She was truly beautiful and sang like an angel. When I hear the music today, such as it is called, I am so glad I came of age in the 60s. This kind of innocence and talent cannot be duplicated.
People blame her, but it was NOT her fault at all. Look at how young she was, she has NO SAY AT ALL in the direction of her career. She just tried to do as she was told. THEY (the record company) are to blame for her faded career because THEY (not her) chose the material for her to sing. She had NO record company experience at all, and simply followed instructions. Again, THEY are to blame for her career fade, NOT her
@@GeeBee909 I disagree to a degree. She chose songs with Qincy Jones. She specifically chose "You don't own me". But I think she tried to do too much. Full time college, part time pop singer. She was trying to write her own songs and Quincy moved on to other projects. Add to that, the music scene was changing. Whoever chose "Young Love" made a huge mistake.
I still can't believe she was unable to get better material after her initial success. It was like she couldn't break out of that girl pop singer image. I don't know who ran her career, but they sure sold her short. She was a real talent and deserved a better career than she ended up with. I always wondered why she didn't try Broadway or theatre.
@@pgh45rpms I think you mean Shelby Singleton (Shel Silverstein was the writer who wrote "Boy Named Sue" and "Sylvia's Mother" among others, as well as the children's book "The Giving Tree" and others). Singleton was a Nashville based producer.
