Yes! I was on an 8 year running streak, doing at least a mile for it to count. Unfortunately that came to a stop when I unexpectedly found out I had stage 4 colon cancer - I’d been an athlete my entire life, ate right, but it can happen to anyone. Turned out my diagnosis was genetic (lynch syndrome) and worth testing for if you have had a family member diagnosed. Sorry for the random /PSA I ran while going through chemo and most of treatment, only taking time off after surgeries. Two weeks ago I started my daily running again. It just feels right, and I’m even more grateful for just being able to do this simple activity - a life changing habit if you want it to be.

strongly agree on this I just did my 53km Ultra in Thailand last June 4 and it was brutal. Out of 354 runners who signed up 98 are DNF’s luckily I finished it. The fact that I never ran a full marathon and immediately signed up for an Ultra is not a good idea. But with proper training and dedication plus mindset during the race is the key. Nothing is impossible!

I’ve run a couple marathons and 1 ultra. I’m a firm believer in if you truly want to find out some shit about yourself train and do an endurance race. When everything in you from the neck down is telling you to stop you really find out some shit about yourself. Are mentally strong enough to say fuck that and keep moving forward to the finish line. Pain is temporary. Be a 1%er.

I'm only in my twenties, I also have gotten back into running since stopping in my teens. I keep getting ankle / knee injurys. Right now I can't run and it's so frustrating. Take or leave my advice, as I'm a lot younger than you, but my advice is to do some strength exercises in the legs (squats) and to warm up before running. Basic advice I know, but I wish I did it more over the last few weeks to avoid weaknesses / injuries. All the best and enjoy the running, it's truly a blessing.

Agreed. IT band issues are no joke. I started dedicating two days a week just to traditional strength training, and bought cheap bands to do some floor work with those throughout the week, or after a long run while watching tv or something. Since doing that - no issues. I also treat myself to a sports massage a few days before a marathon or ultra distance, and she focuses on that area. It’s always worth it, my legs feel ready on race day and I’m more confident as a result.

@XxOzzyBoyx
@XxOzzyBoyx 11 месяцев назад
It varies a huge amount based on the specifics of the course you want to run. A lot of the races in my region have significant elevation gains, so it's pretty much guaranteed that I'll be walking 25% of it because it would just be waaay too wasteful in terms of energy to run the steep uphill sections. Also if you've got an area with significant technical (rocky and uneven) terrain you'll likely be walking slightly more because it's just difficult to navigate that at speed. Get a flat 50-100km on a good trail though and it's entirely possible to run the entire thing as long as you've taken plenty of time to understand your pacing strategy. With all that said though, the only competition is yourself and the time cutoff of your particular race. As long as you know how fast you need to be going to finish the event then you can walk as much as you want within that.
@Kelly_Ben
@Kelly_Ben 11 месяцев назад
You'll most likely find the ultra easier to train for and run than the road marathon... and more enjoyable! Not being snide, it's just that trails in general are more laid back in attitude and atmosphere, and taking the emphasis off pace-pace-pace is freeing. If you can do a marathon, you can absolutely do a 50k. Best wishes!

@@BrentlyG_is_the_goat you mean like 100 miles in one run? Even if not that’s so insane wtf

@@Nofrontleverforme I think it's generous to call it a "run" but yes I am doing it all at once.

I wonder if i have ran a marathon, because i would just run for hours exploring my neighborhoods and the mountains in my area. One time a ran at least 4 or 5 hours straight in a loop by my area Intel i collapsed. Or the time i ran from my city all the way to the top of the mountain them ran back down to my house.

I ran a few steps before the beginning of my marathon and a few after the finish so i ran an ultra!

I just ran a half marathon a week ago for the first time... I did it with no practice and the only running experience I had were 5ks i did 2 years ago and a couple recent 1500m races. I finished it in 2:01:10 without much of a problem... then i died the following days bc my calves weren't used to thaat much running...

@jeremy.miller "Tips on how to do it," you say? What tips you got for women with large breasts not to chafe the skin off from under their breasts? I've spent hundreds on different sports bras and found a combo that works but approaching/exceeding 1/2 marathon distance (longest race I've done is 25 km) it always happens. I imagine skin and soft tissue ripping off down to bone if I ever did marathon+ distance.

I run because one day I won't be able to. But today is not that day.

in germany you become an ultra runner if you run 45km in an official race. then you are in the DUV statistic.

Ive decided to take a deep dive into alcoholism, in order to challenge myself. I've worked my way up to a full cask of wine (30 drinks), per night. And hit the gym before continuing to the next cask, each day. Now: im working my way up to a marathon and I feel like I have a certain mental toughness, howeve... I start feeling the need to start dinking around the 12 mile mark. Any pointers? Im not lying, except the 12 mile part. I run at least 8k per day😂
