"New from Traversy Media" is one of the best notifications that I see everyday .. thank you Brad for all your tutos and keep going .. big thanks from Morocco
Thanks a ton for this! Your pacing and real-world demos are perfect. I found it very relatable. Instead of feeling intimidated by this chore I would have to learn, I feel excited to jump in and start using this. No fluff, no lecturing w/out a demonstration. I rarely ever find the need to subscribe to a channel but I have here.
Your free YT courses are even better than any premium classes. it's a great way for someone to have a start-point in a life of web-dev. thank You for a GREAT peace of the highest quality work. You're the Boss! ;)
Brad, I can't thank you enough for your content! I've learned more from you than I am from learning at University. If only I would've stumbled upon your channel sooner! :D God bless you!
You're very welcome. Yeah unfortunately many college courses do not focus on a lot of the technologies you need to know in web dev. Atleast in my opinion. Thank you for watching
Nice intro!! To the point and it got me started. The compiled CSS is what I used to write by hand... why did I ever do that!!!! Only the nesting bit of less is so important! now I do not have to be "copy-paste" so much when styling nested elements. Thanks!
Thanks for this tutorial, I like how you are to the point and move quickly through the main points of the material. Very helpful to learn Less basics in 30 mins!!
Outstanding Brad. Tomorrows lecture is on Less and I will be way ahead. This was very easy to follow and I feel I have a good handle on this thanks to you.
FYI, according to lesscss.org, not using parenthesis in mixin calls is deprecated. Be sure to use the () going forward. (ie, ".bordered" in the h1,h3 {} ruleset at 18:03 should be ".bordered()" )
well .. nicely explained. I would never thought that it is such a simple thing and was using traditional .css way to write stylesheets. I will start using less. Really wonderfull. expecting more videos
wanted to ask if you could possibly do a short video on Parametric Mixins with less, I'm having a bit of a hard time grasping it and you usually explain things in a way that is easy to comprehend. Appreciate in advance.
SCSS/SASS I can auto compile prefix etc. I'm not familiar with LESS at all but I see a plugins option in the npm. How do I add autoprefix? Specifically for this less-watch-compiler.
Hi Brad: I am using the .msi Windows installer... won't this (assuming it finishes with errors) do everything I need to do as far as installing node.js and and the watch compiler too?
hmm, having issues with the lightness function at 25:54 seems the docs mention something completely different.. not sure if this has just been changed since the release of this video but I can't seem to get this function to work : (
This is cool! xD I'm new to web dev (Embedded software programmer here) and I've been working on this medium sized project lately (mainly Angular). This does all the stuff I wished CSS could do xD Very simple and intuitive too! Thank you for the smooth introduction to LESS ;)
You can also try SASS. It's pretty much the same. You just have to use $ instead of @. It's worth to know both, since many frameworks use SASS (for example Bootstrap 3 uses LESS, and Bootstrap 4 uses SASS).
Thank you for the video. That was so useful. But I have question related to real projects. I am a beginner. And I want to know, if the developers transfer to hosting only css file? So if there is need to work at already created project, you should create LESS file from scratch. Is there any easy way to create LESS file for already created css file, which will create variables automatically. Or the developers transfer it with LESS file? TIA
Brad! Thanks again for your videos. I've learned a lot from them. I'm sure you get dumped with request but have you used Marko before? What are your opinion on it?
It is a front end technology it can be used with Node, PHP, Rails, etc. You do not have to use the less compiler from NPM. Look into Winless or Koala if you don't want to use NPM thats ok. You just need a program to compile Less to CSS
Ah yes, the npm/node.js part is what got me confused, I had a feeling it was probably not the case and it can be used with most other languages, thanks for clearing that up. Either way, great tutorial as usual.
When where css variables invented in css ?? And does that mean that i dont need to use LESS or SASS for variables since CSS can do i on its own ? I dont mean to not use LESS or SASS at all im asking specifically for variables
Thanks a lot Brad. Since I have learned a lot from you and you owe me to return. Can you suggest me if I can do something for your channel promotion or your website promotion? or maybe I can help you in something?
For easy reference on the less-watch-compiler.config.json file this is what worked for me: { "allowedExtensions":[".less"], "enableJs": true, "minified": false, "sourceMap": true, "plugins": "plugin1,plugin2", "watchFolder": "less", "outputFolder": "css" }
I want to teach all of the technologies out there. I prefer Sass as well but I have nothing on Less. Some of you guys don't understand that I am not endorsing any tech or saying anything is better or worse. Its a simple tutorial on a web dev tool. That's it. I'm not here to argue with anyone. If it is not something you want to learn then move on to the next thing. It is not too difficult to understand. This tool or the next tool may not be the best or most used but in web dev you run into shit like this so it's good to have some reference.
