted at males-those who were selfish, or abusive, or engaged in systematic punishment of women for being human. Cube didn’t get that maybe Soyeon was speaking to them also. Or to the new president A-hole of S. Korea. Maybe they thought she was only speaking to the (not) fans, the bullies. At the MMA awards, (G)I-DLE sang Tomboy uncensored for the first time at a major event-perhaps the first time live publicly. Many of the audience were shocked to hear them say “I’m a f*ckin’ Tomboy”, or to hear Soyeon say she likes to have sex while drinking whisky. But many were already singing the words. And as the chorus repeated, still more drowned out (G)I-DLE; and if you were in the audience that night, you could only hear the audience screaming “…f*ckin’ Tomboy”. Or just screaming incoherently. Like at a Beatles concert. There are fan videos documenting this. If you had to pick any moment when (G)I-DLE became legends, this is a pretty good one. Many will remember Tomboy as that iconic song with the swearwords. But others who surmise what Soyeon was reacting-to can appreciate it when she accusingly sings her opening salvo, addressing the bad actors of the world: “Why are you cranky, boy?” Unfortunately, nobody attending the live concerts would hear Soyeon sing this line for some time. For a while, every major performance of Tomboy would be drowned out by the audience-pent-up, anxious, waiting . . . until their moment to vent had arrived: “WHY ARE YOU CRANKY, BOY?”

i really recommend checking out the members solos soyeon - 'beam beam' (title track) and a bside off her solo album 'psycho' yuqi - 'bonnie and clyde' miyeon - 'drive' (title track) and my fav bside of her solo album 'rose'

Dreamcatcher and Mamamoo are other groups that lgbtq+ people really enjoy and I believe you'll really enjoy. If you liked Tomboy, you'll probably appreciate Dreamcatcher, even if the rock is slightly different

Yuqi is the muse in Allergy and Queencard, and Soyeon plays the role of someone who wishes she could be beautiful like Yuqi. So much so that she's about to go through cosmetic surgery to look different, but she runs out of it at the last minute because she realises she's perfect just the way she is. That's my interpretation, at least.

Group songs to start with I'd recommend are Hip, Starry Night, Egotistic, and Illella. For solos -- Moonbyul: Shutdown/Eclipse, Wheein: Goodbye/Watercolor, Solar: Spit It Out/Honey, Hwasa: Maria/I'm a B. Most moomoos (fandom name) will say this - Mamamoo is at their best live. If you want a taste of their live vocals I recommend checking out their Killing Voice and Immortal Songs Medley (both of these are youtube reaction safe btw)!
