I've got a box of lesser-known DC keys here, so I thought it would be a great opportunity to share with the community! #underrated #DC #Keys Join this channel to get access to perks: / @minthuntercomics
You're usually on the ball but the elseworld's 80 page giant you displayed is not the recalled original. It's the reprint from 2011. The real one has the older DC bullet logo and isn't prestige format. Big difference in values. 👍
I recently picked up that Chuck Dickson Nightwing #1 for $25. Also picked up an Action Comics 471 for a buck at the spot I buy bulk at. Didn’t even know that 471 was a key, I can’t help but pick up any Superman covers that are cool.
That first jack nimball Toyman is so good. I like how they introduced him as a new Toyman who straight up murders Winslow Scott, instead of just ignoring Winslow Scott’s continuity and rebooting the Toyman character. Pretty edgy for the time.
My favorite underrated DC books are actually minor characters like Captain Atom, Firestar, and Blue Devil. Most of those series have some decent minor keys in them, but can be found in $1 bins periodically.
One of my favorite underrated keys is Doorway to Nightmare #1, the first appearance of Madame Xanadu. I feel like a lot of the mystical characters seem to be gaining popularity and it could have some value in the future
For me, there are industry dictated keys and books that may be a key just to me for one reason or another. I just don't sticker my keys. Only industry dictated keys. Like, anything with Morbius in it is a key. Simply because he's in it.
Nice mix of comics here James. Kyle Baker's story in the Elseworlds Giant is a great example of DC's management panicking over nothing - ironically, Baker won the Best Short Story Eisner Award for the story.
Recently found in a FLCS box for about $35 a nice copy of Justice League of America #43. The 1st appearance of the Royal Flush Gang. Finding cheap silver age goodness like that in the wild is a beautiful thing.
I've been really after Flash keys, a lot are super cheap. Some of my favorites I've collected are first appearance of Heat Wave, Walter West/Dark Flash, Black Flash, Rainbow Raider
Perfect video love the content! I learned a lot especially the Action Comics! I heard that Spawn issues that came out during the Covid epidemic are hard to come buy. Do you know about any Marvel or DC Comics during Covid are hard to get? Thanks again! I keep on hunting for comics that are just a little beyond my reach. Oh oh oh that Batman Superman Else World comic I have never seen!!!!😮
James you basically pulled out my comic book wishlist, I love the bat family and I’m starting to get more into Superman so this was awesome. Keep up the great content!
Ive always wander why adventure comics 462 death of e2 batman that was a key book for me but lovely cover that action 285 when supergirl is revealed to world one of my favourite covers in my collection
I love the rare and under rated DC keys! I was at my local shop and I asked for Flash 181. The guy was like "is that a key?" I was like "not a key anyone cares about but me" - second appearance of the samuroids.
Your DC knowledge is awesome. I know plenty of Marvel and some DC so I always pick up DC history or relevant information based on your experience with DC. Great vids man.
a lot of those books are on my want list, I keep saying now is the time to pick up DC keys. I love how you make lists of the underrated or unknown keys. One of my favorites from you is Detective Comics #599 1st appearance of Henri Ducard.
I think Yara Flor is underrated big time and deserves a bigger spotlight. But that book is really only a couple years old so maybe it's not fair to stick her first appearance in this conversation. Otherwise I submit Saga of the Swamp Thing #49 and #50 for their unofficial 1st cameo and 1st full appearances of Justice League Dark.
Thinking about going back to Legion issues and work on run again...have most Adventure Comics #300 up plus few misc previous, Superboy and first direct Legion issues but none after 1990....always one of my favorite titles as a kid...
Yes me too best runs of the legion after adventure comics 380 was the run in superboy from 195 with the dave cockrum Mike grell runs and later the Keith giffen run
I think a lot of silver/bronze aged Action Comics/Adventure Comics/Superman/Superboy comic keys are underrated and undervalued. Superman keys will have their day again someday.
Batman 457: I may be wrong, but I believe that's not the 1st Tim Drake in Robin suit. I think it's the 1st appearance of the new Robin costume (no more green short-shorts or bright yellow cape).
You are correct. I recently picked up 457 (new costume with the two-toned black/yellow cape) along with 442 (first Tim in classic costume) and 436 (first app. of Tim, himself).
I have that elseworlds.. that one you have is not the original..you can tell by the front.. yours says 100 page and the valuable one is the 80 page..$40 - 60 bucks tops..
