'S Wonderful: The Making of 'An American in Paris' (2008). Leslie Caron describes landing the lead role in An American in Paris (1951) and meeting Gene Kelly for the first time
So lovely, thank you. Leslie Caron couldn't have known that Lester the Pester was a popular comic strip character when Gene was a little boy. Lester was friends with Happy Hooligan.
1:33 I believe that look she gave him right there is what gave him the confidence to pursue her even though she was annoyed by his advances at first. She had a good first impression of him and that was enough.
I always wondered why the makeup department didn't just heave her pretty face alone, and leave her hair alone too. At one point in in Daddy Long Legs she looks like a cross dresser with somebody else's hair on her head. When they stopped torturing Judy Garland in the make up dept. and took all the makeup and wigs off, she looked way prettier. She looked most beautiful in Gigi. Less is more.
I was in awe of Leslie Caron from the first moment I saw her in Gigi and remain so 50 years later. Epitome of grace, talent and beauty. I hold you dear and thank you.
