I normally don't use cages with horizontal lines for my hedgehog because I'm afraid that he would start climbing up it and might fall and break his bones but i know you have been using that type of cage for a long time and you have no bad experiences but I'm just too afraid for his safety.

+pig I was confident with those cages for my hedgehogs because I already knew neither of them are climbers :) For other hedgehogs, Critter Nations aren't a great option, or would need modified with coroplast to be suitable. It's all about what's best for the individual hedgehog :)

+William Rosado Some of it, sure! The hides are too small for hedgehogs, you'd have to find ones large enough. And hedgehogs can't have sand. Other than that, it could work :)

William Rosado you can substitute the sand with oats (ik it's weird but hear me out). My hedgie loves to roll around in her litter thing (idk the engkish word), she would digs and roll around like a hamster in a bathing sand. so I did some research and turn out it's pretty common for hedgie to enjoy them but the thing is, it's not quite safe bcos it could get stuckbin their quills or smthng. So I research a lot of materials and someone on hedgehodcentral says that she uses oats for her hedgie and it works so well. I tried it andvmy hedgie loves it too! she would roll around and digs every night 😊

Hello Tori! Just out of curiosity, would you recommend this set up for hedgehogs as well as Tenrecs? Would there be any changes/alterations you would recommend if doing so for a hedgehog cage? Thanks!

I wouldn’t use EcoEarth alone for hedgehogs, it’s quite dusty. I actually switched Finn off of it too because unless it’s moist, it’s very dusty. But there are other soils that would work! Even organic top soil could in theory. Or most wood based beddings (no cedar) would work if you wanted to avoid soils.

It's me Emma valente Some of it! The hides are too small for hedgehogs, and they can't have sand. But you can still do a natural cage for a hedgehog! You just have to make sure everything is big enough.

Katie Hi I think tenrecs are higher maintenance and they are a lot more expensive. I have a hedgehog and she is SO sweet- you won't regret getting a hedgehog! But since I haven't had a tenrec (I want one- they are SO cute!) I wouldn't know which one is better... I would think hedgehogs are more hardy. Hedgehogs are a lot bigger too!

It really depends on your resources and financial capabilities! Tenrecs are relatively new to the pet trade since their natural environment has been encroached on. This means that depending on where you live, vets are very difficult to find. Tenrecs are also incredibly expensive to buy if you are in the United States, and they can be expensive to feed since they live predominantly on feeder insects. However, they are far more social and tame than hedgehogs, and require very little work when it comes to bonding. Their lifespan is also more than double a hedgehogs, so they are a long term commitment. Overall we also know more about hedgehogs, they're easier to find vet care for, they're generally easier to care for and feed, but they typically need to be socialized more by humans because they're fairly skittish prey animals. Whatever you decide, make sure to do loads of research and I wish you the best of luck! :)

Shouldn't Finn have more room to climb? His last setup was very high and allowed him to have lots of space, but this setup seems to be more for a hedgehog.

+Tree Hater I mentioned in the video that I have plans to fill his vertical space, but he wasn't using his loft previously, so it was less of a priority than the bottom half of the cage that he actually uses. He is able to climb the vines along the side of the cage but he has yet to pay much attention to them.
