Hunting coin rolls is a very cheap way to find cool coins. Buy a box from your local bank (Kennedy Halves are popular for the possible silver) search the rolls. Keep anything you want. Then, return the remainder of the box to the bank. You just got coins for your collection and only paid face value. This year, I bought a few boxes of cents, trying to find the 2023 Extra V variety. I only found 2, but I got them graded. Now those 2 cents that I paid 1 cent apiece for are now valued at $1,500.

The buffalo nickel is my favorite US coin, and distinctly American.

I like that you can buy rather nice capped bust half dollars for less than $200. I mean those are coins that are at or approaching 200 years old. There's lots of fun options below that price point

Hey Ben, Another great video with an offering of gorgeous coins for everyone - we need more of these but your staff goes - here come the calls - which is great - Stephanie handled my purchase flawlessly - you have a fantastic staff!!!! Best Wishes and see you at the show.

Everything is relative, but $200 is not cheap for a coin.

I agree. I stick to stamps and $200 is the high end of my purchases. Still enjoy coins but no longer collect. Nothing but grading and market issues. Sad.

You're right. I stack silver (gold when I can) and i feel like the numismatic coin market is manipulated just like the precious metals market. I think it's all about who you know. There's an upper echelon of collectors/dealers that set the standard. I feel like, if there's a new coin that comes out, like the reverse proof Morgan/Peace for example, and they want to keep that coin(s) from being one of those "highly priced" items, they can do it. I feel the larger Bullion/Coin dealers are in bed with grading companies like NGC/ PCGS etc.., and they manipulate the market. Grey Sheet, Red Book etc.., is just one of their tools. I love coins so much... I still collect them too, though. I buy what i like and what I think is reasonably priced.... what I can afford.

@richardhunter8241 I think he meant a total of $200 a month investment in coins in general. He showed many coins in the $30-90 range. Let’s also be real… most people into rare coins as a hobby have jobs that allow for much more than $200 worth of investment per month, wether it be in 401k or elsewhere

I’m also a long term collector of graded silver dollars and if you are serious about collecting then $200 plus is considered normal on average.

@@Alan1234xstamps are cool but knowing they’ll get destroyed by the acidity of the paper makes me avoid it.

I'd say if you want very nice historical coins for a lower price, just collect german coins. infinite variety in price and appearance. and dont have them graded, that also cuts down on the price

Agreed, lots of real old German states coins that are surprisingly affordable, I've had some time going through many on eBay and have scored on a semi-worn Prussian 1802 thaler with toning for $30!

Thanks for another great video! Wanted to mention that some really nice (and rare!) colonial coins can be had for under $200. My husband is assembling a collection of NJ coppers by die variety -- all under $100. He's up to 46 varieties! Given the rarity, that's pretty incredible...

If you ever decide to do the Florida F.U.N. show, I'd love to meet you, shake your hand, and say thank you for all your shareable wisdom. I'm always amazed, intrigued, and thankful for your willingness to share the hobby with us.

Haha ... I get your point , but if I was waiting tables or delivering food ( or something similar - min. wage ) to get by or to make a living , buying a $200.00 coin to look at would be the last thing I'd be doing , but , that's just me 🤔
@mjanovec
@mjanovec 6 месяцев назад
That was the first thought that came to mind. Chances are, if you’re working minimum wage, your biggest priorities are paying the rent and putting food on the table. Having said that, I suspect Ben probably had in mind a young collector still living at home with their parents, working a job just to earn a little spending money.

Yeah I have to agree, I feel like his intentions were good but even as someone in my 20s with a solid career going for me, $200 collectibles are serious purchases that I have to be okay with selling if I needed to. Personally, I would rather buy cheaper stuff and never have to sell it until I really want to, versus keep my life savings in high end collectibles that it will surely pain me to part with when I need to buy a house and raise a family.

I was a Cowboys fan way back in the sixties - but when then got rid of Tom Landry the way they did - I am no longer a cowgirls fan - I was in a daze for a while when the Packers beat them in the ice bowl. I have seen some interviews with some of those players on RU-vid and one of them was saying that Merideth was hardly audible - I think is was Donovan but my memory is slipping - Best Wishes - going to the show?
